QOTD: No coffee (too bitter, unless 50%-50% with cream), no red bull (hates it), no illegal drugs, just raw, unadulterated passion for family, wine, and bringing people together to discover new things. Cheers, Big G.

Really fun show, nice to learn about burgundy, a region I don’t get at all.

Nice show! First one I have watched in months (since October, sorry!). I am still amazed how he does it. I think it is all because of his loving wife (soon to be loving baby), brother and rest of his family. He does it all for them!

  • I have to step forward and say that this is one of the most important, epic, and valuable episodes in all of WLTV history. Gary, I commend you and thank you for it, as I always do. But this is quite a treat. Burgundy wines, red or white, from all of Burgundy’s little villages and treasureable parcels do not get half the love and attention that it deserves. Maybe Burgundy is France’s best kept secret and treasure. Gary has unveiled it again for us. QOTD: Here’s what you need to be GV: energy, energy, and more energy. Love, dedication, family, some wine wisdom, a lot from the Vayniacs, and a little bit of him. Oh! and of course.. Mott! See you all on the Thunder Cruise.

I would have to say this is one of my favourite episodes ever – partly because the guest was so knowledge and friendly, but also because I’ve visited Burgundy – love the place and love the wines.

    Excellent stuff!

  • First ever comments.

Awesome passion. Great ‘real’ views. Love the ‘old world’ love in. Being in the UK we get access to fab French wine. Shame the Euro is so strong at the moment.

Irony ‘Haute Cotes’ are better value than the ‘Cotes’, whereas ‘Haute’ Cuisine / Couture are more expensive. How’s that work!

Am still playing catch up with episodes.

The ‘archive’ is a great resource.

Love the old ‘how to’s’ (e.g. Ep 42 and Ep 111) Do they need updating?

BTW a local tourism org has invited me to a ‘wine appreciation evening’, with the chance to sample 100 wines (including champagnes) and the chance to meet producers including, Chateau Musar (Lebanon), Boschendal (South Africa), Hatch Mansfield (Burgundy, Chile and New Zealand) and two champagne houses.

Cost £5. Yes I did say £Five. Do you think I should go? LOL

Gary, you continue to interrupt your guests, you are not getting any better at this! Let them finish a sentence for crap sake!

    QOTD: Chutzpah!

I’m a big fan of Maconnais and am currently enjoying a $15 Chateau de Montrevost 05 Macon-Villages. The point you tried to make was that most Maconnais wines are un-oaked, so there’s none of the “bad” vanilla.

But that point was obscured by the nature of the dialog. I’m not Mott, but I’m linking this episode up to my web page. I’m an east coast guy and I teach in California. My students frequently complain about my rapid speech and verbal agression. This episode illustrates how guys who obviously respect each other talk.

That was a fun show – and I hope this guest makes a third appearance soon. Sounds like great wines.

QOTD – IMHO, because GV, at the core I think, is essentially Slavic in character – a sharp mix of dark passion and aggression without getting belligerent. Slavs have a deep love and abiding conviction in working hard for what they believe is right. That area of the world produced Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich – and both of those composers could not have come from anywhere else.

I enjoyed the show. The guest was very knowledgeable. Seemed to know a ton about the Cote de Nuits and the rest of Burgogne as well.

QOTD – If GV did not so actively profess his lack of experimentation, then I would say that there was chemical intervention that gave him the energy.

QOTD: I’m convinced GV loves life as much as he claims he does. His energy comes naturally (and from his parents).

When I think of the Daniel restaurants, I think of Howard Stern raving about them on his show. Recently he took friends/colleagues from his show. On the air, he shared how Robin selected an expensive wine for the meal. I’m curious which wine she selected.

Great episode. Man has a lot of passion for wine ( I sound like a broken record when I say that but cant help but point out the truth). I think Im as guilty as anyone at stocking up on the 05 Bordeauxs and not really paying much attention to other parts of france, like Burgandy. D’oh!!! Gotta change that. QOTD: Clearly, Gary is an alien with a energy force different than ours.
