2006 Montes Alpha Syrah, hands down so far, but I am a mad fan of all carmenere based vinos as well.

Love the episode – have been getting into Pinots recently so an opportune episode. Love the blind tasting, I think it makes the best show. Thanks

Hi Gary! How come you didn´t try the best pinot noir blend in the world. Is the Familia Schroeder Pinot Noir and Malbec and won the “Mondial du Pinot Noir 2008″ in Sierre, Switzerland, here is the link or you can google it: http://www.mondial-du-pinot-noir.com/images/news/1/11122008_pinotnoir.pdf
There was three wines with golden medal: one from France, other from Germany and the argentinean. Anyway, keep in mind for another time. Chears from Argentina!!

    That was great!

QOTD – Probably a past vintage of the Don Melcor… I know this might be boring, but those are nice wines.

I remember liking the Montes Alpha M and have had many whites and reds that I really enjoyed but I can’t decide “the best”.

    GV,

What’s up with pairing Pinot and game birds (squab, hen, pigeon)? I had to laugh because I can’t remember thinking of how I’d whip up some squab when I got home. Are you a game bird junkie? I think Pinot would go well with Chicken Stir Fry. Good show though, always entertaining.

    Awesome show.

QOTD: The wine slips my mind, but I had an organic Pinot from Chile that was pretty good. That is really the only wine that I know that I’ve had from Chile.

    More blinds please.

    Good to know about Sojourn
QOTD: Sadly, I just had a Chilean Pinot Noir – Tabali Pinot Noir Reserva Especial 2007 – $11.00, that I liked so little that it’s going back to the store.

Good show. I like the blind tasting format, sure.

QOTD: “The Best” depends on every person’s palate but very good wines from Chile I’ve had are: ‘Winemaker’s Lot Syrah’ from Casa Concha, and Carmenére from Casa Silva.

Love the blinds, keep them up.

QOTD: Haven’t found one I liked so far, but haven’t tried the Don Melchor or Clos. Mostly find the Carmenere that tends to be too “dusty” for my taste.

Great show. You convinced me. I want that Sojourn Pinot.

    Love the blind tastings!

Have never had a Chilean wine I would buy again, but I probably have always erred on the side of being too cheap.

What a fantastic show! I think you should do blind tasting Mondays to bookend your laid back Friday shows each and every week.

Is it possible that you got a bad bottle of that Jadot Burgundy? The metallic taste you mentioned seems rather unusual.

QOTD: I’ve not had a memorable Chilean wine yet, but I’ll be on the lookout for some Pinot Noirs from Chile in the near future.

QOTD: Marques de Casa Concha 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon

QOTD: Actually have had very few Chilean wines, less than a dozen I think. Of those my favorite was probably the Veramonte Primus, a carmenere and something blend if I recall.

REALLY enjoyed the blind tasting format Gary. Monthly feature perhaps?
VERY impressed with you calling #1 and #2 for what they were, Oregon and NZ.
    Thanks for this.

QOTD: Forget what I said before. The best chilenian wine I had until today (i confess I haven~t tried so many): Cuvée Alexandre Merlot 2004 (Casa Lapostolle).

Loved the blind pinot tasting. will have to do one with some friends. Of course I was hoping Oregon would come out on top, but it didn’t, and it didn’t come in last. We did a blind (my wife and I) 05 St. innocent (oregon) vs. 05 Rochioli (cali) both pinots. right off Oregon won. after about 5 hrs Cali opened up and was amazing. Glad to see the west coast taking it from the rest of the world.

Awesome job on the blinds…it is nice to see you sweat a little also….

I think the blind tasting is your best format. It really drives home what you say about how wines are price based on the label. It would be really interesting to do it with a guest. QTOD: Don’t have one for you.

    Way to Go Panthers!

I am disgusted with the ner do wells that think they are cool being in the top ten postings. Most of them do not even have the brains to post a real comment. All I can say is GET A LIFE LOSERS.
Gary, no need to tell Mott to zoom in / zoom out; I think he’s done this before. Gary, too bad the Jet’s had such a decent record; now you will have to wait at least two years before the Jets have any chance. Who wants to drink Pinot when it costs so much for a weak red/pink wine; I think a decent white would be a much better play with lighter seafood, etc.
    Smell it first. TR

The name of the cough drops you are referring to are: LUDEN’S.

QOTD: Love the blind-tastings–perhaps my most favorite format. Chilean wine fav is Casa Lapastolle. Haven’t had it in about a decade, but still my most favorite producer until something else comes along.

  24. February 16, 2009

-Why are the wine names coming up as Gary tastes them versus unveils them? That totally ruins the blind factor- previous episodes have revealed them as Gary does, and I hope that method continues for future blind episodes (which I hope you do a lot of!)

-Mott: Great job with the flashback!

-Sorry to see the Big Ass Glass was broken :(

QOTD: Only had a few, but the best so far (at only 7 bones) was the ‘06 Walnut Crest Cab

I really like the blind tasting format. It resulted in some real surprises. I have been a pinot lover for a long time and look for a few reasonably priced ones, which is not an easy task these days. Keep up the good work.
