    Thanks Gary and Kat

Got to love the knitting I’m a big fan.

QOTD: it’s always tricky when you get political, but I’ll say this. 99.99999% of the World’s population outside the US are very excited about what’s happening. There is no discussion, debate or conflict over who ‘The World’ prefers.

    Cheers

QOTD:No! We still have un-fair two party dictatorship run by the corporate elites that prevent nationally televised debates featuring independent candidates.
We are in an un-constitutional war with a bloated military budget, and bailing out AIG and Intel while unemployement is increasing! What ever happened to governement “by the people and for the people.” Instead we’re by the Corporation and for the Corporation thanks to people always voting for the least worst (AKA Barrak Obama and John MCain). Time to vote indie Now!

QOTD Totally i cant wait to see obama in action, i think his energy plan will rebuild the national energy issue and help restore the economy at the same time. Id rather see our taxes go into something more productive than try pooring the cash into AIG or other lending companies that do encourage an economy to grow but also encourages it to fail when most people don’t become successful and end in debt.

Jets are kicking ass right know BTW

Funny Knitters Story, Gary. I golf with in N. Michigan every year with the same 7 others guys each May. We fly in to Traverse City and stay at a family run resort on Lake Michigan during the long weekend. For about 3 years, a group of ‘knitters’ also came up at the same time to knit and drink wine for the weekend. Have you note, they stayed up later each night than we did (we couldn’t keep up) and probably had an average of 10 years on us per person. Apparently, wine and knitting are a natural fit!

I will do a separate post after watching the videoblog. Gary, I want to wish you (by now) a belated Happy Anniversary – and I know you enjoyed it immensely – and now a Happy Birthday – which I expect you are already enjoying immensely. :-)

This was a most entertaining game. I am very thankful the outcome was not settled by the controversial holding penalty to Mike Vrabel which led to the Jets’ late touchdown. I was much more dissapointed with the overthrow of Cassels to Moss, and especially by the blown coverage of Pats #31 (Meriwether I believe) which led to the Jets’ 3rd and long conversion in OT. In my view it is those two late mistakes which cost the Pats the game. Oddly enough in OT I had a deja vu of this same Pats player missing coverage during the Giants’ final scoring drive in the Super Bowl, which allowed a crucial 3rd down completion to (I think) Steve Smith. Nonetheless, it was a strong performance offensively by both teams, and the Jets’ hard-fought victory was well deserved. As a footnote, Brett Favre’s on-field comments after the game were very gracious.

Loved the non-industry guest! Great to hear her just express it in her own words.
Also, wowed me on the #s involved in Knitting. Can’t believe it. So weird to think of all the niche ways people make money and the way people meet other people. Really cool.
And John H’s story about the group of Knitters staying up the latest – damn funny. Who knew?!

  53. November 14, 2008

    Ray Barnes

This was a good show too, charming guest..and in my view better than the one who appeared just prior to the Jancis show. Very fair, unexaggerated commentaries.

QOTD – The guest asked if the viewer is psyched by what is happening in the USA since the election. That is NOT a political question. If she had asked if the viewer was psyched by what is happening as a result of the election, that is a whole different kettle of fish. As a Canadian I cannot answer the question.

QOTD. yes, even in japan we are totally psyched about obama!! good onya yanks. you finally found (and voted for!) a really good one. and a positive spin on the abject failure & climate criminal that precedes obama is that his pathetic (criminal might be more accurate) performance made the change to obama possible.

QOTD: Before the election I was like “yeah Obama’s cool but does the president really have enough power to fix things? Can anyone really fix the mess we are in?” And now that he’s won, I’m not a skeptic anymore. Seeing that winning this election was a feat to begin with, I can see that he will bring the Thunder come January.

And I’m just glad I can stop having nightmares about a Palin administration.

I live in Maine, but since I couldn’t care less about football, I hope the Jets win so you can be happy while celebrating these two occasions. By the way, I just tried a 1968 Bual Madeira (I forget the producer) that was very good and very interesting. Just thought I’d mention it in case you thought you should do a Madeira show.

GV: Big up to the Jets and GV for supporting them through thick and thin!

QOTD: I really liked this guest until she said she was stoked? STOKED? REALLY? If you are stoked to have a president who is more into talking about “look at me I’m a black man who won President..oh Hi Oprah!” ; If you are intested in watching more Miss Ebony United States or Black American Idol; If you are more intested in raising the minimum wage to $9.00/hr..(WHAT IS HE THINKING?) or eliminating taxes to anyone over the age of 55 (HELLO BABY BOOMERS… Please Give me your vote)… yeah you probably are stoked! For the rest of the tax paying, social secruity screwed, stock market slammed, housing market flushed, vino drinking nation.. pull out some Mad Dog and raise your glass to a hard one up the ass… at least for the next 4 years…

Maybe we should look at the bright side… maybe can he pass a new law allowing the shipping of Colt 45 across state lines…

Great show Gary and Cat. Gary, I’ve gotta say you did an awesome job with the spit buckets, the bottles, everything we talked about. You kept the show on track, but the guest got her time as well. Freaking Sweet! Awesome Jets win last night too!

QOTD: I’m not stoked, but I’ve decided that no matter how bad the stock market, and loan market get, I’m going to keep a positive attitutde, because there is something to be done out there.

Nice guest, great show. Well-made gifts, Happy Birthday Gary. I was correct in predicting the game would be a nail-biter, but not in the last few minutes. Do not like #4 at all. Not even much of a football fan, but when it came down to watching the morbid and depressing 11 o’clock news, I chose the game. Glad the final outcome was a win for your sake.

QOTD: No, the election was a disappointment. That’s all I have to say on that.

Very good episode and you will really enjoy the knit stuff. I always did when my mom made stuff for me. I am quite excited about the prospects for an Obama presidency but that is all of the politics I’ll say. Congratulations on what turns out to be a great day for you GV with the Jets now leading their division.

Have you ever tried Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc. It is a tad expensive but the taste and nose is great.

I can’t believe you chose Simi as the California representative wine. No wonder you are biased against California Sauvignon Blanc! Popularity does not equate to quality.

For an old-world Sancerre-style SB, try the Dry Creek Fume Blanc. At the $10 price point, try the Kenwood, Husch, or Geyser Peak. At under $15, try the Honig, Voss, Handley, Chateau St Jean “La Petite Etoile”, Beringer Alluvium, and a slew of others. For under $20, the Navarro, Provenance and Turnbull are outstanding. There is plenty of great California Sauvignon Blanc to be found out there.

Happy Birthday Gary! Great job with the show, making your guest feel welcome while keeping the proceedings moving at a good pace. You just keep getting better.

Enjoyable show…I wanna knit now :)

I, myself am also enjoying a great white. It is a Jo Pithou, Chenin Blanc, from the Loire. Very aromatic, yet crisp and mineral. Awesome.

QOTD: Who could’t be! Hell! I’m more thrilled about what’s going on to the south than what is happening here in Canada!

Coolio show, Gary! Cat was a great guest, and you totally rock the scarf and the hat. Perfect Jets color, too. Congrats on the HUGE Jets victory (honestly… not a massive Jets fan, but I love Favre and I HATE the Patsies! Mega congrats on the anniversary and HAPPY FREAKIN’ BIRTHDAY!!

QOTD…. hmmmm how do I say this nicely? HELL NO I AM NOT STOKED!!! Actually, I am terrified. When terrorists and dictators both supported and immediately congratulated Obama on his victory, followed by announcements that Putin is placing missles on the Polish border (after Obama declared he will scrap our missle defense shield in Poland to protect our NATO allies), Ahmadinejad tells Obama to stay the hell out of the Middle East and follows that up with medium range missle tests after proclaiming that he wants to erase Israel from the map, Putin and Medvedev announce that they are working on changing the Russian “constitution” to allow 2 consecutive 6 year terms and that Medvedev is willing to resign so that Putin can once again be President of Russia (his dream is to be the “new” Czar and once again expand the Russian Empire), I get nervous… When our economy is already weak and Obama promises to raise taxes, which will stifle new business development, raise capital gains taxes and corporate taxes, which will stifle new businesses and jobs and force some companies overseas, bring back the “death tax”, which hurts farms and small businesses, and to create a new massive socialist welfare state… er…. excuse me…. “redistribute the wealth”… I am scared. He has promised to gut our national defense, which eliminates the deterrence that the US has against aggression around the world, emboldens our enemies, and sends the message to dictators and terrorists around the world that they can now do whatever the heck they want to, and the US won’t do anything about it. So, NO… I am NOT stoked! I am afraid for our country. I am afraid for Americans because if he leads us down this path, there is no place for us to go. There are no more “America’s” out there. There are no more undiscovered lands for us to run to. This is it. Pray for our nation, people! ps… No, I am not a McCain fan, either… but he had the potential to be better than what we got. Damn… I need a drink! Got zin?

Fun, fun show on G-Man’s birthday with a very nice lady.

Talking about SBs, I had a great one with some oysters this past weekend in Annapolis, MD called Sileni from NZ. Very nice stuff that I need to find.

QOTD: Ummm, no. I concur with the response from TiminSpokane except I may move to Australia or NZ instead of Canada. Too cold up there.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY GARY!!!!

    Cheers!

I can’t believe you do not have a beautiful tating room with candles and nice glassware for your show, at least when you have a guest on.
    Smell it first.

QOTD- No. I’m sure it’s all very cool but… No. Couldn’t care less. ; )
    Nice show though!

    Minervois tonight for me. Nice!

Fun guest- thanks, Cat! Now to check out your blog.

QOTD: Guardedly hopeful. It does require that we all get up off our butts and work with our elected representatives; both speaking out and listening carefully (not just to ads and mainstream media…). For ideas about concrete actions to help our country that may even involve some sacrifice(!) on our parts, ask your (or someone else’s) grandparents/great-grandparents how it’s done.

Timinspokane, I am terrified you’re going to end up in an ICU with one of my west coast colleagues taking care of you! Turn off your TV and start getting a minimum of 7 hours sleep each night! (You remind me of my brother- I worry about him, too.)

    Hi Gary,

I had heard about you from some people that I talked to at Whole Foods, and also I’m attending your seminar at the Wine Expo in Boston. Please do not bash the NE Patriots as part of your keynote speech. Also, I think I asked you this before, but I’ll ask again, are you bringing some wines for us to taste, and to sniffy sniff at the Boston Wine Expo. ;-)

Just had the Pirie South SB from Tasmania, I believe I nabbed it from WL. Excellent, shockingly fruity – tropical, but balanced with the grassy. Just really surprised at how good it was.

QOTD: Yes, very excited about our future with Obama! Then again, I know how great a guy he is because he is my upperclassman. We attended Punahou School together in Hawaii, and he was a considerate and wonderful guy since those days.

Also, great job with the two spitoons Gary! It appeared that your guest was more comfortable, as I was watching the show.

I live in WA and am also too close to OR and CA. I can’t stand liberals. They are duped by the liberal media and take it as the gospel truth. Dem. politicians say they need more money and are horribly irresponsible with it. I’m moving soon as I am sick of it. Thanks to Tim in Spokane.

QOTD: Since dancing in the streets in Oakland to celebrate the end of an era of oppression and corruption, I am still glowing in the fact that Obama is our next president I think it will usher in a new era of hope and progress for the entire world.

Congrats Gary on the humongous win! I rushed to a sports bar when I saw the Jets were leading 24-13 and saw perhaps one of the best 4th quarters of all time.

GV – seemed like a very knowledgeable guest. She knew what she liked. I am surprised that you would do Sauv Blanc without a Loire Valley version – how would you like some minerals with your grass.

QOTD – Momma always told me not to speak about Religion, Politics, or the Great Pumpkin. However, I will just say short and sweet – the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over again and expect a different result.

Great episode regarding one of my favorite grapes. Two new wines to locate and try, will stay away from the California versions.

A lovely young lady and I enjoy how you expand horizons with guests and other aspects of this program.

Great show. Wine and knitting, what a great combination. I tried knitting once, unsuccessfully, but the process is quite therapeutic, much like drinking a glass of wine.

QOTD: No, not particularly. I am going to have to agree with Tim in Spokane on this one.

    @Timinspokane,
Wow. Crawl in a hole somewhere and in a couple years, peak your tiny mind, er, head out from under your rock. When you see the world is still okay, not great, but okay, come back to civilization and enjoy yourself.

Sonoma does have some WONDERFUL Sauvingnon Blancs. You shouldn’t pick them based on popularity.

Try Dry Creek Vineyard’s Sauvignon and Fume. Lovely!

I look forward to trying more New Zealand and Chilean Sauvignon Blanc. Those both sounded delicious. Meanwhile, I’ve become such a fan of Riesling that I’ve got one from Italy chilling in my fridge as we speak.

QOTD: I am very excited for my country after Election Day! I’m also fascinated by knitting. I’ll have to check out Cat’s podcast.

I used to knit a little, but the last afghan I knitted (zig zag design with shades of blue) took me two years to complete and I swore that I would never knit again.

What is the story with California sauvignon blancs? Haven’t the winemakers tasted New Zealand Sauvis? Are they deliberately trying to be boring?

    Happy Anniversary.

QOTD: I am happy and relieved and hopeful.

Not so psyched since the election, watching the stocks tumble and tumble. Where is the bottom? We will all learn a new meaning to contributing.

Nice show on sauvignon blanc and Cat seems like a really nice lady.

QOTD: Psyched? No, not exactly. I would be psyched if the stick market started going up on a consistent basis and the economy wasn’t tanking big time. At least the oil prices have fallen. Let’s see what Obama and his group can do when they actually take office.

    Hey Gary!

Why haven’t I received any new Wine Library links since this episode (Episode #577)? I noticed that you are presently on Episode #582. What gives?

Great show Gary! I LOVED this guest! She was really fun to watch and contributed a lot to the show. I used to knit scarves a lot so it was cool that it was mentioned. I’m really glad that you brought in a couple wines from different countries. I’m hoping to go to Chile next summer so it’s exciting that you chose a wine from there.

I think there are a lot of “closet” knitters out there.

We’ve finally finished our much delayed crossover episode for CAT’s appearance on WLTV episode #577. It’s at:

    http://letsknit2gether.com/2008/11/27/lk2g-036-gifts-for-gary-vaynerchuk/

I think the Gary wine tasting montage came out quite good, thanks in part to some Vayniacs on the WLTV forum! Thanks everyone!

We’ve also posted some extra videos. We did an interview with Gary before we shot the WLTV episode. Originally I was going to put clips from it into our show but they eventually got cut, so I posted the entire interview here:

    http://vimeo.com/2272638

During the editing I created a timeline with all of my “behind the scenes” footage laid in sync with the WLTV episode. It was really just an assembly to see what footage I had but it was interesting to watch on its own too, so I uploaded it here:

    http://vimeo.com/2360383

I also posted some stills on flickr from the shoot:

QOTD: Not exactly. Timinspokane made some very good points. Not that I was a big McCain fan; I’m an independent, and would have voted for Bob Barr if he’d had a chance in h@$% of winning. Anyway, Obama’s cabinet choices so far have been pretty centrist, so the next 4 years may not be quite as bad as I feared. If he can reverse some of the fascist BS implemented by the current administration (e.g. the “Patriot” act), then we might be ok.

I discovered this podcast through this episode, as I am an avid knitter and have been doing it for a few years now. I am always the youngest knitter I know, at 39, because you when anyone thinks of it, they think of their grandma! I have been a huge wine fan for a several years now and have even gone to a few real tastings in Sonoma. I have watched all the old episodes through itunes that I can get my hands on because this is so much like me. I am sure most people watch this to learn something about wine and think “How can I make more money so I can afford great wines?” and my thought is “How can I turn this into a job?” I know I have to get out of the midwest because there is not much going on here in the way of wine!

Kat really brought it today! Another person to give you a run for your money, Gary ;) . QOTD: Im excited because we didnt give into the fear and propaganda from a few who didnt want Obama president. Its of course too early to know what will happen but the fact that we we able to come together and look past color really shows that this nation is changing and hopefully moving in the right direction.
