90/100

line of the day – ‘did these wines get scored a point higher because of a Jets victory. Yes’

Good positive show, with my highlight the scissor, paper, rock routine mid-tasting.

  • QOTD: Had the Pirie Estelle over the weekend. We bought three of those after trying it. A great and different white. Tonight we’ve opened a Lungarotti Rubesco that was given to us as a gift. We’ll see what that’s like as soon as I finish cooking.

  • Hey Gary,

Tropical fruit and banana in a Grand Cru Chablis ?! Doesn’t sound like a Chablis that deserves 93 points! Or perhaps you’ve sniffing too many wines today Gary??
For the viewers out there looking for an awesome (always unoaked) Chablis experience, try Louis Michel’s Chablis’, especially his 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre! High acidity and minerality along with super-focused, citrus driven fruit!

QOTD: After a long phase dominated by Germany Rieslings, I find myself slowly gravitating back to reds from Burgundy and Piemonte!! And, there’s always room for Champagne!

We just finished a CULLEN Margaret River “Diana Madeline” 2002 for our 18th anniversary. Went great with a couple of T-Bones and a Brie appetizer.

Had a lovely 2002 Columbia Merlot the other day. It was jammy, smooth, but good tannins. Also searching for a “standard” chard that can be relied on, looking good for the Coppola Gold Diamond right now, but trying a Simi soon. Don’t care much for the apples and pears chards, really want to find one with pineapple flavor profile.

Gary — thanks for showing some love for Chablis. Along with white Bordeaux, one of my favorite underrated whites! Next time, bust out some older Chablis, I’d love to hear your thoughts about these guys when they get some age on them.

QOTD: Recently: 2004 Chinon, 2005 Old Vine Australian Grenache, and a tasting today of 2001 Lalonde de Pomerol, 2005 Saint Emilion Grand Cru, 2005 Haut- Medoc, and 2003 Graves.

GV – good show! It would be nice to see you bring back Chardonnay because it is an exceptional varietal. I particularly like contrasting the Chablis style with a very good California Chard to show people the differences.

QOTD – I have just recently celebrated my 20th wedding anniversary and I will highlight some of the wines that we drank over the course of the week of celebration:
    – 2000 Carpe Diem Pinot Noir
    – 2003 Branson Coach House Grenock Block Shiraz
    – 2005 Lewis Cellars Alec’s Blend
    – 2006 Runquist Petite Sirah
    – 2006 Ringland Shiraz
The star of the bunch was the Lewis Alec’s blend. It is a blend of 70% Syrah and 30% Cab Sauv. It brought the thunder in a very big way!

Just got around to watching this episode. Thanks for all of the knowledge. I love learning more about wines.

I’ve been really turned off by the over oaked Chardonnays that I’ve had but I think this weekend I’ll go to my wine shop and pick up a Chablis and give that a try.

QOTD: I recently picked up a Zweigelt to try. It seems like forever ago that you had that on the show, but I really enjoyed it. Always trying new things!

Gary, I just began watching your show, and i must say that it is incredible to see someone else who is as passionate about wine as I am. i write a weekly newsletter for the wine store I run, and I feel your show is along the same lines, and totally educational and fun. Cheers to your efforts!

QOTD- I got to have a glorious dinner with Alfredo, the owner of Billington Wines (Importer) and had an AMAZING Chardonnay, the 2005 Catena Alta Chardonnay, specifically. Joseph, Mary, and the Baby Jesus…it was breathtaking! It retails around $50, and is sure to stand up to almost any CA Chard. I hope you can try it=)
    Kampai!

Gary, great show. Have been a fan of Chablis for a long time. Thanks! Last night was historic although my candidate did not win. As Sen. McCain said, I’m proud to be an American and I will support my new president. Lately drinking a lot of Aussie Shiraz. Nice pours at a good price. I should follow my own advise and switch to nice Chablis and fish dishes.

  • QOTD: Right now, I’m drinking some 24/7 Riesling 2007 as I’m watching the show. It’s kinda tasty, with a lot of apricot, morphing a little bluestony with a tiny bit of acid. My go-to wine of the moment, however, is Vina Brava Tempranillo. I’ve enjoyed it ever since you did a show featuring a Tempranillo a while ago. Thank you for introducing me to that grape! And thanks for a great show, Gary!

Right now I am really into drinking the classics ( Bdx, Chablis, B.gun.d, elegant Rieslings ).
Nice show – it was fun as usual.

Fun show as always – Chablis is good and the teaching you give even better.

QOTD: been a bit addicted to a Mataro from a local winery here in Cyprus – it tastes gooood!

Great show – you are really convincing me to get out of this ‘only red wine’ habit I have. Really.

QOTD: Had Pradi Ayala Rioja (’06) last night – breaking open a Monteforche this weekend.

QOTD: Las thing I had was a Pinot Grigio – that’s OK though, it is only the second one I have had, so I’m expanding my palate.

One thing, I’ve heard you use the word atypical a couple of times recently – this means NOT typical.

Thanks for posting a show about Chablis, GV! I have never had one, but I am eager to go find one and try it out sometime.

QOTD: I am not really drinking much right now because my favorite drinking buddy (wife) is pregnant, so she isn’t having any now. So, I don’t have as much either, but hopefully soon!

I’m going to run out and grab a few Chablis to try. QOTD, I’m hooked on the 2007 Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc – Viognier. It has become my new house wine I enjoy with food and just sipping while watching Wine Library TV! A wine I would have never tried if not for your show (trying to expand). Keep up the great work.

  • Fianlly, Chablis gets some credit!

When I got married my main course wine was Chablis Led Clos!

Not sure how to say it?

Great show! I liked the wine lesson on the classifications of Chablis. More wine nerdiness please.
