line of the day – ‘ I would like to have pig snout and ears with this wine’

Love Gary in this episode; he rolled with the negative feedback of the ‘College humor’ episode beautifully. As he says, you have to try different things, some will work, some won’t. Glad to see that he isn’t going to dwell on it at all. Back to his incisive, funny, super ‘on point’ self. Picking the ‘Suxx’ wine a masterstroke.

Comment of the day: Go Dodgers. (!)

LA, a little hometown action. Miss the streets, beach and warmth — been in SF for 8 yrs… speaking of hotels in LA, for a good budget play — MIDWEEK — check out the downtown Standard. Again, during-the-week, as weekend rooftop pops bottles and Jim Jones and miami vice. (Tho… nothing wrong with a little Jim Jones every now n then…)

Speaking of labels, Pillar Box Red is one the best around.
    Pop champagne.

Good show – I can understand people saying the College Humor show was poor, but that wasn’t your fault and it definitely doesn’t mean the show is over the hill.

    Keep up the good work!

I understand the disappointment from most fans about the last episode, but I just wanted you to know that I’ve really become a fan of the Thunder Show since I first found out about it when Sarah and Streeter were on (Yes, I am a hardcore College Humor guy). Gary, you’ve really sparked an interest in wine with me. Great show, keep it up!

Hi Gary, long time watcher, first time commenter. I have a question for you. I have a Ursa Vineyards 2005 Petite Sirah, Paso Robles blend. Have you reviewed this wine and when should I open it? Love the show!

  • Watch were you watching?

The flashes from the TV was really annoying. Please turn off the TV or tell us what’s on. Was it one of those features that doesn’t need audio?

Anyway I didn’t hear a thing you said because I kept wondering what was on TV.

So Gary… what was on the tube?

I enjoy the show but the hotel shoots are a little primative. Let’s keep the Mott-ster. He adds a lot of quality and the occasional second opinion,

I am glad you enjoyed the Suxx, I felt the same way about it. Its big and chewy yet not as hot as i thought it would be. Ringland alsoo make another Shiraz thats smoother and elegant. Great wine show. Yesterday’s show wasn’t bad just different and different can be fun.

Gary, this was a great show. Even the TV slow strobe lent a kind of random chaotic effect that fit on-the-road.

I learn from the shows and also from the comments. Comments from Australians really hit the mark. I travel to Australia frequently, and the wine I am offered most frequently is one of their excellent rieslings and not the high-alcohol fruit bombs. They make such wines mostly for export to the USA!

My suggestion for a future show: Txakoli, the great Basque aperitif.

  • Is Chris Ringland trying to break a record for the number of wines produced by one winemaker. Agreed about Dan, he is a marketing machine. I enjoyed the show.

I think I’m a little late on the commenting here but I just wanted to say even though the last episode has become sort of a fiasco I’m really impressed with how Gary handled everything. You can see he’s got his loyalty to his viewers and total respect for their point of view on the matter but he also gave mad props to Jake and Amir and didn’t back down from the excitement he had over having them on the show.
I was also around for the comments on jakeandamir.com and I thought it was cool that he made an appearance there and was such a chill guy replying to comments and disproving the completely unnecessary ‘douche bag’ title he seemed to be getting.
Unfortunately with the nature of each show and the nature of each shows viewers being totally unprepared for each other it was just like oil and water. On my side of things I love Jake and Amir and I also work in a wine store and I love wine so that was the most amazing thing I’d ever seen!
Anyway, this is getting too long but there are my thoughts.

Mad props to Gary for his attitude and you have definitely gained a viewer!

I have watched the college humor show several times now. I still do not see what all the negative feed back is about. I thought you were just with 2 guys who do not know anything about wine, which is fine not every one has your nose for smelling the subtleties of the wines, I sure don’t. Still a good show.

Another nice little flip cam episode, nice and simple. A nice change of pace.

  • Alcohol levels are getting rediculous. Like you say, sometimes that is what you want and if the wine is really that good, then it is simply part of the wine. Still, I am getting tired of wines creeping up in alcohol content. The STP at 15.5% and the Suxx at 15.9+!

Pretty soon you will only be able to get one sip of wine down without getting blasted.

  • Oh, an idea for the summer–great summer wines by the pool. Do an episode outside in the hot summer- chillin’ by the (hotel?) pool.

So when you go into another wine shop as a customer do they know who you are? Do you introduce yourself as a fellow retailer?

GV – good episode. This brings back memories. I used to travel a lot and I would always search out the local wine shops, purchase a bottle or 2 and go back to my hotel room and taste the wine while finishing up some work.
I am a huge Chris Ringland fan only because I purchased some of his Ebenezer wine that blew my doors off. It did not SUXX.
Don’t be too hard on yourself regarding the CH show, I did not like it, but then again that is an opinion and opinions are like #@%&*, everybody has one.

Good show – Molly Dooker’s been tearing it up recently. Another of their wines was top 10 2008 by Wine Spectator.

Gary, don’t get down about the previous show. For some of us Vayniacs, it just wasn’t our style. But to each his own. Please don’t take it personally. Don’t feel bad. Sometimes, it just doesn’t work. On the other hand, this was an EXCELLENT episode. I very much enjoyed it and it was reminiscent of why I started getting into WLTV in the first place. Kudos! Keep up the good work! And don’t be afraid to piss the majority off once in awhile. No harm in that at all.

I thought the episode with Jake and Amir was your best one yet. You're right, they are comical geniouses, and it takes someone other than a “wine snob” to realize that. GV pumps out a show a day and god forbid he wants to have one with a different, more fun format. Get over it. This show kicks ass.
