LOVED this episode, Gary. If I could go back in time, I would have gone to culinary school…food and wine are very dear to me. Awesome guest, and great to see the food and wine pairing.

QOTD: I have never been to Boston, but if I get to go, I will visit one of Michael’s restaurants.

Great guest. Love to hear people talk about how they got into the food/wine world.

QOTD: lived in Boston for two years during my starving student phase so didn’t get to too many higher end spots. But Sorrentos always treated me well.

This is the best buddy movie of ‘09. Normal guys with abnormal expertise meet up and bond. I could have watched 2 hours of this one.

Never been to Boston. Long drive from Sonoma county, that’s right Zin country!

I had to stop the first time I started to watch this one as I thought Gary was going to talk all over the guest from the very beginning. I was glad I tried again as it was a decent episode.

The sound however blew big chunks!

Also how come you didn’t try the food parings? Just the fish and fennel. Next time have the kitchen bring things out as you move along, then it can still be hot, or at least steaming from the heat lamp hehe.

Gary where’s your check list for the show, forgetting a bucket until taping is under way. Come on dude we know you can be more organized than that. You need a little “to go” kit for road shows. Like having camping gear all packed and ready for spur of the moment weekends.

Thanks for continuing to fuel wine’s thunder.

Good show, Michael seems like a really cool guy. QOTD: haven’t been to Boston in a while, they were still working on the big dig, the last time I was there. But we went to a nice Italian restaurant on the North End, Mother Anna’s which was nice.

QOTD – never been to Boston and actually never heard of Schlow before.

Would love to see more shows with chefs.. Daniel Boulud, Wylie Dufresne.. or Gordon Ramsay would go down well haha

Great episode, what a nice guy Michael Schlow is. I’m definitely living in the wrong country.

Great show. Chef Mike seems like the nicest guy you could ever know. I’ve been to Boston 4 or 5 times over the last 10 years and I absolutely love it.

Gary, I gotta tell you, this show was like Kismit to me!!
First: I have been thinking a lot lately about getting back to Boston, and I actually went on line TODAY to start planning my next trip.
Second: I am from Fords, but all of my best friends lived in Edison, so I hung out there for most of my early years.
Third: I am a HUGE Cowboys fan!! (…not to mention a HUGE wine fan)
I would have given just about anything to be at that table with you guys.
I will definitely find my way to Via Matta when I get back to Boston. I am also a HUGE bolognese fan!!!!

Nice show! Awesome that the 2002 Bressan Pinot Nero worked out the way it did.

I would have liked to have known more about the pairing as well. While I don’t necessarily choose my wines in restaurants to pair perfectly with food (sometimes I just want to sit with a wine through many courses and so I have time to think and enjoy it), it would have been nice to have known what particular aspects of the ingredients in the food drew you to choose the varietals you did. Basically, more technical things about how the food and wine play together.

As Ed Sullivan would say, “a really fun, fun show.” I truly appreciate good cooks and one who has not forgotten their roots. Thank goodness he praised Bobby Flay since he is my culinary idol and all-around great guy.

My ONLY negative comment would be that it is really disconcerting to see “Not Available” on such great wines. I feel frustrated enough with work and life in general and then when I get the chance to try some great wines, you say “not available.” Sounds familiar from the women in my life. :)

QOTD: Unfortunately, I have never been to Boston. I took a business trip to Cambridge but did not stay long enough to try any restaurants. So my answer is “nicht.”

    Cheers!

QOTD: I live just outside of Boston but have not been to Chef Schlow’s restaurant. I hope to remedy that soon. However, my favorite restaurant in Boston in Troquet. Since I took Gary and Justin and Matt and Kristin and AJ there this past Saturday night, I’m wondering which Gary preferred.

Nice episode. Never been to Boston, so no favorite restaurants, but I’m a fan of the Bruins (from way back in the Bobby Orr days).

Good episode, very good guest and you are still getting better as an interviewer.

QOTD – Have yet to go to Boston so do not have a favorite there.

Forget Romo, even though a long time Cowboy fan, they have way too much growing to do as a team. He cannot cut it.

Fantastic guest, Gary. It’s great when you have such personable guests on the show. I thoroughly enjoyed this episode.

QOTD: I’ve never been to Boston, but hope to change that in the next year.

Yes, Tony Romo will win the big game! Great story on being a Cowboys fan!

I’ve only been to Boston once and did the touristy Legal Seafood dinner so I guess that’s my pick. Sorry.

My favorite restaurant…..easy! My daughter & Son-in-law’s house. Better than 5 Star, food service and wine! Hands down !!

Fun show… Chef Mike; Very personable; easy to understand his success!

All the wine sounds delicious too!

  20. January 28, 2009

    Jesse

Excellent post. I really want some wine and italian food now.

QOTD: Only been up there once. I recall liking this seafood place – cant recall the name near downtown.

I agree completely about doing everything you do with intention behind it, and effort. Life’s too short for halfway.

QOTD: When I get back to Boston I will let you know.

  22. January 28, 2009

    Kimberly

QOTD: Bin 26 Enoteca on St. Charles St. They have a great wine program and really great food! You should check it out for sure!

    Great show.
QOTD: In college we always used to go to the Pour House on Boylston. Certainly not fine dining, but still, killer food.
