QOTD: I have never had an Ice Wine, but I look forward to finding one so I can expand my palate.

I don’t generally go for ice wines, as they tend to be overly sweet and very expensive. I did enjoy the Bonny Doon Vin de Glacier, but that was years ago.

Rosenblum makes some great dessert wines, including a Late Harvest Viognier, the Rosie Rabbit Late Harvest Zinfandel, and my favorite is the Gallagher Reserve Black Muscat.

My best Icewine was a genuine Weegmüller Eiswein 1998 Riesling – extremly intense.

Mys guess is that tomorrows show is about port, that you seem to have missed out up to christmas.

    Keep it up….

QOTD: Just spent 4 days in Niagara-on-the-Lake and hit all the wineries. Palatine Ice Wine is by far the best and also a great price! They also have CabSauv Ice Wine!!! It’s $100 for 375ml, but excellent.

The only ice wine I have tried is Magnotta Vidal Ice Wine from the Niagara peninsula of Ontario, Canada. I have found it in 50ml bottles at around $10 per bottle, so I drink it in two portions each of just 25ml. At that price, you can’t guzzle the whole bottle in a single sitting. It is fabulous ice wine with pleasant sweetness balanced by good levels of acidity. The finish seems to last for several minutes. To enjoy this ice wine, I recommend taking tiny sips and just savoring it over a half hour or so.

I want to try other ice wines soon, most notably the Jackson-Triggs.

HEY- I just called Kiona (a day later) and thanked them for the “vivacious, decadent wine tasting experience” specifically on your behalf. I asked how many calls they received and she said 13 or 14… what? Slackers!!!

QOTD 1: Probably Konzelmann Vidal Icewine, especially for the price vs. overpriced Inniskillin.

QOTD 2: #600 Tomorrow + Christmas secret pack = “a vivacious, decadent wine tasting episode.” Can’t wait!

    QOTD:
Mission Hill (As Weston said, my favourite vineyard)

I dono what the show is going to be about. But since I started watching you again after about half a year, it might be the last one you do :-( Just to spite me.

I assume the Xmas pack for tomorrow. I am not a fan of Ice wines. I have tasted dozens and prefer the taste of botyritis in my dessert wines so Sauternes and Beerenauslases for me. Trockenbeerenauslese when I am feeling flush in the wallet. Don’t despair the Jets. They still had a great season and just fell flat in the last two games. I left a message for Kiona, hope many others did. Don’t quit at 600. You are still one of the most enjoyable blog on the internet.

Sorry about the green. new coach and 09 might be something to watch. Favre will need a walker, but his arm is still young. Favorite Ice Wine: Pillitteri, from Ontario Canada. Tasted the ‘04 vintage. yum..

One of my favorite ice wines is actually from a winery that is about 30 minutes from my house. The 2003 Ice Wine from French Creek Winery (now J. Maki winery: http://www.jmakiwinery.com) is one of my favorites. It also took a silver medal in the Vinalies Internationales in Paris. Yummy stuff! I really wish more Pennsylvania wineries would understand that trying to grow red varietals is mostly a waste of resources and that they should stick to what works for the region. Thumbs up for Vidal Blanc in PA!

My wife Anita says: Inniskillin Cabernet Franc is less sweet more flavorful and the BEST of the ice wines (that she has tried). We still have one bottle from 1995 in our cellar.

Merry Christmas from the hills of Canada eh!

    Anita and Dave

Where’s tomorrow’s show? Dave says Gary will be dressed as the grinch and review white zinfandels.

I haven’t had an Ice wine…..I don’t anticipate having any but to expand my palate and wine knowledge I will eventually have some…..I think your 600th show should be about what your favorite Jets are drinking over the holidays…

QOTD 1 : A 1996 Seppi Landmann Gewurtztraminer Vallée Noble, Selection de Grains Nobles Vin de Glace. Just drunk my last half bottle a few weeks ago , and it was just like coming from heaven…
QOTD 2 : Don’t know , but i am shure it will be as good , as all the other show’s , keep on going Gary U ROCK…

QOTD: Our favorite ice wine is manufactured in our home town (so we are a little prejudice). Three Sisters vineyards makes “Dahlonega Gold”.
Dahlonega Ga being the first site of gold discovery in the USA. The vineyards are in the mountains (yes there are mountains in Georgia, the Appalachian Trail starts here) It sells for $28. Pairs AWESOME with homemade biscottis (Gayle being Italian has perfected the Biscotti)

So, the correct answer to the 2nd question was “you’ll have to wait for the answer. . . .”

Gary: Good show. I have found the ice wines to be more sweeter than sauternes early in their lives. I like to drink the sauternes at 8 to 10 years after bottle date; sweetness starts to minimize. I don’t know if this happens the same with Ice Wine since i have not had one at 8 to 10 years and truthfully don’t know if they have the complexity to last that long. Any ideas?
QOTD: Inniskillin & Selaks unknown years.
QOTD: Group Tasting with all your staff that makes it happen for you.

    Gary -

QOTD: I have a recollection of trying a Bonny Doon Muscat Vin de Glaciere several years ago. Nice, fun, sweet and fruity.

QOTD: How bout a family show with all the Vaynerchuks sitting around the table tasting vino and enjoying life together!

  20. December 24, 2008

    Dave

Haven’t tried many, but Vidal is good. They are very sweet and truly dessert wines.

  21. December 23, 2008

Good QOTD I love when you try to make us think. You may do something funny like yellow tail and mad dog but I don’t think so. I would think something few have taste cahor or madirin or maybe something of the wall like calvados. No, I’ve got it the ultimate holiday drink, no not champagne… eggnog.
600 shows, it has been enjoyable but the personal price may be too high, this must come out of your family time, high price to pay. Thanks for all the fun, you do what your heart is asking.

  22. December 23, 2008

    J Crazy

QOTD: I don’t like sweet stuff.

Second QOTD: Special Guest, Santa and wines to go with Christmas trees.

  23. December 23, 2008

Love ice wine and have tried at least a half dozen. A number of Finger Lakes wineries make one using either vidal or riesling. Favorite was probably one from Chateau Ste Michelle.

I lived in Germany for a time, bought some nice bottle of Ice Wine, saved it until i got married and opened it with my honey. Despite it being…. not so good, my wife said she liked it, i wont mess around with ice wine again.

Its not over… there’s always next year when the Jets sign Cassell.

    Merry Christmas Everyone!

QOTD: Ice wine is too sweet for me, but I will try one just to expand my pallate!

I hope #600 will be the Vayniacs meeting Gary’s family again, including Lizzy, because that is what it’s all about. I met her while you both were in VA and she is absolutely adorable! I think the other Vayniacs want to meet her too, unless she is scared?! And truthfully I wouldn’t blame her…

    Happy Holidays to you Gary!
