    Great laid by show Gary!

QOTD: Box wines. There seems to be some drinkable box wines out there these days. No I’m not talking Franzia! A good example is Black Box. I tried their Cab the other night and its really not that bad. It was a table wine with some character.

    Hey Gary,
How about doing a show on blending wines. Take some more basic varietals, blend them together LIVE on the show and see what craziness comes out of it! What do ya think?

    A good episode as usual.

QOTD – Don’t use the search feature much. Will maybe use it more.

QOTD: I’d love to see more on blended wines – the propietary blends that many wineries produce. I was always of the impression that these were of lesser quality, but have learned that this is not true. Learning to find value in these blends is a skill I’d love to hear more about.

GARY! Love the show. My wife and I have been watching for about a year and a half.
I’m from Arkansas. In the “River Valley” we have 4 or 5 vineyards that have been around since the 1800’s.
There is a unique wine made from Muscadine grapes that is produced at these vineyards from our natural grape. It has a really different and interesting taste. The vineyards (Post and Wiederkehr are the biggest) also produce the classic wines but the native “Arkansas wine” is Muscadine. You’ve gotta try it! It is … interesting. Also, the Post family makes a great Chardonnay. Another interesting vineyard is Mt. Bethel. They make a lot of fruit wines and they have a 10 year old tawny port called “Big Daddy” that is an AWESOME Christmas wine! It taste like nuts and chocolate!

    A Little History:
Way back in the day, the French wines were being attacked by a disease and it was wiping vineyards out in droves! They found out that the hardy, wild Muscadine grape stalk was resistant to this disease and exported the Muscadine stalks from all over the south (Texas, North Carolina, Arkansas, Missouri, etc…) to France. They grafted their grapes onto the stalks and it saved French wines!
So, you’ve GOT to try the Muscadine wine! Savior of French wines.

Also, almost every state has a vineyard or grape that they call their own. You should do 50 shows of the 50 state wines. Just an idea.

    Thanks!

    Gary,

I searched Geography & Maps with no results. I love when you drop knowledge on specifically where wine is from. Hook us up with a detailed map. It would help me understand region’s etc….

OMG what a great Sunday…JETS all the way for you!!! WOW!!!!

Nice ep…love the education and the stemless glass. They feel so comfortable in your hands.

QOTD: There are some wines that I would like your views on for sure – French Jura Region and what about Barsac, Priorato, Schioppettino of course I can’t find any of these and they are probably obscure but they might be fun to get your hands on!!

Love the fuzzy face..but I think your past the fuzzy stage and your in close length to Mott by now!!!

One thought on Tannat corresponding to what you’re doing. Best advice I was ever given on a Madiran (Ch.Montus ‘02, £14, god knows what you’d pay there) was from the bloke selling it to me. Buy it, open it, wait 3 days it’ll be right. Opened it on the Sat, took a glass out, window imploding tannins. Stuck the cork back in. It was perfect….on Thursday. Stunning wine.

Those babies are BIG. But given time, they’re just astonishing.

English wine! Stop laughing, we can do it. You could do both sparkling (ever had any?) and still (not to everyone’s taste, but when we do it right DAMN we do it right), & even get a side trip out of it when you’re next this side of the pond. Come to Plumpton College, only English language wine courses at university level in Europe, both production & business. See our vineyards, play in our pocket sized winery. Jancis opened the new wine centre last year last year, so you know it’s got to be good…

QOTD: How in the world can you do 582 shows and only do ONE Monterey wine? That’s down right criminal. Chateau Julien (just about everything I tried there was off the charts good, especially the Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Sangiovese Rosatto, and Black Nova) , Bernardus (the Marinus and Pinot Noir are highlights), Marilyn Remark (the Marsanne, Roussanne, and Grenache are wonderful), and a host of others deserve your attention.

    Homey!!!!!

Guess you were wrong about those Jets huh! Good for you that you were. Nice score!!!!

I think a Favia, Leviathan kinda show would be cool. Or how about a Pharaoh Moans laid back friday!!!

Now that’s what I’m talking about!

Nice seeing you again. Thanks for spending the time with me!!!!

How about a dessert wine episode on say… pineapple wine. Tedeschi vineyards located in Maui, Hawaii. They make bubbles too so you could do this as a holiday/new years theme, which bubbles are best to pop open. Also… what wine to drink with sushi?… this one works.

Thanks for the Tannat show! And for once, it’s not a Tannat from Uruguay.

    Also, WOW! Huge JETSSSSSS victory.

    QOTD: It’s Beaujolais time.

I would like to see a show or week were you try a wine from every state in the union. I don’t know if Alaska has a wine but most of the other state’s do.

  22. November 23, 2008

    Ian Raney

Would love to see more Temecula wines (kind of a selfish request because I live in San Diego)

Also would like more crazy shows like the different temperature wines. I suggested on ustream once a 7-11 show. Just go to a 7-11 and pick out some random good wines. Might be good for the imploding economy.

    Go JETS!
