Tannat is the Bret Favre of red wine. Like rock salt on the face in the morning. It toughens one up, if you can get down with that. In this bizare economic climate, when everybody’s on the take, it would do all of us good to toughen up. When the going gets rough, the Tannat crowd sail a yacht thru it. Keep Rocking it Gary, and thanks for keeping it real.

Qotd: Did not find Vinho Verde in a search.

    Whee, tannat!
Gary’s a brave man to drink an ‘06 Madiran without decanting. ;)
Very interested to see how it develops over the weekend.

QotD: Irouleguy, negroamaro, counnoise, monica, and vin jaune from Jura. And wines from lesser-known regions (US and international) are always welcome.

(Oh, what about China? I’ve seen more and more Chinese wines, haven’t consumed any. I’m leery (!) but agnostic and curious if any are any good. Perhaps for a Lunar New Year show…)

Gary when I was at the Library yesterday I looked for somthing from ths award winning Hagafen winery but it was a no show. I was there this past summer and loved the wines how about giving them a sniffy snif.

Gary! You have to predict this way all the time. It’s the Jets’ anti-jinx!

QOTD: You have done whole shows on just about every Chilean varietal except . . . pinot noir. So that is my request: a Chilean pinot noir show. This is brought to mind because I have been ejoying Terra Andina Pinot Noir ($15.00). It is one of the most delicious red wines I have ever had.

I said it before, and I’ll say it again (because you asked.)…
DO A SHOW ON THE DAMN JURA REGION OF FRANCE ALREADY!!! I think it’s about

your mojo was present and accounted for!

why are the shades closed behind you? Were you not in your office?

I like the stemless glass. I use that at home as well. Hand warms the wine, awakening the “sniffy sniff.”

All I can say is, taste more kosher wines, maybe include them in secret packs if you are so big on getting people to try them, and there was one that was previously corked- retry that one.

What’s up Grizzly Adams? That’s gonna be one hell of a beard come next Sunday!!! What a complete domination of the “so-called” Titans. You and me both know that there’s only one Titans team, and they belong to NY! Kevin Mawae got schooled today! I LOVE it. We’re changing the football world whether they like it or not. BOO-YA!!!

I’d love to see more wines from SW France- it’s such an interesting area.
Also, wine from the countries we never hear of- Slovakia, Greece, India & China, there must be some wine producing African countries too.
Although I am a sucker myself for sticking with old world wines so lots of France and less USA!

Nice Jets win today. When we (the Bears) played them a few ago I was not impressed and thought they were not the team reflective of their record. You guys exposed them for they are…an above average team that is very beatable. My boys played well today, too, and showed some real spunk. Lets hope we both stay tough, play smart, and kick some ass during the last 5 games. Your Jets, pound for pound, got a fighting chance to go deep. My Bears…not so much.

QOTD: I’d love to see something that is always mentioned as a flavor profile in wines, but have never had myself: Cassis.

Congrats to the J-E-T-S! HUGE win, and I think it’s time to make a serious run toward the playoffs! Wish my Browns could get their shit together…

QOTD: Irouleguy, Gaillac, Jurancon, & Bearn and other SW France wines!

Now Da Colts have to win tonight.

QOTD: Canadian wines from the Vancouver area?

First of all, great show on Tannat – although I would have expected a show on Tannat to have more than one wine. Second, congrats on the Jets huge win over the Titans (although I have repeatedly said that the Titans were NOT the best team in the AFC let alone the NFL. I mean, Kerry Collins? Come on!

Here are my show suggestions: Barsac as a region; Morocco as a wine region (check out Alain Graillot); Chinese wine.

And for the record, I’ve never left. :-)

Gary, Really looking forward to meeting you and the “staff” at the wine library this Tuesday…I figure you’ll have calmed down, (a little) by then! HUGE win for the Jets! I’m picking up an on-line order and will say “hi” while I’m there. See you soon, Best, Mike

First, I love Tannat thanks for the show. Am interested in how it tastes Monday, we always decant for 6-8 hours.
    QOTD:
The red wine from Chablis, Irancy would be interesting. This is not a wine but Calvidos. Perhaps a show featuring different importers and their style, Louis Dressner.

    JETS WIN!

    Hi Gary,

At first I was thinking of nero d’avola blend from Sicily (e.g. a Cerasoulo di Vittoria) but then I noticed that you have tasted a nero d’avola at the Thunder show. But what about a cannonau di Sardegna? Basically it’s a grenache but with it’s own style.

Another suggestion: What about some of the fabulous wines from Languedoc that Jeffrey Davies served at the WL Super Tasting in October? La Negly for instance?

    Cheers,
    Jens
