Gary-you know a ton about wine. Your occasional mispronunciations and your unpolished interview skills make it so much more real. It’s like I’m at a real trade tasting exchanging ideas w/ another wine professional who doesn’t mind letting you know that he doesn’t know EVERYTHING.

The interruptions show that you are really enthusiastic. (get that 2nd spit bucket though-w/ the Cowboys logo-they deserve to be spit on after tonight’s fiasco).

The whole thing makes me respect you more not less.

And your comments show you really do know a lot about a wide slice of the wine world. I mean India – really. Come on.

    Do Not Change This Show!!!!
Glancing over ALL the comments, it annoys me that viewers want you to change the format – which is NO format. A free-flowing art form.
I can get the straight dope from Wine Spectator, RP, Decanter, World of Fine Wine (Jancis referenced this) and even Jancis’s own site.
I come here because it is serious about wine but w/ a young, fresh look at the whole world of wine.

didnt know who she was but now we’re talking! ive always been very lukewarm on your guests (except for K guy who was great) but this lady was smart and knew her stuff, very impressive. please have more experts on tasting with you. it’s very educational. when youve had random internet related people who dont know a thing about the wine and seem timid and dumb in the past it’s been painful. but any currently publishing critic or wine person (not someone selling something though) would be great.

QOTD: It was a GREAT idea! The more knowledge and passion for wine that can be shared with the public, the better.

QOTD – It was a brilliant idea. Two people who are incredibly passionate about wine and tasting together can’t be bad. I have watched my Jancis Robinson wine tapes many times and enjoy WLTV very much. Your sytles are very different, but your love of wine and desire to educate us is similar. Thanks for making this a fantastic show.

QOTD: Jancis, it was a brilliant idea.

As much as I enjoy Gary’s show, have read his book (attended a book signing and talk as well), and bought wine from his website, I think you provided a nice balance.

Gary: don’t take this the wrong way. I think what you are doing is great, I just found Jancis to be a great addition. She seemed to roll with the show even though her style is quite different. Well done. I am glad that you reached out to her and that she agreed to come on your show.

QOTD : Grat idea – I didn’t know much about Jancis before today (despite living in the UK), but certainly came across as eloquent and knowledgable.

Gary – good job – toned down a little from the Randall Grahm shows, which was good to see.

In response to another writer’s suggestion that Gary turn over the thunder chair to a panel of other experts including JR, I would not object to Gary doing this on occasion but not permanently. Personally, while I find Gary’s style a little over the top sometimes, and I would personally never use the term “sniffy sniff” for evaluating a wine’s bouquet, I find Gary’s tasting and bouquet observations equal to or better than those of anyone else in the wine industry, in terms of their depth and accuracy. While it seemed strange at first watching him put dirt in his mouth on Ellen and Conan, his approach was vindicated by of all people Ernest Loosen, who asked a visitor to his holding in Wehlener Sonnenuhr to literally taste the slate soil. There is no substitute for first hand knowledge, even it if means getting dirty. Personally I thought his detection of watermelon bouquet in the Faiveley Pinot Noirs was a great coup, since the guest winemaker himself had missed it. I would love to see Hugh Johnson on his show, since JR was such a treat.

Yes, Jancis is was a very good idea!! : )
That was an extremely enjoyable show and it has left me with an urge for some sherry!

Gary- I really think you should be a master of wine! You’re such a rarity in the wine world, you should really be even more involved! P.S Get more English people on!! : D

QOTD: Others have said it more eloquently than I could, but the answer is GREAT IDEA. What a wonderful insight into one of the most influential and classy wine writers. And why do I love wine? Because it brings people together!

QOTD: It was a great idea. That was a very enjoyable, entertaining and educational show. Thank you Gary and Jancis.

Don’t be offended Gary, but I wouldn’t mind if you stepped out of the thunder seat and turned the show over to a panel of Jancis, Randall Graham, Charles Smith, and your father.

loved the episode…thought it was incredibly interesting to actually watch new world vs. old world wine icons and their approach to tasting wine…i’ve only gotten into wine during the past year so i definitely lean towards the new world, but i absolutely appreciate the fact that jancis stepped somewhat out of her comfort zone by being on the show…kudos to gary for having her on and kudos to jancis for her willingness to do it…
