Hi, you must try the Touriga Nacional from Dão.

    Noobie! :) .

It’s just outrageous! When i first saw the Wine Library TV i could not belive it :) . I’m a wine-loving-noob inspired by Oz and James Big Wine Adventure series to try some new things and get the science right. I’m only starting to build my pallete (is that how you spell it? :) ) and after watching a few episodes i think you set me up on the right track. I mean – i thought this all notes thing was a hoax. I didn’t taste anything… until just recently, when I got a glass of wine, tasted it (smelling doesn’t work as well as i’d like it to… yet), and thought – hell, i can taste cherries here! whoa!. So Gary – big thanks to you for doing what you’re doing i think it’s amazing :) .

P.S. as for the question of the day – i tried to find some wines from portugal with Touriga Nacional’s but i couldn’t (and that’s weird, if it is supposed to be their own nacional grape). Will try though :) .

    Big thanks again,
    Maciej “cahe” Janowski

Nope. Never had a Touriga. This might be the time to purchase several bottles to drown my sorrows in on election night, when I fear McCain might loose.

    Gary Vee,

I have not yet had a Touriga Nacional. Maybe soon. Perhaps it will appear in my ‘blue state’ Secret Pack.

I have a question o’ the day for you. Have you ever watched your boy, The Iron Shiek, during any of his hate-filled diatribes currently available on YouTube?

While I find them endlessly fascinating and incredibly outrageous, they are NOT for the faint of heart or the easily offended. Freud would have a field day with this loon…

    Regards,

    Freddie Blassie

Just love Touriga Nacional; It’s my favorite Portuguese grape. Love the chocolate in the So. The “So” happens to be one of our Uncle’s House Wines! Excellant! Go Tio!

Had some other good Portuguese wines(about 5, don’t remember the names as they were too long) at our little cousins first birthday last week. Nice!

    Hey WLTV!
Just found you on the web.
    It’s a great show and a great concept. You’re making a
lot of folks feel at home in wine world.

Thanks for beefing up my notes on Touriga Nacional.
I look forward to working my way through the Archives.

Nice show, I always mean to try some portuguese, but never do.

QOTD: I have tried a few blends, but no single varietal from Portugual.

This was the WOTM over on the forums like, a year ago …

I liked it ok, but honestly I’ve had mixed results with affordable Portuguese wines (I had a Cerejeiras that was just horrid), and I haven’t cracked any of my Bagas yet as I’m not entirely sure how to help it do its best.

As for what to open and toast President Obama with: is it too early for a 2000 Haut Bages Liberal, or would it be more appropriate to grab something from Washington?

    Gary -

Good show! QOTD: Never had a dry Touriga before. I hopefully will be picking up a bottle of tawny port (maybe a Dow Colheita) at my local wine-shop tomorrow, so I’ll look for a Touriga Nacional while I’m there.

QOTD: Just in Port and some blends, I don’t think I’ve had 100%. Went to the Illinois rout of Indiana with my dad, and we had some wine the night before. Have a nice weekend guys!

Hey Gary thought this episode was great. Just wondering if you have ever tried any wines from the Azores, seeing as they are a part of Portugal.

All in for the secret pack. I hope I have reason to celebrate on election night, but if not, 3 bottles of wine ought to help me drown my sorrows.

Wanted to buy the Touriga Douro but it is all gone. I have had the Nacional and I really liked it. Bought two bottles at WL. What happened with Ustream. Went on for the first time today to see a live show and it was blurred out. What gives?

Gary, great show as usual. I love that you didn’t get all macho when you answered the phone like most men would do! I think I have had a portugese red, but not sure if it was this grape? I liked it though, and I will seek more out for these prices! Thanks….

QOTD – I don’t think so, maybe? Sounds good to me, though!

My son sent me a bottle of “porto from Porto”. It was fabulous. Haven’t tried the Touriga yet…but I’m on it. Can’t wait to order the secret pack and cheer for Obama on election day!

Actually “Só” means Only in Portuguese. Also Só “Touriga Nacional” is from “Terras do Sado” Region (south of Lisbon) not from Douro. It’s a lovely wine but you should try the Touriga Nacional from the Dão Region. Like for example “Quinta da Pellada”, and “Casa de Santar”, “Quinta dos Roques”

From the region “Terras do Sado” you can find one of the best sweet wines in Portugal – Moscatel de Setúbal. Made manly from “Moscatel de Alexandria” and also from a very rare grape varietie “Moscatel Roxo”.
    Give it a try.

QOTD: I haven’t yet tried this varietal, ports aside, but I’m headed down to my wine store to remedy that situation.

I have had both of those wines and agree they are both very good- And Rhodes is OK

You can run for president Obama wasn’t born here either! Go for it-
