Pomerol – the handful I’ve had have been excellent, but they’re certainly not sub-$20 winners, usually you have to fork over $40 for a really solid effort. With the money, however, Pomerol or St. Emillion are usually on my priority list.

And American Idol – No Gary V singing, so who cares.

awesome show gary..I am a big big big bordeaux fan but pomerol is not one of my favs…Please try the 2005 rauzan segla i know its pricey but what a great wine it is..It is drinking really well now but will be even better in a few years..But I am still going to keep requesting you do a show on a patrick javillier and his white burgundys..especially the 2006 patrick javillier bourgogne blanc cuvee forgets, for 23 bones its a steal and affordable for many here..

QODA: beats me that show was good for a year or 2 but its getting old unlike the thunder show!!

QOTD 1: I’ve never had a Pomerol, but I’ll definitely have to try one in the future.

QOTD 2: I would say Danny Gokey.

Danny Gokey. I have never had a Pomerol.

Pomerol – heavy soils and moderate rain and moderate temperatures make excellent merlot based wines….I think Lil Rounds is gonna win yo’

just wondering gary, u know how u’re always excited when a bordeaux has like 5% cab franc as part of its composition, do many producers actually produce a 100% or predominantly cab franc wine or is that heresy? cheers from melbourne, australia.

    Hi Gary,

Pomerol has the reputation over St. Emilion, but I am not a right bank guy (probably because I am such a Cabernet Sauvignon fan compared to a Merlot fan).

Don’t have a clue on the Idol winner.

Just got back from an extended weekend trip with my wife Grace for our 25th anniversary, and preparing for the Thunder Cruise where we will be celebrating her 50th Birthday!!!! How about a “shout out”? I’ll look for you on the cruise to taste a glass together with my 50 year young wife.

    All the best,
    Karl B.

G, Thanks for letting us in to your home. I would love to repay the gesture some day. Sad to see that ‘01 go down in flames. Wine…what a finicky passion she is.

QOTD 1: I’ve had only a few Pomerols, those being the ‘05 Gazin and Clinet and both were very solid. I prefer merlot based wines (F Hollywood) as they seem to be more elegant, silky, and require less time to blossom. Sadly, because the area is so small, there’s less available bargains.

QOTD 2: The dark haired actor/rocker to win (Whom I picked immediately upon seeing his audition) and the glasses dude, Danny, placing 2nd. The Judges will use the power of veto on either one of these cats should one go down early. From a talent stanpoint, I think it’s pretty clear who has this thing…the rest of the shows are just marketing and advertising time.

i can always tell if you like a wine based on the faces you make when you taste it.

QOTD: i dont really know anything about Pomerol. and i’m not watching American Idol either.

“I AM NOT DRINKING ANY F_____G MERLOT!”

Pomerol or otherwise, now that I’ve had a few from various parts of the world, I see what Paul Giamatti meant!

Like it’s white counterpart, Chardonnay, I think Merlot is the “un-red” wine, a neutral, low-acid base for oak flavoring, offering at best(by itself)a one-dimensional flavor profile of unfocused dark, plum-like fruit and chocolate. And they all taste the same! The few palatable examples I’ve had, including Pomerol, owe their worth(if they haven’t been bludgeoned by new oak) to the Cab Sauv/Franc added for strength and flavor. The Merlot part is pure poseur!

QOTD: You’re my American Idol, Gary!

How about a video tour of your digs?
And a view of the contents of your private “cellar”?
    That would be cool.

    QOTD: Pomerol sounds interesting.
Only TV I watch is The Office and Friday Night Lights. Coach Taylor is the man.

Ivan Putski? The Polish Hammer! That name brings back some memories, WOW. Thanks for saying “dessert wine” again during the episode, because that’s what they’re for in my book…DESSERT. Hope you enjoy the BBQ, and I have a suggestion for a show, “What wines go with peanuts?”

QOTD: Pomerol is for ballers, I’m more like an Arnold Pomerol, “iced tea, lemonade and grape juice.”

Danny G. will be the next American Idol.

    1. Brand NEW to Pomerol! Now I need to go find some! I LOVE how they don’t have classifications. That makes me HAPPY!

    2. There is only one TRUE American Idol, and that’s Kelly Clarkson! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdxRS_GyBbM

    Sup GeeVee –

#1 – I haven’t had many Pomerol’s. I do like the 01/03/05 Segla and I have had some Lalande de Pomerols that have been really good values for the price point.

#2 – Gokey will take it all.

    Great episode Gary.

QOTD 1 Chateau La Clemence made me a believer. Otherwise, somewhat limited.

QOTD 2 Got to go with Adam Lambert. He’s strange, but what a voice. Will go with Allison & Danny as two and three.

I am anxious to see how the 2005 Pomerol wines in my cellar evolve. As far as the American Idol, the winner will be Danny Gokey if America has any balls.

It was good to see you mellowed out at home for a change; very relaxing, and the beautiful flowers in the background was a nice touch. At first I thought we might catch a rare glimpse of Lizzie; is she camera shy?

QOTD: Pomerol. continues to pump out quality juice. continues to climb away from me in price.

American Idol: Ruben Studdard…. wait… what year is it?

    Mr Beast

qotd1 – to new to have any opinion about Pomerol
qotd2 – Top 4 – Danny, Alexis, Matt or Adam – I pick Matt – I have to go with Michigan

  23. March 12, 2009

    Jason Harris

#1 – Never had it, and honestly probably too many others to try higher on the list that I’ll ever get there…

#2 – Adam Lambert (sp?) only because of the 13-year old girls.

    Hi Gary,

I love the way you improvise !

QOTD1: Thoughts on Pomerol: I love right bank Bordeaux in general. Typically I think you get better value for money, and I ve always enjoyed Merlot. (also, you can drink the Merlot based wines earlier than the Cabs)

QOTD2: I haven t got a clue who will wim Americain Idol

  25. March 12, 2009

    Kevin

QOTD: Pomerol is a personal favorite – I’m a huge fan. I had no idea they didn’t have classifications! I wish I could drink more – I’m often off in the ditch drinking Fronsac, and other less-posh appellations for affordability. Plus, they make good wine too, let’s be honest.

Winner of American Idol? No clue. Not a big TV guy.
