hated the guest, hated his shirt, hated his psychophantic comments, hated the fake laughter from near the camera and hated the background noise. Apart from that, Gary tried his best and for that reason it didn’t descend into the depths of a 70 point episode.

Shocking

Awesome show Joe…..you may not have Garys web 2.0 knowledge, but you destroyed his wine knowledge.
Augustus has apparently been burying his head in the sand out in LA…..he’s probably the guy in the corner at a party wearning white socks pulled up to his knees with shorts and a tight shirt that says “hi….me assh*le”
get a grip dude…..if you want to show people your insecurity, maybe head to a shrink.

Awesome show!!! One of the great! Joe was a great guest and he should be on more often!

QOTD: Why, for the challenge of expanding my palate, to have great times with family and friends!

QOTD: I love that moment of sniffing, tasting, and sharing wine. I always look forward to the next opportunity to pull out a bottle from the cellar. I always look forward to buying/discovering a new wine. I enjoy introducing family/friends to wines I’ve discovered.

My son wants to borrow Joe’s shirt for Halloween. He wants to look like a “Cool Joe” but with more bling.

Very nice job Joe. You could stand in for GV the next time he is out!

QOTD: I like to drink wine becuase it is an “ever evolving beverage”. Most always interesting and changing before my eyes and PAL.

  • Loved the show, but I do agree with Joe about the Barolo ‘split’. Of course different wines will produce unusual results, outside of the assumption that ‘left is softer’ and ‘right is tougher’ generalism. But the terroir is such that more often than not it is reflected in the wines.

    Ribera del Duero represent!

My buddy has a bodega with D.O. RdD and just to let you know, we’re drinking his 2007 now and it’s good!

I agree – really nice place to visit, really good food. Lamb, roast suckling pig, blood sausage… Not as touristy as La Rioja, so rent a car, book a casa rural and you’ve got an amazing little vacation.

QOTD: to share something I love with the people I love.

Well, aside from the fact that Joe looks like he’s spent a little bit too much time watching the Pickup Artist (ouch, yeh, I can’t really talk being stuck in the 80s, but hey, I haven’t guest starred on WLTV yet!), y’all did a pretty cool thing here.

As much as I like your bargain-finds, under-$13 episodes, it’s pretty cool to see you get into some of the “good” stuff and talk it through. Would love to see some more “high-end” shows.

On that note, GV, if you want to put something in my stocking this xmas, switch up my secret pack with these 3 bad boys.

Drinking wine is like reading a book, you learn something about the author, you learn something about yourself, and there’s a story in it that you can enjoy alone or share with others.

QOTD – I drink wine for many reasons – makes me feel good, tastes good, makes food taste better, to learn and expand my pal, to enjoy time with friends and family, to forget about what is happening in the world for a while, etc.

QOTD: Geez, golly shucks. There you go Joe, you stole my reason for being in love with wine. Say it ain’t so. *Smile. Wink*
In one glass, one bottle there is the potential to transport you and the people you drink with to a place where time does not exist but only the poetry of beauty and life where all senses are employed to exploit every second from every smile.

Good show GV. Very knowledgeable guest – a little too text book though. He sounded like he was overdosing on Oz Clark. I may be just a bit jealous on the pedigree of wines he rolls in.

QOTD – I drink wine because I love the varieties, the nuances, the way it changes with food, the way it smells.

Very good show, Gary. Nice job, Joe. Lots of wine knowledge displayed. I appreciated Joe’s passion, but he did provide a little too much textbook information for the Thunder Show. Still, a very nice effort.

QOTD: Why do I drink wine? Because it is there… and it is really, really, really good.

Way to share the knowledge Joe. Very strong show. Wine to me is like music – it enlivens the senses and can elevate the mood of a meal, or completely captivate you.

QOTD: For me, wine is an expression of the climate, soil, and the attitude towards life of the people of that region through the grape. Each bottle, when well-made, tells me something about where it comes from- a sense of place of the vineyards’ site. How much or how little the juice has been manipulated tells something about the people of the region and their view about wine. Whether that means the wine tastes like a pure, true fruit-and-earth balanced expression or something closer to an interesting project conceived by the winemaker, there is a time and place for every wine and I enjoy the unique experience that each bottle brings… Plus there’s nothing like an easy wine buzz.

  • Ilse-Belgian but living in Spa

Wonderful show, probably the best of all I’ve seen so far…Joe knows a lot about wine, that’s for sure! If he ever wants to visit his favourite wine region Ribera del Duero, he can stop at our place just north of Madrid (on the way to Ribera del Duero) for a rest, and a good glass of wine! (or Belgian beer, just as nice, with the right company)
I’ve liked a lot as well Gary’s comment about the food…Ribera del Duero is indeed a great place to enjoy cordero (lamb) – cochinillo (milk pig) – cabrito (little goat), all prepared in a real wood fired oven (cf. old pizza ovens)…
QOTD : for me wine, like good bear, is the nectar to celebrate good company!

  • Sweet show, loved all the tidbits of knowledge!

Oh, and the part about the left and right banks of Bordeaux being like the Bloods and the Crypts is so true! :o) You gotta watch out!

QOTD: I’ve always liked wine- it’s my alcoholic beverage of choice. Little by little I’ve fallen in love with it and have realized that this rabbit hole goes quite a long way…
