Nice tight show, GV. I generally agree with you that Cloudy Bay is fairly consistently well-made, but it doesn’t usually excite me, especially for the restaurant wine list price.

QOTD: I just had WL order me a case of 2007 Chateau Le Nerthe CDP Blanc because my wife and I had it in Vegas and it was outstanding. As for other summertime preferences, a nice Tavel (Rhone rosé) is always enjoyable.

Definitely will be drinking Michigan Rieslings and French Roses this spring and summer.

GV – I am really late in watching this show. Between Easter and a business trip, I have not had the time. Good show. I really like Kiwi SBs. Have been underwhelmed by the Cloudy Bay myself.

QOTD – Albarinos, Pinot Gris, and Sauv Blanc – my spring and summer wines.

QOTD. I’m, without a doubt, into Loire Chenins for these season. I found some great aged 2002’s and I’ll be going through those with pleasure!

QOTD: Can’t wait to open up some Fasoli Gino Liber garganega in the garden soon as spring finally gets here…Also some good Provence roses, more good Italian whites really, Verdicchio di Matelica, Marco Carpineti’s white ‘efforts’ from the Lazio region. But also Beaujolais, Morgons from Marcel Lapierre & Jean Foillard, some good Chinons, hold on, some rose from Reuilly and so much more…Godello from Spain, how about some of that great Naia from Rueda, definitely one of the finer Ruedas in MHO capital H.

This is a late comment, but I was surprised to hear you say that Cloudy Bay had an apple tasting note. I have always loved N.Z. Sauvignon Blancs from Marlborough such as Kim Crawford, Spy Valley, and even Nobilo, but to me the signature flavor has been gooseberries and passion fruit with good acid and a crisp finish. I tend to relate apples to Bordeaux Sauvignon Blancs. I guess I need to taste more.

Tight comment to match the show.

NZ Sauv Blancs are what really got me to start learning wine. They are great for a beginner’s nose because the are so in your face kinda wines that make it easy to pick up on all the many characteristics they have.

QOTD: Look forward to trying more odd blends in reds and whites.

Gary, I can’t believe you didn’t include Kim Crawford.

I’ve strayed from NZ Sauvignon Blancs, but this episode has put them on my radar again. I’ll try a few in the future.

I’m looking forward to learning more about Brunello. I’ve heard the buzz about 2004, and would like to know what they taste like.

Sauv blanc really helped get me into wine.. I remember loving the Isabel Estate the most, but now I get really bored with the grape variety.

p.s. I’m always too slow on the comments as I watch all the shows on my iPod – you need to start doing the comments 2 shows behind!

QOTD – For spring I will be drinking lots of Australian and German rieslings.

Really looking forward to trying as many different kinds of wines as possible. Now I walk through the store aisles looking for things I’ve never tried–it’s a lot of fun.

This Spring, I look forward to trying wine with meals, instead of just having a glass in the evening with no food, which is how I tend to roll. Don’t know much about wine but learning.

Great show, Gary. A New Zealand SVs was one of the first truly distinct wine experiences I ever had.

QOTD: excited to drink more of these, some lambrusco, sparkling shiraz, some good provence and spanish rose and so on.

Glad to see SB profiled, especially Cloudy Bay. I like the intense SB to the Chasing Venus sounds great.
QOTD: Looking forward to crisp Pinot Grigio for porch sitting this spring. The good stuff from Dolomite / Alto Adige region. For good QPR and pool parties the Barefoot PG has a bit of Symphony grape for aromatics. Come to think of it, need a few bottles of Ironstone Obession (Symphony) to break in the porch sitting season!

    QOTD:

J Russian River 2006 Pinot Noir

I saw this on the shelf at Safeway a few weeks ago; it’s a little more expensive than what I usually drink, but I was in the mood to try something new… maybe this is silly, but what won me over was the bottle, which really caught my eye – it’s blank except for a painted-on (not sticker) yellow “J”, which is my first initial.

I bought a bottle and brought it home, and was glad to find that it got pretty good reviews. I decide to save it for my birthday, which is coming up very soon, so I’m super excited to try this one! If I don’t like it, I still have a cool-looking bottle to reuse… and if it “rocks my socks off” then I’ll also have a visual reminder of drinking an awesome wine on my b-day.

QOTD: Tuscan Moon 2006 Cabernet from Trader Joes – $5.99 – it doesn’t strip the paint off my tongue like Two Buck Chuck does. In fact, its taste is very pleasing to me. Great cheapo wine.
