Hmmm…I’m not much of a dessert guy myself, but I have to say that a good, home-made apple pie is pretty unbeatable. Put a little vanilla ice cream on top and I’m gone for at least an hour. ;)

Fun show but I’m not that big on dessert wines, let alone gingerbread houses.
That being said I would like to try a Sauternes eventually.
QOTD: Actually, Creme Brulee or Cheese Cake!!!

Great show. Never heard of a blueberry wine before. I wouldn’t share the ginger bread house (not home?? :-) ) with the staff or every one will get sick. Probably too late by now.

QOTD: I cannot get enough pumpkin pie with GOBS of whipped cream on top! I wish it was all year round.

Gary, I love most desserts, high on my hit parade are: gelato, hot fudge sundae, wild Maine blueberry pie a la mode, peach or strawberry shortcake, apple pie a la mode, strawberry glazed cheesecake, etc., etc. How about YOU; what are your favs? Happy Holidays to ALL, Naples Kathy aka Champagne Lady (aka Champagne free ship whiner).

Gary, thanks for another great episode. If you haven’t watched it, I suggest looking at the part where you try the bluberry wine right after the gingerbread house. That was hilarious. Those surprised (good or bad) reactions are probably my favorite element of the show. I like that you haven’t tried most of the wines before having them on the show. I like being able to see your first, honest reactions to those wines. I can get very excited or disappointed when tasting so I can relate when you react in those ways.
By the way, I think a nice vnitage Malmsey Madeira would have gone well with the gingerbread house. If you’re sick of me bugging you about doing a Madeira show feel free to send me an e-mail that says “stop”.

QOTD: I mostly like vanilla things–creme brulee. Warm molten chocolate cake is second and plain cheesecake is 3rd. Port and a fine chocolate pairing. Also an off-dry sparkler paired with any of these is fantastic. Love the Cowgirl Creamery cheeses. Unusual crafted ice cream and sorbet flavors(basil) especially in the warmer weather.

    Kevin K

QOTD: Fresh berries and whipped cream.

QOTD: Apple-blackberry pie with fruit from my (then) wife’s dad’s tree and the canes from across the street, crust made, filled, and baked by my father. Unfortunately, I will never have it again. But I am looking forward to a new favorite some day in the future.

Very fun and funny show. Made me want to go get a Sauternes or give one for Christmas.

A little disappointed with the wines you chose. Sugary sweet stuff and then a sauterne? Where’s the out-of-the-box crazy Gary who tastes wines in a blizzard, risks life and limb and health and sanity to bring in the thunder? I mean, even an amarone or a late harvest reisling would have been more interesting, and a spicy shiraz or even merlot would have probably been a little more interesting, a little more Rodney Dangerfield. You have to sprint to 600, not limp!

QOTD: Love homemade pies, any kind!

SO EASY!… a dark, dark, dark chocolate and very very dense and very moist mousse-type cake, smothered in more dark, dark chocolate sauce and fresh raspberries and raspberry sauce… a shear and utter murderous death by chocolate!

The pairing is also SO EASY! any decent port, maybe a 10-20 year tawny port at 65 degrees… HEAVEN!!! (I’ll defer to someone else if they wanna chime in on a specific bottling of port)

There aren’t too many desserts I don’t like, but my favorite is anything involving caramel. And the wine I like best with caramel is Tokaji.
