When I first logged on I was unable to leave a comment for some reason. It is good to see a wine from New Jersey make it to the show. That Moscato for a simple wine sounds pretty good too. Congrats to the Jets – yes it was a close call.

    Gary,

Great to see you doing a New Jersey wine.

    You need to do more.

My apologies – the Sauternes looks like a fantastic bargain at $40 – and just in time for Christmas too, thank you Gary.

QOTD: Egotism reigns but I like two of my original desserts the best because they are show desserts that BRING the taste aqlong with them. They are: Chocolate Triflemisu and Raspberry Ttifle (without any yucky jello)

I like cheese or a fruit tart but only during the summer when the fruit is rallly good.

Verry cool show though I must say I love the Moscata di Asti much more than the 84 pts you gave it but hey, my palate is a rookie compared to yours.

QOTD: Tough one but I gotta go with creme brulee in Paris. Pair with that Sauterne you just reviewed and I would be in dessert heaven.

Off to buy a bottle of that Sauterne and yes, your boys really, really were lucky.

    Cheers!

P.S. If by chance the Colts plays the Jets in the playoffs, we have to meet at the game.

I’ve been slacking. Sorry, Mott. I eat mostly fruit for dessert. As far a “true dessert”, though, I guess that a good fruit pie or cheesecake would be my preference.

Fun episode. QOTD: I love good chocolate. My favorite dessert is a tiny molten chocolate lava cake. Hot chocolate cake with gooey melted chocolate sauce on the inside, and maybe a little scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. So good.

I have been downing a lot of store brand (Publix) cookies and cream ice cream lately. I have been a Vanilla fan for a long time but lately cookies and cream has drawn my taste buds.

Nivole is a fun little wine! Love it. Never thought of it as a starter wine before. I wonder if a late Harvest Furmint would pair better or not.

Like the cheese plate first (anything blue) with toasted pecans, then something chocolate (tiramisu, Mom’s chocalate pecan pie, B&J’s NY Superfudge Chunk). I din’t know anyone ever ate Gingerbread Houses.

I have to see a Jets game someday.
I can’t figure out when you grow a beard – when the Jets win or when they lose.
Blueberries are my favorite fruit; I don’t think you can ever duplicate that fresh blueberry taste. Mangoes are good too but I’m allergic to the skin – very unpleasant results on the lips.
My favorite dessert is apple dumplings. I recently went to a restaurant that had apple dumplings on the dessert menu and I ordered it but it wasn’t actually apple dumplings it was like an apple fritter with what they said was a calvados sauce over it (but I think that calvados is really way too expensive for this restaurant) and I was seriously miffed. the apples have to be enveloped in a really nice crust and swimming in apple dumpling sauce that has soaked into the crust and liquors should really not be a part of it unless very unobtrusively.
How much is the wine of the month and is shipping free?

  36. December 15, 2008

Maybe the key thing is for you to NOT go to the Game, Gary?? As lifetime Gang Green fans (had season tkts back in the Shea Days) we’re wondering if you not being at the game helped… gasp! … you’re not jinxing our boys, are you??

QOTD: repeat after me… HOT FUDGE SUNDAE. HD Vanilla Ice Cream, Hot FUDGE so warm it starts to melt the ice cream on contact, and a few walnuts in syrup on top. Maybe even a cherry.

We’re also devotees of the creme brule… but wondering if the 2005 Chateau Rabaud Promis with it’s brule nose and sensibility may be too much for that particular dessert, though…

    Thanks for a super show!

  41. December 15, 2008

Hey G, nice show…..love that ginger bread house

QOTD….sticky date pudding with cream, goes great with a Williams Selyem 2000 late harvest muscat.

Flan or Creme Brulee for me though great vanilla ice cream with Pedro Ximenez on it is also fun.
I really can’t imagine drinking any wine and nibbling on a gingerbread house though I have never bought one in the first place.

  44. December 15, 2008

    Hido53

QOTD: Mom’s apple pie or a scoop of Baskin-Robbins ice cream (cherries jubilee or mint chip)

QOTD: a cheese course instead of dessert.

    Jim Stephens-Wine Dude

QOTD: I was not much of a dessert person for a large portion of my life, but after delving in to the gorgeous culinary scene where I live in Santa Fe, NM, I discovered the most decadent dessert, a white chocolate mousse cake by Lisa Graf of the now closed Cafe San Estevan. Absolutely jaw dropping fantasticness…Kampai!

  50. December 15, 2008

    sharon

Oh I don’t know….Maybe a hot caramel sundae or homemade blackberry pie ala mode or something intensely chocolate or gelato affogato or maybe a freshly made pecan pie…Homemade peach cobbler with cream? Flan is nice. Gingerbread with a lemon glaze is good…

My wife is one heck of a good cook, so any meal/desert that she come up with is bound to be a hit.
Tonight she served sliced peaches, that we put up this past summer, served under a dumpling-like lite cake. All under a touch of warmed vanilla Silk.
Very lite, almost no calories, and healthy.
While I’m not altogether sure of the gingerbread house, the Rabaud sounds like something I will seek out. (At that price point, I would be a fool not to).

  52. December 15, 2008

    Little Jonny

Holy Crap! We just went 95 points on the TS! It got me like a snake in the boots, we were all down in the dumps and then BAM!

    apj_bobswineguy

Miles of Chocolate or Chocolate Oblivion!
diabetic too…but when I splurge it is usually chocolate that breaks me.

It is Michele Chiarlo. Great apricot-peach aromatics. Great light fizz.

Love the idea of this pairing and the one you did with the candy bars. Venture out to the great wide open!

  54. December 15, 2008

    OSCAR FALCON LARA

    QOTD:
Oh Boy! favorite dessert?!?! dessert is my favorite dessert.

I like chocolates but not chocolate cake, I can never find one that “brings the thunder” so I stick to 85%, 70% dark chocolate blends, and Catalan Cream (which is sort of the Spanish version of Créme brulée).

I also enjoy Moscatell sweet wines and apple cider( real apple cider ) a lot.

  55. December 15, 2008

    Scott EJ

Love the dessert wine and am really enjoying ports as of late. Also, I seriously don’t think Gingerbread houses are for eating. I’m not sure what the hell they’re for other than to look at.

QOTD: Sooooo many. Some that come to mind: Carrot cake w/cream cheese frosting, warmed volcano chocolate bundt cake w/vanilla bean ice cream, banana bread with chocolate fudge frosting, etc, etc. I don’t think there’s a dessert I don’t like.

p.s. Don’t count your Jets out. The AFC East is a jumble fruck and could go in so many different directions. My Bears on the other hand are on a one way trip to woulda-coulda-shoulda’ville this year. Regardless, we both will be glued to the last two weeks no matter what happens.

  57. December 15, 2008

  58. December 15, 2008

    Colleen

At xmas it would have to be a brandy soaked fruit cake with hot custard. Do a Port show already Chuk!

  59. December 15, 2008

    Ian Leong

Gingerbread pairings? Who would’ve thunk it?

QOTD: i’ve been really into Bread Pudding with Vanilla Cream ever since I learnt how to make it. But in Singapore we have lots of local dessert so one of my faves is glutinous rice balls fill with red bean paste in a clear sweet liquid.

  60. December 15, 2008

    Dan & Erin

    QOTD – 2 answers today…

    Cheese.
Well aged real stinkers like Munster , Brie or Camembert (unpasteurised, God help us!!!).
I’d die for a nice “tete de moine” with white truffle accacia honey.

Come to think of that, I’d pair any ripe strong flavoured cheese with mead (honey wine). Chestnut honey. Yes. Bitter at the end, like gewurztraminer.

    YUM.

Cheesecake plain, or maybe with a little cool-wip and sesame seeds.

You say leave a comment, so I’m finally leaving a comment! I’ve been lurking too long.

QOTD: Nothing like really really really good cannoli, freshly filled with a great crispy shell and maybe some dark chocolate. Only valid when IN Brooklyn. Yum.

Great show, love it and love love love you!

But I feel like it needs to go somewhere NEW in 2009. Switch up the formats every now and then; and throw in educational stuff for the sommeliers in training.

But don’t do anything gimmicky like editing!

  76. December 15, 2008

    Kirk AKA: (slave2thevine)

I mean is there really that much competition in the line-up? Come on Rabaud Promis versus million bottle production moscato, and Jersey fruit wine? Kinda saw this one comin’, but no worries G-Man sometimes one must softly reiterate their points ;)

QOTD: A well made cannoli, thick..thick. Or a dense cheesecake, NY style with sliced toasted almonds and strawberries. Yes, love it.

-Try a Gewurtz with the house- I was at a local winery that paired ginger snap cookies with their gewurtz and it was eye opening. The spices complement each other perfectly. Don’t know how the sweetness of the house would do, though.

-I actually like the “spilly-spill” better than your facial reaction!

-I’ve had the Tomasello cranberry, and it had some interesting nuances for being 100% cranberry- again nothing too complex, but it was a great substitute for the juice in a cosmopolitan!

    QOTD: CHEESECAKE!!

  108. December 16, 2008

I like things that are not too sweet. And no berry sauces or nuts!

    Or a good scotch.

Great show…and will definately have to hunt down some of the Chateau Rabaud-Promis…though coming from England I must admit I dont know what the relationship between Gingerbread Houses and Christmas is. To be fair Ive never even seen a gingerbread house full stop…odd!

GV you’re the shizzle man! Ginger bread houses and wine! You’ve got to be joking! I love it man. Hey, I just wanted to say this is Thomas out in Arizona (big fan and always at the SF parties) Thanks for the episodes with Erik and Maynard. They are pumping up the AZ wine scene and I really loved the show that day. I wish I would have known you were in town. We would have hooked your ace up with some good eats and tastes at the cellar at Aj’s in Mesa. Love your work man, keep it up! Hope to see you soon.

That was a fun episode to watch. I got more laughs from it than any other that I have seen.

I have always loved good coffee ice cream!
Flour less chocolate cake is first choice when eating out.

    Thanks!

Liked the show, although only the Sauternes stood out on the drinking side.

QOTD – Vanilla cheesecake, maybe drizzled with a little fresh cream.

QOTD: Cheese plate with some fresh fruit/nuts. If it had to be sweet (and not a wine)? I’d say Creme Brulee or a chocolate bourbon cake.

Hi Gary – nice show ! Hate to be a nerd but I must correct you one a few minor details …. a) Moscato d´Asti being a light sparkler, which is being produced via the Spumante-Method directly out of grape-juice, usually has not more than 5,5 % fermented alcohol. Sometimes they also mention the “potential” alcohol, which reads “5,5 % + 7,5 % alc.”. This however is only the residual sugar – if it had been fermented. Nivole has made himself a name recently – the more renown name crusing around the world is “Vigna Sensa Nome” or “Wine without name” from Braida. Don´t know if you have tasted that before.
    b) I believe David T mentioned that …. indeed try a not too dry Gewürz-traminer with the Ginger Bread …. you´ll be astonished !! The “Traminer”-
Aromas paired with the Ginger …. should be great – By the way … I wonder if you took into account the sugar-coating of the Ginger bread house does change the overall impression quite a lot.
    c) Having worked for a Bordeaux Negociant I can assure you that there are quite a number of less expensive Sauternes out there with a better return
than Rabaud-Promis. Saddly enough this house is not too reliable with their quality … although I can understand your point in trying to correct the WS.
If I had a chance and you were still stocking this I would certainly prefer a 2003.

So much from me – and sorry if I have been to direct … Cheers

Going with a barrel taste of Sauterne is just asking for trouble. These wines change every 6 months when in bottle & are more crazy when in barrel. Robert Parker does not like to rate/taste while in barrel & i think he waits until it is bottled to rate. With that said a GV95 you can take to the bank. I’d like to see some port with ‘da house.
    QOTD: good, heavy choco cake.

    Hey Gary…

I love any kind of fruit pie or cobbler. Or, tart things like lemon bars and key lime pie.

Thanks for all the great episodes! Went back and watched a lot of the blind tastings…love those.

I’ve taken two especially good pointers from you about Dolcetto and Bordeaux — my two new favs!!!

i know , i know, i have been one of the slack fucks….. sorry dude. i have been watching though.
it is hard to hate sauterne. it is so tasty. + with the gingerbread, it is a fun idea. sauterne has that spicy edge that could go well with the ginger and cinnamon.
almost 600 shows gary, no worries about wine and candy, sometimes you gotta say WTF

QOTD – panna cotta, i once told two older woman that were my costumers that it was the most divine thing that has ever entered my mouth – they both ordered it

Hi Gary and Mr. Mott! I think this Sauternes pairs perfectly with “Bolo de Rolo” (Guava Jam Cake) that is my state (Pernambuco – Brazil) most famous dessert. Gary should try in the show some Brazilian sparkling, they are very good. I just bought 3 bottles for New Year’s Eve: Miolo Millésime 2005 Brut, Chandon Excellence Brut and a Chandon Rosé Brut.
Happy Christmas and awesome New Year!

  135. December 16, 2008

The stripper comment cracked me up, I had to take my headphones off to keep myself from laughing at work. What episode was the, “I’ve never smoked anything in my life, including cigarettes or cigars, but I’ve hung out with plenty of individuals” comment? That’s my all-time favorite GV quote.

QOTD: Vanilla ice cream, crushed Oreos, and a little chocolate syrup: mix all that up and enjoy. At least 75% of the reason I was the chubby kid in class.

  137. December 16, 2008

    tampawinewoman

Gary great show! Actually quite genious. Your comments regarding the pairings had me smiling a few times. I like the married couple comment (no action). As well as the stripper – which is just classic.

QOTD: Fresh strawberries with brown sugar and creme fraiche; any dark chocolate dessert due to its amazing wine friendly attitude.

QOTD: Yikes I have to choose one dessert?? Tiramisu is definately high on the list. I have a friend who took a French pastry class and I don’t know the names of half her cakes but she makes some that are just amazing. She had a hazelnut chocolate mousse cake thing once with hazelnut praline on the outside, that was memorable. And she has a complicated lemon cake that is also phenomenal, I wish I could be more descriptive. But anything she makes counts as a favorite.

  140. December 16, 2008

    QOTD: Strawberry Shortcake

The Chateau Rabaud Promis sounds like it would be similar to Casa Larga’s Vidal Blanc Ice Wine.
If that’s the case, it’s delicious! However, the Chateau Rabaud Promis is a bit of a better value since the Casa Larga’s Vidal Blanc is $35 for a 350ml, but worth it.

  141. December 16, 2008

SO EASY!… a dark, dark, dark chocolate and very very dense and very moist mousse-type cake, smothered in more dark, dark chocolate sauce and fresh raspberries and raspberry sauce… a shear and utter murderous death by chocolate!

The pairing is also SO EASY! any decent port, maybe a 10-20 year tawny port at 65 degrees… HEAVEN!!! (I’ll defer to someone else if they wanna chime in on a specific bottling of port)

A little disappointed with the wines you chose. Sugary sweet stuff and then a sauterne? Where’s the out-of-the-box crazy Gary who tastes wines in a blizzard, risks life and limb and health and sanity to bring in the thunder? I mean, even an amarone or a late harvest reisling would have been more interesting, and a spicy shiraz or even merlot would have probably been a little more interesting, a little more Rodney Dangerfield. You have to sprint to 600, not limp!

Also an off-dry sparkler paired with any of these is fantastic. Love the Cowgirl Creamery cheeses. Unusual crafted ice cream and sorbet flavors(basil) especially in the warmer weather.

Gary, thanks for another great episode. If you haven’t watched it, I suggest looking at the part where you try the bluberry wine right after the gingerbread house. That was hilarious. Those surprised (good or bad) reactions are probably my favorite element of the show. I like that you haven’t tried most of the wines before having them on the show. I like being able to see your first, honest reactions to those wines. I can get very excited or disappointed when tasting so I can relate when you react in those ways.
By the way, I think a nice vnitage Malmsey Madeira would have gone well with the gingerbread house. If you’re sick of me bugging you about doing a Madeira show feel free to send me an e-mail that says “stop”.

Awesome episode…convinced a longtime fan to finally leave a comment!

the most amazing dessert ever EVER in the history of mankind is Merveilleux, which can be easily found in the north of France, where I spent a semester during college. A quick google search didn’t yield much info about it, unfortunately. It’s basically layers of light merengue and light chocolate mousse, covered with chocolate shavings. Doesn’t sound too extraordinary, but please, go to Au Merveilleux in Lille, France, and try it for yourself.

My girlfriend Caity wants to add hers: Ok, Mr. Gary…go into Manhattan, upper west side, Levain bakery…get yourself a hot,1/2 lb. choc. chip cookie. Probably, you’ve already tried it. That is my favorite dessert and the best bakery to make them! Thanks for such a fun show!!!

Happy Holidays, we miss the North!

….as for the Sauternes….I rarely have them with dessert….I am CooCoo for Cocoa Puffs over the pairing of Sauternes and Bleu Cheese….

QOTD: This time of the year I am in full panetonne mode. As Thoreau said,”Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, & resign yourself to the influences of each.” I love the foods and drinks of this season as well as every other(I cheer for imperial stout every year). What I want to know is what is your family holiday season dessert?

Anything made of rhubarb – not with strawberries, which dilute the flavor.
The more intense the flavor the better. As a kid we used to eat the stuff raw from our back alley like a celery stick, maybe dipped in a little raw sugar.

We’re not all taking your hard work for granted. Hopefully you still feel that some of us vaniacs are recognizing the effort and the dedication of the whole WLTV crew. We are forever indebted to all the thunderous inspiration you bring into our lives. Don’t give up on the minority who are loyal and appreciate all you have done, do, and hopefully will keep doing in the following episodes.

QOTD: I love chocolate…the dark stuff. I love chocolate cheese cake, dark chocolate with black coffee. (A coffee episode could be fun.)Aside from that, I’m not a big desert eater. I like sweets in limited quantity.

    Love y’all!

  227. December 16, 2008

    Benj

My favourite dessert has got to be either tiramisu or passion fruit creme brulee. The former is easier to get hold of but the latter is just diviiiiiiine and pairs so well with dessert rieslings you wouldn’t believe.

  228. December 16, 2008

    Fritz Steckler

My favorite desert has to be NY Cheesecake with a orange citris drizzle with a cup of freshly brewed Kona coffee!!!

A little homemade peach cobbler tonight…Tiramisu (actually like the one from Whole Foods)…Mom’s Apple pie…A good key lime pie…And this raspberry, blackberry with a custard like cream with a little wine blended in it this little Italian place makes…Holy cow it’s damn good.

I do great desserts like Randy Savage drops “Oh yeahs…” All day long.

GREAT show Gary! And nice job on Fox today with the sore throat and all.

  232. December 16, 2008

    HuskerJamie

Creme brulee is just fancy vanilla pudding, way overrated. I’d have to go with chocolate souffle, or just a couple squares of fancy euro chocolate.

  233. December 16, 2008

Fav dessert: Strawberry Shortcake… heavy on the strawberries.

Great episode GV. QOTD: I don’t have dessert that often but when I do: I love cheesecake, especially the really rich homemade ones. Put some sort of fresh fruit on top and I can’t stop eating it. Fav. topping- strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and sometimes just caramel on top does the trick.

I think I’m going to have to go out and find that Sauternes to have at Christmas.

Favorite dessert? As a kid I would have said a Gold Rush Sundae from Swenson’s. Now, I’d have to say either a chocolate lava cake or creme brulee.

  249. December 17, 2008

Great show Gary, I love dessert wines.

QOTD: Best dessert has to be Knickerbocker Grill’s chocolate souffle here in NYC… or maybe just some Varsano’s chocolate on West 4th st… I used to LOVE Mississippi Mud Pie from a restaurant long closed down, The Right Bank, but I’ve never had Mud Pie as good since they closed their doors about 12 years ago.

Our family use to make gingerbread houses all the time growing up, use to take down a case of winter beer, Harpoon Winter Warmer, as we made it instead of wine. Wine would have been an interesting twist. Liked how you threw in a blueberry wine, I’ve had a blueberry port that might have done better with the gingerbread. As for the question of the day, apple pie all the way.

  257. December 17, 2008

QOTD: I’m afraid I’ve never met a dessert I didn’t like, so picking just one favorite…
Probably absolute tops would be fresh fruit – not fresh from the grocery store, but the real deal.
This time of year, though, it would be whatever is currently being created in my kitchen.

As a matter of fact, I interrupted my baking for this comment. Now to catch up on the rest of the episodes I’ve missed while I finish a couple batches of seed cake cookies (then on to chocolate chews and winter bark- see what I mean about favorites?)

QOTD: Favorite dessert eh? that’s a toughy, depends on if it is summer or winter, or fall, and what I ate. Personally, a big ol slap of cheesecake with irish cream crust and chocolate makes my teeth smile…

Summer time, a gooey yummy lemon tart is effing awesome…sometimes in the fall one of those pear upside down tarts….with all the cinnimon and nutmeg and such…oh baby.

Very entertaining episode, Gary, but you got the pairings all wrong. With gingerbread, you want Hansel and Gretel Riesling Auslese. By itself, no Moscato d’Asti is better than 80, and ordinary mothball-scented biscotti rate the same. But as Italians (many of whom actually live in New Jersey) can tell you, the two together are 90+! If you use Lorna Sass’s recipe for whole wheat almond biscotti in her Whole Grains cookbook, 95 and up.

I had to laugh at Mari’s “but don’t do anything gimmicky like editing.” While I am sure that you do retakes for the times when you accidentally knock the wineglass on the floor in your free-range gestures, the “spilly-spill” and especially your struggles with the plastic gingerbread house packaging convinced me that you’ve got the only genuine reality show out there.

QOTD: Picture this….fresh out of the oven home made chocolate ship brownies with lucious walnuts and party-for-the-tastebuds vanilla ice cream on top….smothered in hershey syrup and washed down with a scrumptious 2005 Burgandy (wife and I visited Burgandy in Sept. 2008 and loved it).

QOTD: picking only one dessert as my favorite…BAH Impossible, but I’ll give it a go anyway! Keeping in mind the careful balance of flavor and texture…oh who am I kidding. I hate to be cliche, but what-the-heck I will anyway – my mom’s apple pie. Simply delicious, and impossible to duplicate; believe me I’ve tried. The tender, flaky crust with the still-warm from the oven apples – sweet yet still tangy. With a nice simple scoop of vanilla ice cream, it’s better than Norman Rockwell could paint it.

Also I thought I’d give a shout out to Mott – the unsung hero of WLTV. Keep up the great work (and great zooming)!

    Chateau_Plonk

I like simple, old school, french stuff like creme brulee and tart au citron. But I recently discovered a recipe for a super old fashioned mid west dessert called vinegar pie which is basically a lemon tart made with apple cider vinegar rather than lemon juice and sprinkled with cinnamon. Sounds kinda gross but is %*$&*# awesome! But just some fresh ripe fruit is good too. Or and old port or Pedro Jimenez Sherry.

  325. December 19, 2008

    Hello from the UK!

The Thunder Show rocks! Even if I can’t get hold of most of the wines here in Europe it’s inspirational to watch.

Suggestion: A Barolo blind tasting, and/or some value Nebbiolo-based wines (Gattinara etc.)

    Gary,
We like the Tomasello Rasberry wine much better than the blueberry (which I won’t even buy, ever). The Rasberry would have made a much better pairing with a gingerbread but it would have been best with a creme brulee.

I love creme brulee and tiramisu.

    Gary???? I am beyond worried……………

Go Tomasallo wines! Their Cranberry wine makes an awesome Cosmopolitan!
Challenging show – what goes with Gingerbread? man… milk? haha.

How about a breads and wine tasting? French, raisin cinnamon, Hawaiian sweet bread, and bread sticks from Domino’s. smile. haha.

How about a chef make 3 seafood appetizers – and you compare to whites.

How about a cigar and wine tasting (outdoors) show.

    How about a

Interesting episode; something I never would have thought of.
QOTD(answer): dutch apple pie from Linvilla Orchards in Delaware County, PA. with a top quality vanilla ice cream.

Gary, fun show, creme brulee can be great when it’s not like custard,Mcconnells vanilla bean ice cream out of Santa Barbara is easily the best I’ve had(our home-made with a White Mountain hand crank is a distant second)and my wife’s apple pie is not only a beautiful work of art but an orgy of butter, cinnamon and fresh green apples with a golden crust made from scratch. How about a show with a variety of potato chips such as Kettle Brand Spicy Tai and Backyard Barbaque or whatever. I very much enjoyed the Bordeaux segments, I could tell mister Rolland was a little threatend and intimidated.(as the great Ron Burgundy says “don’t try to act like your not impressed”)

Just came across your site by chance and watched this show. I saved this site to my Fav’s even before the show finished. Outstanding!!

Wow, I always wanted to try a Tokai but now I really might try a Sauterne first. Great show but what you should really compare this with is a self-baked ginger bread house. They retain more of their original tasty flavour.

    QOTD: Tiramisu

more knowledgeable and a big fan!!!

Hey Gary…first off I think you are totally CRAZY! in a good way of course. I have been watching you for a while, actually February of this year and this is my first comment. I love that you are incredibly knowledgeable of wines and I did want to you ask you a question. My favorite dessert is new york cheesecake…no frills plain new york cheesecake. I was wondering what is a wine that you would recommend for that. I just finished watching this episode and I know you love the CHateau Rabaud Promis but are there any others that you would pair with cheesecake? Thanks.

    joel kriske

    QOTD
favorite dessert is a small and very intense chocolate truffle (see vosges).

I’m too lazy to scroll through all the comments, but i’ve always thought plummy wines were a good compliment to ginger. More of an old world guy than new world but still, they all have their place. Anyone?

  364. January 7, 2009

    joel kriske

    For AM

I am not Gary, but I would say, any wine that tastes like it would be a good topping on the cheesecake would be a good wine to drink with it. Berries? Milk chocolate? What turns your crank?

    CBone

QOTD: My favorite dessert…I think it depends on the time of year, but I generally like pies. Key Lime in warm months, pecan pie with brandied whipped cream in cool months. Throw in some of grandma’s Christmas cookies, a derby pie, rice pudding, and I think I’ve got the dessert bases covered.

Nice idea for a show…. I had a feeling the Sauternes was going to take the crown. Of course I am biased because I love Sauternes. QOTD: Flourless chocolate cake paired with a 20 year port or better. Thats just heaven to me.

Isn’t Michele Chiarlo pronounced like “zucchini” with the “ch” having a k sound….more like “Mee-KEH-leh Kee-AHR-low”??

Can someone help me out with this one!!

nice idea for a programme…the sauternes are great most of the time, but why not try other sweet white wines like Jurançon?
favourite dessert : belgian chocolate mousse, what else for a Belgian? ;-) )
