QOTD: My white white wine(Torrontes) has just warmed up and it’s really good. I’m feeling a little resistence to the concept of warm white wine, but I’m going to work with it.

Mr. Loweeel exposes himself to be the type unable to learn, or accept new systems and info. His unyielding attitude reminds me of nothing more than the pig headed ignorance of the previous administration

That’s got to be the silliest thing I’ve ever read.

Sorry, messed up my HTML tags, that was a quote of a previous post, by Murso

I have lots of respect for Loweeel not just cause I’m scared of his PSyronic power either.

and I still think this is weird:

Preparation 500 – Cow manure is buried in cow horns in the soil. The manure is then spread over the fields.
Preparation 501 – Ground quartz is buried in cow horns in the soil. The quartz is sprayed over the vines.
Preparation 502 – Yarrow flowers are fermented in a deer’s bladder, then applied to the compost.
Preparation 503 – Chamomille flowers are fermented in the soil, then applied to the compost.
Preparation 504 – Stinging nettle tea is applied to the compost.
Preparation 505 – Oak bark fermented in the skull of a domestic animal is applied to the compost.
Preparation 506 – Dandelion flowers fermented in cow mesentery is applied to the compost.
Preparation 507 – Valerian flower juice is applied to the compost.
Preparation 508 – Horsetail tea is applied to the vines.

  • What’s natural about adding crystals? About sacrificing a bull in the fields? About burying a cow’s horn in the fields after filling it with manure, then spraying it all over the crops? Burning a mouse and scattering its ashes?

How do any of those provide additional help beyond organic farming, coupled with sound farming common sense? It’s the mystical bullshit that makes BD the farce it is.

What is it about an arbitrary, mystical, out-of-thin-air creation of fire, earth, water days that makes any sense? About the sylphs and undines created from the proto-naziSteiner’s racist and febrile imagination?

What about placing grapes in a bin? About destemming? About racking or bottling wine? How are any of those natural?

All of these are HUMAN activities.

Couldn’t agree more Loweeel I think that winemaking is an artform, carefully developed over thousands of years by artists, not wind currents or fairy farts.

Today someone told a group of us that white white should be chilled. It was an informal wine class. I gasped. I’ve always preferred my whites at room temp. They are even too cold right from the wine storage unit, 55-60 F. I can’t pop and pour.

  • Excellent, excellent show. I had a great time visiting the Benziger winery, also biodynamic, in Sonoma a couple of years ago. They have a very good tour of the vineyard and winery there.

  • As a relatively new viewer, I think this has to be my favorite episode so far. Msr. Jolay’s passion is so evident and refreshing — not to mention actually quieting you, Gary! — I could watch him for days. I LOVE the expression on your face, Gary, you & Nicolas have some serious bonhomie goin’ on. Now on to Part 2!

  • Ah, I do love hearing from biodynamic winemakers. Have spoken with a few and am always pleased with the results of their work. You can’t argue with great results, no matter how odd sounding the methods.
