Gary,

Alentejo wines specifically from the Evora region of the Alentejo continuously bring pizzaz and the long finish that you long. I agree with what your saying about portuguese wines. Maybe i have a prejudice as well, being Portuguese myself, but Portugal is consistently putting out wines that really wow me. Wines that are priced like your average table wine, but intense enough to pair with high end cheeses, meats, or drinking alone. Quinta de Cabriz is another wine priced about $6 a bottle that is as complex as a possible $20 or $30 bottle.

Keep the Portuguese thunder comin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Garry!
I'm really pleased with your opinion about portuguese wines and portuguese grapes!
I just want you to know that the wine that you liked so much is not from the Douro region. "So Touriga Nacional" is a wine from Terras do Sado. It's a designation of origin near lisbon with amazing wines.
Keep up with your good work and taste more portugueses wines!

Nice to see wines other than port from Portugal bring the thunder!!... My family and I are doing alright, and I wish the same to you. QOTD: Had tons of it in ports, which I drink quite a bit, but never in a straight up wine. After this show I may have to!

Hey, it's me leaving a comment way after the fact again. I just go in catch-up mode.
QOTD: Well, I've had Port, so I've probably had Touriga Nacional! Yup. Never had as table wine though.

I´m Portuguese, from Douro (north), and a see your program many times.I like de informality of your show, de positive way how you comunicate.
Of course that I apreciate that you like Touriga Nacional and in general portuguese wines. I can sugest other wines like: Poeira, Batuta, Aciprestes, Vale da Raposa, Quinta do Valado, Vinha Grande, Lavradores de Feitoria (...). Very good wines, nice price.
PS sorry the bad english

Great show Gary. We went to a Portuguese wine tasting event last night (nov 28) and the best of the night was definitely the Touriga Nacional, from Herdade Dõ Sporão. On the nose the first thing I noticed was Gorgonzola, not kidding, it was a wild wine, awesome and well rounded, and you could say that you felt it stay in the mouth and not pass in high alcohol content through the throat, quite a nice wine. the taste was intense, with guava, chocolate, cherry and pepper hints... I bought a three pack. Good stuff.

The sommelier, Joao Cavaco also recommended a Vinho Verde, he said that we should drink it cold or chilled since that would bring out the best in it. I hope you find the time to put it on a next show.

Good episode as usual, nice to see Portugese table wine getting some props.

QOTD - As a stand alone varietal, no, but as part of a blend, yes, and was very happy with it. It was also inexpensive for the quality.
