LOVE the blind tastings!!! It’s great when a wine surprises you!

QOTD: Several Malbecs…will try the pinot and sauvignon blancs — thanks for the tip.

LOVE the blind format. Best Chilean wine was a Casa Lapostolle Cuvee Alexandre cabernet from the mid 1990’s.

Great show!! I’m still in love with the blind tasting format!

    @QOTD:
I think it was the 1999 Vinedo Chadwick or the 2001 Antiyal.

Burgundy got blasted? Louis Jadot? The QPR was wanting.

Odd episode. It was like watching someone chose a dog from the pound.

Your reference to Sideways, a 2004 movie,… give it a rest. It’s a crutch for you. Could it possibly be that pinot is a more interesting grape than merlot?

The main character, Miles, loves Rieslings. You love Rieslings. Have you been co-opted by what you blithely call ‘Hollywood’? Get a grip, GV. It is you who needs to explore.

    Gary:
A blind tasting is the purest form of wine review. You aren’t influenced by the label design, region, history or reputation of the vineyard. It’s purely your tastebuds telling the story. Please do more blind tastings. I’m transfixed to the monitor when you do, and that’s also when I learn the most about wine….great show….thanks.

Quite fond of the blind tastings, however I would like it if you would announce your scores while you taste.

I’ve had Chilean wine before, but not memorable enough to remember. I’ll try Pinot and Savignon Blanc now though.

Check that, it was not a 2005, but a 2006. Regardless, still bad, want no part of the 05 anyway.

I bought a bottle of 2005 Chevillon Chezeaux Nuits St Georges les St Julien Burgundy yesterday from Binny’s. It came recommended from their wine “Expert” on site. My price range for this recommendation fell between the 30 to 40 bone range. She came up with that.

To be honest, it was terrible, and tasted like a 9.99 burgundy from Trader Joe’s. Totally dissapointed, and am feeling burned.

QOTD: Best Chilean I’ve had to date? We did a Wine tasting dinner at work with one of our distributors in the chicagoland area. The winery in Chile was Valdavieso. Their “Solera” Caballos Loco or Crazy Horse was magnificent.

    Gary,

The blind tasting is the best format because it eliminates all pre-conceived notions. For example, there are times when you comment very positively about a wine but you don’t score it as high as your comments would seem to justify. I imagine it is because you expected even more from the wine based on its reputation. I am sure it works the other way too. Anyway, the blind format is fantasic, and I agree with the others who ask to eliminate those pop-ups that disclose the wine’s identity. The unveiling at the end would be much more dramatic that way.

As for Chilean wines, I have not been fortunate enough to have experienced any that were worth mentioning – but I will be looking for the 2006 Amayna Pinot Noir. Thanks for all you do.

I have had the jadot 06 pinot and agree completely it was not worth the gas i used to get to the wine shop. The 04 chardonnay was solid though.

The only chilean wine i have had was the santa rita 05 merlot pretty solid wine all together nice pepper component mixed with solid fruit.
