Classic! Why aren’t the Vayniaks getting to hear the sex of the Baby? I am boycotting the show until there is word. President Obama is bringing some class back the the office. Peace.

The best business deal you can make is to sign SV to a contract to do a WL2. I’d watch it everyday. In fact, I’m not sure I want to watch WL again unless he is on.

This is the new generation of those 2 guys in the balcony on the muppets.

Yo Gary, I usually lurk but I have to say that anytime you have a “camera glitch,” technically speaking, it’s an edit. So to say that you guys don’t edit isn’t entirely true. Happened in yesterday’s episode- and todays. Coincidence? Hopefully.

Always enjoy watching Sasha on the show.
He come at you from a different angle, and that is a good thing.
    Lotsa love in your family.
Will I try the Don Alfanso Cab? You betcha.

    Re the Obama thing.
I will give Obama the same respect that the opposition gave Bush for the last 8 years. Nothing more……….nothing less. And,
    I’ll drink to that.

Ahaha! This is the first episode I’ve seen with your dad…and man is he awesome! “You wanna tell what you smell on the wine, Dad? …No.”
“YOU DO NOT LOVE THIS WINE!!!” So many good quotes for today.

AND, while my crystal ball is still out, I also think we’re expecting a baby BOY Vaynerchuk! :)

Great to watch the dynamic between you both… Sasha adds much class!!!

Gary, I’m only a quarter of the way through this episode and it is beyond fantastic, it is hysterical. You and your father are quite a duo. You need to have him on more often, if he can make the time. My only critique would be that you needed to have this episode on yesterday, in anticipation of Passover, in case anyone wanted to come to the Library to purchase any of the wines you tasted. Sasha rules!

  29. April 8, 2009

    Neil

QOTD: I have no idea what Sasha was asking not to mention expresing political POV on a neutral site is always risky. This is a wine show for crying out loud.

On another front, I have looked at gefilte fish with disgust my whole life. I could never even think of eating those wired looking blobs floating in cloudy water.

I don’t know what it was but this kosher wine show wasn’t as kosher as it might have been.

Awwwww MAN – wonderful, wonderful, WONDERful show!
The few little father-son clashes made it that much more real and fulfilled. Plus, the baby, the coming baby, the la-dada-dada, all the awesome small talk… Great stuff! I don’t know how that talk at the end would make you lose viewers, but I guarantee the honesty of this episode is only strengthening the bond you’re building with your other viewers.

QOTD: I have NO idea – Tell us, Sasha, teach us!

So who is this guy anyway ;)

Awesome show! The best I’ve seen in a while. Not much wine talk, but entertaining none the less! It’s like a mini family feud! I can just imagine family get-togethers!

QOTD: Never talk about religion or politics in a wine show!
But, as Gary V. said, the can of worms was opened.

THE SYSTEM WILL EAT ITSELF! We are facing an identity crisis where not only America, but the world must look at itself in the mirror and re-think what values are important in this day and age. The old ones have failed us. We need a radical turn-around in the way we do things. This dog eat dog world vision is a thing of the past. We need a new paradigm, a shift in our political, economical and social philosophy. We need sustainable and practical practices that will ensure a future for people all over the globe to enjoy this opportunity at living an empowering and enriching existence.

Life implicates us whether we like it or not. What we can change is our perception of it and how our decisions are motivated. Gary and Sasha said it, “Perception is reality”.

Excellent show. By six minutes in I was laughing out loud. Always great to see Sasha make an appearance.
QOTD: I am of the belief that as long as the sun shines and the rain falls to help us grow food, drink, medicine, and shelter…that everything is all good. Everything else is not necessary (even WLTV, sorry GV). As far as the current situation the world is in regarding money, it is unfortunate that it is causing such pain for so many people. I have no idea when that will end.

Good to see your dad on the show. I am jealous. You guys have a much different relationship than I have with my father. But the frankness of you to interacting is priceless, and real.

QOTD – We are headed in the right direction. We have all made great strides to reduce our debt. However, the actions of the current administration while bold will be very expensive. You can’t pay for all of this through taxes. Inflation lurks in the shadows like the oak monster, threatening to bring back the days of double-digit interest rates. What would that do to the economy as it struugles to get back on track?

    Happy Passover.

  49. April 8, 2009

    Mike Pos

Tired of people agreeing on these comments that you support a President no matter what. Sorry, but that is how you get people in power like Hitler and Mussolini. People in power need to held in check and scrutinized. That is the AMERICAN way. That is what makes this country GREAT.

This was no doubt my favorite episode of all time, I never laughed so much.

Sorry I couldn’t quite tell who your dad was dissing. He does interrupt about as much as you do, though.
qotd: A very good question. Thank God Obama was elected and has the intelligence to help clean up the mess that was left him. Like you,GV, he’s very much into community.
    Happy Passover!

Sasha = wonderfully irrasible: you two as a pair, unreprecatable. Delightful, I don’t know if I’ve enjoyed an episode as much as this one.

QOTD: Not sure that I fully understand the question but I’m just so happy to have a president who cspeak in complete sentences.

I really enjoy seeing you and your father interact. The world would be a better place if all families had your love.

QOTD. I can’t support a person who doesn’t have the best interest of the country at heart.

  56. April 8, 2009

    Jacob L.

Great show. Having double V’s brings double the thunder, even if the wines did not. SV was totally right about that baby having matza ball cheeks.

QOTD: The country has been so out of balance for so long, its going to take a while for us to find our center again, even if the stimulus works out in the end. Remember, the future will have to pay for it.

  57. April 8, 2009

Wow. When are u guys gonna take that act on the road. You’re dad was
awesome. Has his own way of looking at and judging a wine and it makes sense.

Ah yes, another great ep with Big Papa Sash!!!

Loved the show GV. You and your dad are so very passionate. I can only imagine what your family dinners are like. The one thing that we HAVENT seen is Liz and your mother. Lets get the female side on the show some time. It can be just like every other reality TV show.

QOTD: I do believe we should respect the office of the President always. I do not approve of how Obama/Congress is spending my money. I don’t believe in hand outs and the “right” to so many services that the government is attempting to provide to us. Let us not forget that every last dime the government spends comes from our pockets. Yes, there must be limited government to provide certain facets of our lives, but we must fulfill our duties as AMERICANS. Get up and make the best of our lives. We are in the midst of some very tough times. Act happy to be happy whether you like it or not. Love your friends and family. Watch WLTV daily.

Thanks again for a great show.

That was the #1 WLTV episode IMHO. Sasha was the star. It’s great to see GV put in his place once in a while. GV if you don’t reveal that Portugese wine that Sasha fell in love with, you are a nerd.

The show was great. I can’t answer the QOTD because GV tried to censor it and got me confused.

Happy Eater everyone. Whether you are celebrating Easter or Passover, enjoy some great wine!

Great father son relationship, sasha no bs, love it!!!Best show of the year!!! I wish Ihad that type of relationship with my dad!!! Who cares about the wine, family first. Great show… loved it. Great entertainment. ROFL. You should really do more of these.
I think we have the right to disagree and strive for something better.

QOTD: Feb 2010 for the News networks to stop calling it a crisis ;-)

  76. April 8, 2009

    Butch

You two are wonderful. The respect you show your Dad and the love that you both share is something many of us could use as an example.

As to the politics of the country. Hmmmm…As a 62 year old Father who is enjoying the same banter you have with his Son who is home for is predeployment leave, I struggle to be objective. This is my 24 year olds 4th visit to the “sandbox” as we call it trying to be clever and I want to believe my President will support my Son ans his Team Mates. Sadly I don’t think he will. He and his people seem more centered on providing entitlements and socializing our banking and production industries. None of this will help the economy and Sasha’s grandchild will be buried in debt the day he is born.

  77. April 8, 2009

    manonthemoon

Always love it when Sasha makes an appearance, he knocked it out of the park. You should try and get him on a little more often.

QOTD: And away we go on a rant. For one I don’t really believe that government involvement in our everyday lives is a good thing. I know I personally work as a contractor in an agency in DC and these people take 5 people to do the work of what one motivated competent person (ie a contractor)could get done. There is no way that giving the government more power and control of financial systems will end well IMO. I believe in capitalism as it leads people who are intellegent, motivated, and hard working to benifit from the system and if the company you work for makes bad decisions it should fail. I wouldn’t get a bailout if I made horrible decisions that were doomed to fail and neither should big buisness. I hope the plans that have been put into place will work since that would only benefit us all, but as others have pointed out I feel that inflation is going to start to rise and that will be a mess. I will also agree with Sasha that there are enormous oppourtunities out there right now if you have the cash to make it happen. As warren Buffett said “Be skeptical when the market is bullish and be bullish when the market is skeptical”. And on the final point of critisizing the President I refer to Thomas Jefferson who said “a little rebellion now and then is a good thing” and that being able to voice your oppinion is what being American is all about.

  78. April 8, 2009

    Tenacious E

I have to go with Sasha on this one, there is nothing wrong with a nice light red wine once in awhile, maybe something you can put a bit of a chill on and drink out of water glasses Godfather-style. You don’t have to have thunder in every single bottle.

Except for Beaujolais nouveau. That stuff sucks.

As for President Obama, finally we have a Chief Exec who can make it through a complete sentence. If only he hadn’t had such a godawful mess to inherit … but as far as that goes, we’ll get through it and over it. We’re Americans, it’s what we do.

  79. April 8, 2009

    Bobby Bo

This is why my brother and I cant get together on video, way too much energy on screen at once. Loved the episode, just like being back in NJ.

QOTD: A bit too heavy for the thunder show, but if we keep our heads down, work hard, work together… it aint a crisis at all. PS My self and all my Army Vet buddies think we have the best prez’ in a long time. If he can bring my boys home, Ill support him till the end.

  82. April 8, 2009

    Vintage59

HeadLines: Sasha steals the show!!!!!, The critics gives 2 thumbs up, when Gary and Sasha are on stage they bring the house down!!!. I score this a 99+, damn near perfection!!!!

  83. April 8, 2009

    Steak Monster

Well, almost expected an exchange of blows there.
But I might have to agree with Sasha, I’d get
happy buying a $5 wine. CKCs!

QoTD – I am all for supporting any president elected
but if something does go terribly wrong, we need to
install a giant reset button in the middle of the
States that 51% of the population must stand on to
    activate.

Great episode Gary, I love it when your father is on. I’m a little disappointed by today’s wine selections, especially considering how well the Daniel Rogov kosher wines episode went.

To quote you from the comments reading part of the show:
“I’m not quite sure gomestar, I can’t put a stat on it, it’s not what I do” — Fortunately I am a statistician!! I’ll keep an eye on it as I continue to watch more old episodes and I will let you what I find.

QOTD- Sasha, I love you man, and I really appreciate when you’re on Gary’s show. That said, I’ll respect the *office* of the presidency, but I don’t have to like the policies of the occupant of that office.

That’s all I’m going to say on a “Blog du Vin,” at least.

Definitely best to keep the politics off WLTV, it ain’t good for business :-) Gary I know you tried, you really did (g)

Big ups Gary. I think a lot of people would feel very vulnerable being on video with their dad, especially someone they are in business with, but you represented well.

Your dad was great too. His “I love and support my son but I’m not crazy about him” style is awesome. It’s real in a way that we all know personally.

  93. April 8, 2009

    Suzanne

Sasha’s great…..why doesn’t he have his own show yet??

  94. April 8, 2009

    Omar L.

Wow !!!! Gary this was the funniest show, I laughed the whole time.
Your Father remains me of my Father that he is blah about everything and the discussion about the wine. Me and my father fight about the wine too,
so funny that we are not the only ones.

PS. I have no problem with the show being what ever long. Make it an hour long don’t care, I will watched all with a glass on VINO.

  95. April 8, 2009

    J dubs

    simply awesome show.
QOTD: who care’s how long as it takes as long as we keep it real with our families like the Vaynerchuk clan does everything else will fall in place. Your love for your family is always inspiring… that’s a lucky kid coming along soon.

    Hey Gary,

I’ve been a “lurker” for a long time and I just had to comment on today’s show. I thought this was my favorite episode in a long time, you and and your Dad are an awesome team. I talked to my Dad on the phone as soon as the show was over. As you say, family is everything. Good luck with the baby!

    Shasha Rooocks!!!

awesome show! I really liked how he put things in perspective. GV said that the wine sucks, it is terrible, and then Shasha jumped in and said, what do you mean terrible??? would you not drink it ever??? same thing about the second wine (the argument had me in tears btw…). It is the difference of perspective between a person that has been through some very tough times, and is content with little simple things, and the difference between someone that had not been through so much hardship. No disrespect GV, I am not calling you spoiled, but I agree with Shasha on this one.

  99. April 8, 2009

Sasha is the man! No other guest on winelibrarytv dominates like Sasha.

QOTD classic question: Sasha is still better looking than Gary.
QOTD today: One more year is my best guess with positive signs pointing for a recovery by the end of the year. The American economy has too many positives to keep it down for long. Stop freaking out people.

  100. April 8, 2009

    gotsha

GV…You should get your old man on the show more often. It’s quite entertaining to see you guys go at it. QOTD…WTF??, I couldn’t understand the question. Yes, I support the President.

  101. April 8, 2009

    Couves

I’d love to know what Portuguese wine your dad was raving about. I love Portuguese reds with the Touriga Nacional grape – it gives unique and complex aromas of herbs and flowers.

QOTD: The economy would recover faster if it wasn’t for Hoover and FDR (oops, make that Bush and Obama) messing with it.

  102. April 8, 2009

Gary-your dad MUST be a semi regular or give him a spin off! We want more Sasha!

  103. April 8, 2009

    Another classic thanks to Sasha!
I happen to agree with him on the Don Alfonso. Who says you can’t drink cab sauv in the summer? Or drink white wines all winter, for that matter? So it’s light and basic. For $5.49?! Perfect for a get together where your focus is on the people with you, not the wine. I so loved that whole argument! :D

I also wanted to give him a hug when he talked about his Mom. We’re moving my Mom in with us at the end of this month- it’s very hard to see them becoming more frail…

QOTD: I’m hoping in the next 3-5 years, but it’ll take accepting some uncomfortable changes and a lot less whining and complaining to get there!

  104. April 8, 2009

    Dale Cruse

This is my FAVORITE episode of Wine Library TV in a LONG time! I LOL’ed more times in this episode than maybe ever before! Sasha is a terrific guest and I wish you’d have him on more often!

What a great show one of the best I have ever watched on wltv..Your pop is the man you have to have him on your show more often. Its a wonderful thing to see the great relationship you have with your dad. Happy passover to you and your family, keep bringing the thunder gary you got me hooked…

Qotd: I will always support our president it would be un-american not to do so

  106. April 8, 2009

We love seeing your Dad, Gary and really love how much you love him. You should have him join you on a regular basis

  107. April 8, 2009

    Mr Cook

Great show. Nothing beats family, as you know and preach so often. It is a privilage for the Vaynernation to witness the love you have and share with your family. I hope everyone pays close attention. Life is precious. I am 37 and I lost my mother four years ago to cancer. She was only in her 50’s. You just never know. God bless GV.

  108. April 8, 2009

    Gobi

I must say this was the BEST episode EVER! Sasha Vaynerchuk rocked the house! I think he’s right, his blog would have higher ratings. Funniest show to date.

QOTD: Politics is just… depressing for me….in my region (latin america)… were every new goverment (in almost 90% of the countries)promises to do something but end up leaving office filthy rich and exonerated from all crimes they have committed. Somtimes I think people in the US dont see how their political system (although constrained to certain flaws) is not affected by these nepotistic and self serving politics that plauge developing countries.

  109. April 8, 2009

    Doc P

Sasha is the greatest! I loved his interaction with you. I loved my dad also, and he loved me like Sasha loves you. You are a fortunate man, GV.
And tell your dad that there is nothing like grandchildren. When she (or he) calls you Zayda for the first time, with that sweet smile, your heart melts

We had the Yogev Cab/Merlot at th seder tonight. Nice, smooth, just a touch sweet. Not real complex, but had good fruit.

Sasha should be on once a week. He keeps you real :)

  110. April 8, 2009

Gary, top two episodes are with your dad! Once i saw his face i knew it was going to be good, and i love the politics because you can tell he loves his freedom. He came to America for a reason and he feels obligated to state his philosophy. He loves his country and is deeply concerned about this CRISIS!! Its not a bad thing…

You two remind me of my pops and I.

    Bring him back haha

  113. April 8, 2009

Are you kidding me…? AWESOME SHOW!!!

Too bad he wasn’t born in this country… with his charisma, he could run for Prez, no problem…

QOTD: We need to SPEND our way out… PEEPS, buy MORE WINE!!!

  114. April 8, 2009

    Jeff

Your dad is a trip. Have a happy holiday.
Two quick points. First, I am pretty adventurous when it comes to food but I cannot stand gefilte fish. Granted, I’ve never tried homemade but the stuff in the food I can’t even look at much less eat.

The other funny point was, the fact that I sneezed at almost the exact time Mott sneezed. You said “Bless you” and I took a double take. Very strange.

QOTD: The recovery will begin as soon as the media stops telling us how bad things are every ten minutes.

  115. April 8, 2009

    Yvettew

This was an awesome episode!!! Loved it from the minute it started to its last second – your dad has to be a regular on this show, it was fantastic!

Leave it to your Dad to break it down for you, G:

You: “What is Gefilte fish? What’s in this?”

Your Pops: “It’s fish, and it’s Gefilte.”

    Hilarious.

Finally, someone who will stand up to Gary! I loved it! And it goes to show how one’s trash is another’s treasure.

  124. April 8, 2009

    Chris in Tulsa

You have a very cool dad! The kind of dude to just have fun and BS with but also a very wise guy to learn from.

QOTD: Times are worst than they have been but think the media is making it seem worst sometimes with all the doom and gloom headlines. It’s a recession, America and the world made it through a depression in the past then the biggest war the world had ever seen happen. They called those people The Greatest Generation. Let’s suck it up a little and quite being babys!

  125. April 8, 2009

    Too long? I Strongly disagree.
Holy cow, if you have your dad on the show more often you two are going to kill each other on live tv. Still a fantastic and enjoyable episode. Love your dad.

I’m Jewish and we watched this episode during Passover drinking wine I bought from Wine Library.

PS About 18 minutes in I swear I saw an edit cut.

I wish I stayed at the store to watch it…..Happy Holidays to you and the family Ida

Sasha is like a big South American black cat – graceful but scary. He’s what we call a “Dinosaur” here in Tennessee, and that’s not an age insult. It’s a compliment!! The point is, in all honesty, few men like Sasha exist anymore.

As we speak, I’m putting the wine glass down and going for a shot of Vodka.

Good interaction between you and your father. The wine definately took second place.

QOTD. The issue isn’t when this economy will get better, Its global and seems to be based on a house of cards you can prop it up and hope it does not fall down or keep on building it up and hope it does not fall down.

GV, My favorite show of all-time. The back and forth between you and your dad was awesome. I agree that we do need to support our president no matter who you voted for. QOTD:I believe that we will come out of this recession as soon as we start taking care of our business and not everyones around the world.

    LMAO!!

Sasha is such a great guest. More blind tastings and more Sasha! I don’t think I’ve said it before, but as a software developer, I get to work with some Belarusians from Minsk. I don’t get to talk to them very often though because as I’m waking up, they are leaving work.

QOTD: I think it will end when investors start realizing that it is now their market out there and they can make a killing if they would get over their perceived fears and inject some capital.

“Gary, you ignorant slut!” I see it now, Point/Counterpoint with Sasha and Gary. You can learn much, Grasshopper, at the knee of the master. And your Dad is right, ‘you sneeze, it’s true.’ Old saying.
QOTD: I agree with Sasha to some extent that you need to support the President, but I also believe that dissent is healthy, all American.

  145. April 9, 2009

OH WOW! I don’t think I’ve EVER laughed OUT LOUD at one of these episodes, but this was something special…. I could not stop laughing, especially at the part when you two went at it over the $5 cab.

Priceless. This is by far the single best ep ever.

Who knows what the Q of the day is… economic crisis? Bah. I just love your dad. Can I come over and eat some crackers with him?! Please!!??

(Oh, and PS, it was cool to see your dad get under your skin with the politics stuff. You could tell you were legitimately freaking out. Even better. That’s reality. :)

    Hey Gary,

First comment! I really thought this episode was great, best ever possibly? Loved your dad, loved the bickering over wines, it made me feel like I was with my family in some weird way. Incredibly entertaining, please dont hesitate to have him on again. Most of your guests don’t act completely “normal” persay on your show, but your dad, he was just loose and I loved the dynamic.

    Keep up the great work!

  151. April 9, 2009

    Hey Gary,
Absolutely amazing show! It was fun, it was fresh, but most of all it was real. Familia es la mĂ¡s importante, siempre. (Family is the most important, always) Like the thunder, like the energy from WLTV but I love the interaction and humble theme of the show with your dad. It was fun to see where you get your hand gestures and mannerisms and its clear that you admire your father. Salud!

You guys are very entertaining – funny stuff. I love my family, but don’t know if I could work with them – professionally. Must make for some interesting times.

I love that your dad is a Devils fan and that he almost dropped an “F” bomb when you mentioned how bad they’ve been playing. Tell him their going to be fine in the playoffs when it counts.
I lost my dad a few years ago and I loved seeing your father-son interaction similar to what my father and I had.
I also totally get where your dad was coming from on the $5 dollar wine, in his defense. I mean it was $5.49!!
Keep rocking the shows. I even enjoyed the college humor guys that you took some heat on, but your dad made this episode my favorite to date.

  161. April 9, 2009

    Tayabunny

Great show. My dad and I have a similar rapport. Sometimes we agree to disagree, but always love and respect eachother.

I appreciate the candor about the cab being weak. When you choose a cab, you don’t expect it to be watery. Its fine if you do know ahead of time and go looking for this particular one – for summer drinking, right Daddy V.?, but maybe it would fall short when paired with an entree you’d normally put a cab with. In that case it’d be a disappointment. I’m sure that’s basically the point you were tryin to make.

QOTD: I’m hoping things start to turn the corner by the end of summer, early fall – but we won’t be back in the black again for at least 5 years in terms of investing, maybe more.

Fantastic Show. This was the funniest show that i have watched. I agree that you should support the President, but that is not to say that you can’t be critical of certain policies and actions by the President. I hope that President Obama is successful in the two wars we are currently in and the that the economy improves under his term, even though i did not vote for him. (Dirty Little Secret: Presidents do not have any control over the economy since it is so vast and ever changing.)

QTOD: I think that the economy will be heading back up in a strong way in the last quarter of the year.

Gary and Sasha, great show! The real-life father-son interaction is so poignant. I bought a bottle of the Don Alsonso cab (at Ian’s suggestion) and will settle your argument at our second-night seder.

QOTD — the turnaround is starting already, but it will be spotty, not a smooth ride at all.

    My own QOTD:
Sasha, what is that Portugese wine that blew you away? Tell us AFTER you’ve cornered the market for WL.

  182. April 9, 2009

    Blake G

Fantastic episode. I was laughing out loud when Gary’s dad would stick it to him: eating before he should, drinking before he should, emptying his glass on the floor, dissing the “sniffy sniff”, arguing over Alfonso… just awesome. Best guest EVER. He should be Gary’s permanent sidekick.

    Quote of the Day:
    Gary: “Pretty good nose.”
    Sasha: “We’ll see.”

Haven’t seen pops on b/f but totally enjoyed the banter. Your dad is priceless–brings a classic old-school view.

Love the show. Keep doing what you do!

Loved the show–loved watching the interplay between Gary and Sasha! Great stuff. You are very lucky. At this Passover time I definitely miss having parents, my father having passed away in 2006 and my mother in 1980. I never got to have my daughter and my parents together ever at a holiday. But I am so so lucky to have her. Wishing you a very happy Passover!

Loved this episode. The antics of Gary and Sasha should make for a great future comedy team. It was hilarious just watching your dad eat through the entire episode until you pulled the plate away. Then he pouted. Bad Gary!
As for the wines, I have yet to find a decent Kosher wine, although I must confess I have not looked very hard.

QOTD: I think we are at the beginning of this crisis and although we see some light, I fear it is just a reflection of what’s to come.

  190. April 9, 2009

    Bill The Wrist Watch Freak

GV, thank you so much for the Kosher Wine episodes. Loved this one – nice to see some of the less-available brands (at least here in Ohio). We had a 2006 Herzon Cab for First Night – wasn’t too bad!

QOTD: Buckle in – your taxes are about to show you how much you “bailed out” all of these companies.

  191. April 9, 2009

    jigger

corked bottles of wine – 1 in every 350
GV dropping a kiss on Sasha – 1 every 9.15 minutes
Sasha going to the headslap – 1 every 13.73 minutes
Sasha as a guest on WLTV – priceless (I mean that, I have “no hidden interest” in getting my comment read in saying that whatsoever.)

QOTD: The same beautiful democratic process that allows for us to elect a representative leader in our President divides our country along political lines after election. I agree with Sasha. The election is over – support our President.

  192. April 9, 2009

    jigger

Forgot to finish my thought on the QOTD – support, non-partisan support, is the only way to get a sound fiscal policy into place going forward to lift us out of this crisis.

I love the interplay between you and your dad. You should have him on your show more often. You guys play off each other well. Makes the show extra entertaining.

    Gary -
Incredibly funny episode. I have not seen past episodes that have had your dad so this was my first encounter. Gosh, he interrupted you – good for him. The dialogue about the Don Alfonso – great – you couldn’t even script somethig like that. He sure puts you in your place – nice to see.

I am not a kosher wine fan, therefore the wines meant little to me although I would have to say the episode was one of the better ones.

QTD – I’m guessing you will see some improvement in the key factors late this year with continual improvement in 2010. Ohio (Cleveland), which is where I reside, seems to always be about 6 months behind any curve unfortunately and we ave been hit very hard so a complete rebound will be difficult to come by.

HA!! Gary your dad is so old school! Give wine to the baby — awesome!

QOTD(1&2): Support the pres yes – but freedom of speech is the only way our system can work, and probably wont be for a couple of yrs yet before the downturn turns.

  198. April 9, 2009

QOTD: No end in sight, but I do think current policies (both parties) will help by next year. All we can do is keep plowing forward.

I loved this show. Not perfect by any means, but fun and honest. Gary did we hear you call the baby “he” to your dad or is that a generic he?

  200. April 9, 2009

    Kai

Fabulous episode! That kind of comedy can’t be scripted. I almost fell out of my chair laughing. I know everyone wants to know what that mystery Portuguese wine is, but after Sasha’s opinion of the Alfonso do we really want to know?

Gary, I didn’t see the other episodes with dad, but from this one it’s pretty clear where you get your “interrupting” skills.

QOTD: The economy will start getting better when we all stop worrying about it!

  201. April 9, 2009

    VioletRuby

Never seen an episode of WLTV with your dad before! I loved him as a guest! The dynamic between you two is too funny. He’s more subtle than you, but just as spunky when he needs to be. I see his point in the $5 wine. For 5 bones, you can’t expect to be blown away. If there’s some elements of palatability, there’s probably a time and place for it, even if it’s crappy as a true Cabernet. Keep on truckin’ Gary.

Most entertaining episode you’ve done in awhile. I LOVE your dad! Please bring him back when you have better wines to argue about . . . and let him talk more next time, okay?

You and your dad absolutely crack me up. The banter between you two is like I had with my dad who I always think about at Passover. Can’t say that I have had any of the wines but I bought several of the previous episode kosher wines to have for this year.
This, for me is the worst financial crisis I have seen since I have been and adult. Not a depression certainly as I remember my parents and in laws talk about the depression but certainly worse than early to mid ’70’s. Let’s call it a repression.

Very entertaining show. As someone who lost his beloved father at a young age, I can really appreciate it. QOTD: Unfortunately, with all of the good efforts to stimulate the economy (President Obama is trying to do the right thing with the stimulus), the international economic problems are far more profound than many people understand. The stock market will dip again in a big way and, more importantly, unemployment will continue to grow for many, many months.

QOTD: I hope soon….by the end of the year.

    Abbe Faria

This was an absolute CLASSIC. I loved that Sasha had the bigger glass.
Funny, but the dynamics between the two remind me so much of me and my dad…

QOTD: It depends where in the world. In the US it looks like the recovery is starting already. In Argentina, where I live, people are predicting a recovery by mid 2010 if we´re lucky.
And Sasha, we want you back on the show sooner next time!

    Hi Gary,
I didn’t know where to ask this, can I get your opinion on Monte Majone Toscana 2003, was told it is about 70% sangiovese and rest grapes from France to give it depth. I tried it and it was nice,
I just don’t know if I am getting my money’s worth. It is around 16 dollars a bottle (750ml).

    Your opinion is greatly appreciated!!!

OMG; it’s been said “that was the best show ever” this was! Unbeatable. Sasha is the only one that can interrupt you Gary and the only one that you can’t get away with interrupting!

perception is bullshit, but this show was fck’n hilarious. sebastion was cute. the cabernet banter was priceless. you should have sasha review a wine with you at least once a week. i kinda agree with both of you guys. it is a wine that one could drink easily on a carefree weekend, but at the same time, why would I want a cabernet that tastes anything remotely similar to a beaujolais? bytheway, i would totally watch sasha’s political blog. “mott, you can take you shirt off”

Great familiar episode GV. The thundershow would even greater if you would travel around the world, with your dad, visiting the best wine makers, i`m convinced about it… Greets from Argentina.

Thanks for the Dad episode. It reminded me of my (passed away) Dad, they could have been brothers. Priceless.

QOTD: I didn’t vote for either candidate (gave my political money to Ron Paul). Would love President’s plan to do well – as I’ll do well in it’s wake if it happens. Economic future prediction: bottom in late Summer – Early Fall. Slow clawing back. Will depend mainly on future decisions, hence no way but to guess when real recovery will occur. Key will be Obama’s decisions in Winter of 2009/2010.

  220. April 9, 2009

    MattieJ

I am sorry Mr. Vaynerchuk, but my Pens are taking down your Devils in the first round… Nothing personal, we’re just better :-)

QotD: Not sure when it will “end”, but I think it’ll start to turn around Q3 of 09.

As for supporting the President… I’m sorry, but if I do not agree with his policies I simply cannot back him just because he beat my horse. It is different than supporting our military, because they do not make the decisions, they simply follow orders issued by the President to protect us. That is why they deserve our unwavering support.

I do pray that the decisions he makes are best for the country even if I do not agree. Part of a democracy is the ability to disagree, and I’m taking every chance I get :-)

OMG – that show was SO awesome – I haven’t enjoyed an episode so much in a long time!!! BEST GUEST EVER. Nothing personal Jancis…

I didn’t know you guys were Jewish – Pesach Shalom!

QOTD: I am guardedly optimistic that the turnaround is staring domestically right now at a macro level. Unfortunately, the improvements will take a while to hit everyday people, much as the downturn did. And other countries will be behind us on the way up, just as they were on the way down.

  228. April 9, 2009

    Eric Z.

I’m glad that every WLTV episode doesn’t have this much tension, but this is easily one of the best. Loved it.

QOTD: No idea when the economy will improve, but I think it’s a great time for individual lives to improve — when the easy jobs, the low-hanging fruit, are gone, people have to figure out what they love and what they do best and go for that, and that’s an exciting thing, even if it’s scary as well.

Great episode. It’s great that across the board, no matter how “big” you get, your dad is still going to think you’re an idiot when you don’t agree with him.

QOTD- as a small business owner I’ve been blessed with continued (albeit diminished) profitability during this crisis, and I’ve got my fingers crossed that things will improve in the next 6-12 months. In the meantime I’m taking my GMAT and applying to business school in case it doesn’t. If I’m going to be starving, at least I’ll be a starving student.

    Christopher Scoggin

This show was beyond awesome. The love between you two is very obvious and it was good to see someone keeping GV on his toes. I can’t remember anyone else being able to do it.

QOTD: The QOTD got a bit muddled but from what I got…
I think he is doing as well as can be expected considering the situation he inherited.
I believe that we must support our president but at the same time what makes this a free and open society is that we do NOT have to always agree and we not only are free to voice our discontent but it is (or should be) encouraged. I know I voiced mine plenty in the last eight years and I am sure the Fox News crowd will do so for at least the next four (hopefully eight.)
As to the current economic issues, I think the worst and most evident is already peaked and starting to get better. The bigger concern is going to be the long term fight back out of the crushing debt needed to correct the original problems. We will be paying for this for a LONG LONG time.

    P.S.
Was that an edit? There was a weird ‘glitch’ just before the Galil.

  235. April 9, 2009

    Alex from Montreal

Awesome Episode Gary V. Sasha brings serious thunder. I think he brings a more human side of wine tasting. If it is undrinkable its terrible, if its palatable and you can see that it can serve a purpose its ok, and if there are some exceptional qualities like this Portuguese wine that he keeps talking about … well its excellent.

As for the QOTD … I am completely with Sasha, we should definitely support the president for the four years he is in office, and if you don’t like him, vote someone else in. That’s the way democracy should work. As for the recession … it might last a little longer because of those toxic securities that the government is trying to discard and sell off. It is also disappointing to see that the bail out package went into the pockets of the CEO’s of the major banks. I all but hope that the united states government can sort this out and turn this around.

    Bathus -- Amateur Wine Philosopher

    Great show!

Hey, it takes most guys half a lifetime–or longer, if ever– to work out the deal with their dad. You’ll soon see how much the world looks different through a father’s eyes. A man needs respect. A father needs love. If he knows he’s getting those two things, he can handle anything. The great thing about having children is how they connect together the generations. When you have your own kid, you’ll start to remember lots of things you had forgotten about your own childhood, and you’ll start to really understand what it was like for your father to raise you.

I can tell your dad is “old school”: You work hard, and you try to make a good life for your family. And, oh, by the way, you don’t ever, never, ever, talk down the merchandise! You sell it for what it’s worth ($4.95 is a nice price for that wine!), and if people don’t like it, if they got fancier tastes, they don’t have to buy it!

QOTD: I’m guessing your dad likes BHO about as much as he would like a sharp stick in the eye. He’s from the time when, as long as you are not trying to get me thrown in jail for my opinion, people could disagree about politics, and still be great friends and do business together. So he does respect Obama, and so do I. I respect the process that elected him, the office he holds, and the tough job he’s got. I try to give him the benefit of the doubt. Trouble is, I don’t know if the folks on the other side feel the same about me these days. They talk about “diverisity,” except they don’t like diversity of opinion. If I disagree with them, they think I must be evil. If I want to decide for myself how to spend the money I earn, they think I must be selfish. They talk about “tolerance,” but if you disagree with them, you stand to lose your job or at least get sent to sensitivity training. Cut to the chase: Obama was not elected King. I’ll support him when I think he’s right, and oppose him when I think he’s wrong.

  238. April 9, 2009

    AaronB

Great episode! I can’t remember the last time I actually laughed out loud watching WLTV. Sasha needs to be on more often.

QOTD: I have to agree with GV (and many viewers) that WLTV is not the place for political discussion. On the plus side, however, it could definitely inflate the comment count.

That being said, here’s my two cents. Like CC_HTown and Exdamyankee said, I think we should respect the OFFICE of the president, even if we think the man (or woman) sitting there is a complete moron (hell, we haven’t had a decent president since Reagan). Like Sasha said, if we don’t like him, we can vote him out (or at least try). I don’t have to respect the president himself, and the great thing about this country is that I have the freedom to express my displeasure.

I couldn’t disagree more with chadd’s view that dissent is un-American. This country was founded by people who disagreed with their ruler and fought for something better. Dissent is at the core of Americanism, and the founders brilliantly crafted the Bill of Rights to ensure that it remains so forever (or at least until America becomes dominated by pansies so used to giving up freedoms to the government that the amendments in the Bill of Rights are eventually repealed).

Back to the original question, I don’t see Obama’s socialist policies having much of a positive influence on the economy. History has shown that the government is far more incompetent at running businesses than is private industry under a free market, so nationalization of banks and other private industries is not the answer. Taxing the successful to give handouts to the unsuccessful may result in short-term gains as the latter rush out to spend their new-found money; however, you’re just giving money to people who have already demonstrated that they can’t manage their money in the first place. In the end, they’ll just contribute to the looming credit crunch, while inflation runs rampant. The economy isn’t likely to recover any time soon, unless the government wises up and gets the hell out of the way.

Whew! That was a long rant for someone who doesn’t talk much. Sorry about that!

Now I know where you get the potty-mouth from….and I like how he’s a consumate salesperson trying to hustle product…

QOTD: Don’t get me going…our country was built on Capitalism and Free Markets, this move towards Socialism is extremely scary, if it takes hold all of our ability to succeed beyond our wildest dreams will be limited. Individual success should be applauded not discouraged and disrespected.

Crisis mostly over 12-18+ months out, recovery starting in 6-9 months.

Loved the show. Really is ALL about family. The wine took a back seat in this episode and that is what makes wine great. It can be the center of a conversation or just a great reason to bring people together to talk about anything. Truly the most social of spirits.

    Jamie Sanford

Best Episode of 2009…so far. The family love, people stopping by, cute baby, just incredibly enjoyable.

Also like that SV appears to think that GV is full of it. :) This makes me want to go do a video blog with my dad immediately.

  257. April 9, 2009

    Wine-on-the-Way

I like to think that this economic crisis may open peoples’ minds up to try wines that are a good value and still delicious! 2006 Louis Martini Cabernet Sauvignon (from Sonoma no less!) for $12 anyone?

  258. April 9, 2009

    Mark H

One of the best episodes ever. You two feed off each other so well. It would be nice to see your dad stop by more often. Today is the perfect example that everyone has their own taste for wine.

QOTD: I think the economy could go either way right now but I do see it starting to find its feet again. I agree with your dad that some people will build out of this economy to create something big. You and your dad show what is best about this country, that anyone can do something great with a little hustle.

    Keep Crushing it!

  259. April 9, 2009

    Biznas

Loved this show. Has your Dad been a guest like this before? Can you have Mot link that up? Give Sasha his own category in the past episode page. That for your time Gary, keep on keepin on

  260. April 9, 2009

I want to know what that Portuguese wine is that Sasha was talking about. Mot, link it up!!!

Oy Vey! I get to meet the infamous Mr. Sasha V. Great show, but as a mench as they say, I have to ask what makes Kosher wine Kosher?

I’m down with Obama, voted for him, and support him. I tried but could not support W in the least, quite the opposite, although I agree with Mr. V’s point of view.

Fantastic episode, Gary. Sasha, you were awesome!

QOTD: I agree that this is not the place for a political discussion, so I will remain non-partisan and leave it at this: I do not believe it is our obligation to unconditionally support ANY president, especially if they want to turn the country into something it was never intended to be. The last handful of presidents, democrat and republican alike, have grown the government to astonishing new levels and given it an ever-increasing level of control that directly transgresses what the founding fathers had created and intended this great country to be.

As for the economy, I don’t know how long it will take to recover, but the chances are we will be well into a recovery before we ever realize it or can definitively say we are in a recovery.

  265. April 9, 2009

    Jay

Gary your dad is awesome – he’s also the perfect foil to your show character.
He seems like the type of fellow who would never say anything bad about a wine he sells, because if he -really- didn’t like it, he wouldn’t have bought it in the first place. But now that it’s on his shelves, he is all about making the sale. Very neat, traditional old world salesman personality.

The show was sort of all over the place, but still enjoyable to watch. :)

  266. April 9, 2009

    Aaron Weissman

What a great family episode!!! Sasha rules!

A Ziessen Pesach to you and your family!

Forget the college crew or whatever they were called; when it comes to hilarity you and your father win hands down.

Love the father and son interaction – that really is how it should be.

Completely forgot about the wines during the show but this will certainly go down as a classic.

….and I think you mentioned the sex of your baby when you were discussing your father being a grandad…mmmmm

  268. April 9, 2009

Ditch: Yeah I caught that “him” comment too ;)

    Hi Gary,

I’ve been a lurker for quite some time, but feel compelled to respond to your two-part show with Nicolas Joly.

Nearly all of your shows are great – entertaining and educational – but the two shows with Joly took your project to another level entirely. You’ve raised the conversation to a high (almost spiritual!!) level, without compromising your commitment to accessibility and entertainment.

Those episodes showed us that there are kindred spirits with the “vayniacs” who have been in the wine world forever – humble caretakers of the land – but whose presence gets overshadowed by the stereotypical “wine snob” image that has been propagated for far too long.

Congratulations, and keep up the wonderful work!

  274. April 9, 2009

    Sarah

I loved your dad on the show! You two are hilarious together! You should have him on more often!

  275. April 9, 2009

    Jason S.

Great show – fun to watch you guys bicker, it’s hilarious!

    QOTD: 3Q 2010.

GV – I think you gave away the sex of your baby during the show if you listen carefully.

  276. April 9, 2009

    Julie

G-Man, glad you developed your amazing palate! Sasha is very easily pleased, which is sweet but… got to find that Portuguese wine! That made a big impression and we all love those WOW wine moments.

    Tchilds

Pure gold. This episode truly warmed my heart. So many classic moments, where to begin?

“Sniffy Sniff? What is that? BULLSHIT.”

Your father is a complete, 100% BADASS. And I agree with those who remarked upon Sasha rocking a Bond villian-esque look, though I detect a little Steve McQueen in there, too.

  280. April 9, 2009

Hi GV and Sasha….The show with both of you is great. Love WLTV,,,,

TGIT! Enjoying a glass of screw-capped Carneros chardonnay 2007 unfiltered Saintsbury. Yum.So was the light pasta, veal and salad. The show made me nervous. Family can do that. But… we love you and your family. Congrats on the book deal. These are the good old days for sure. Happy Passover.

talk about disfunctional relationships. Just goes to show that no matter how much we love our parents, they drive us crazy and visa versa

Great show Gary! When I was there today and asked Sasha to recommend a good bottle of Chilean red he handed me a bottle of the Don Alfonso Cabernet that you had reviewed last night. I’m on your dad’s side on this one. I prefer a lighter red as a table wine and this is just what I had in mind and the price! If I’m going to cut back this is the way to go for me.

  286. April 9, 2009

    Aaron Tewalt

Probably the funniest episode I have seen yet. I couldn’t stop laughing at you two. I loved it.

  287. April 9, 2009

    Drew Matich

Love this show with your dad, Gary. About halfway through the show and sharing the laughter between the two of you, I got a little melancholy as I realized that 10 years ago today, my dad passed away.

Enjoy moments like these and squeeze them for all they’re worth.

  288. April 9, 2009

    Richard Ritter

    Gary,
    Lets go to the draft.
Your dad rocks, and it’s like looking into the future when you both sit side by side. It’s truly special when he’s on, you’ll remember these times forever.

    Happy Passover.

  289. April 9, 2009

    Melissa

Hi Gary, I love your dad! I want to drink wine with you guys! :-)

You should definitely have him on the show more often!

QOTD: I’m an optimistic, but I truly believe that the economy will spring back in a couple of years.

  290. April 9, 2009

    David Martin

Gefilte fish is made of carp, pike and whitefish. My grandmother used to make this years ago. She used to grind the fish herself.
My mother always pulls out the Malaga for the Seder, but lately she has added some Kosher for Passover Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays.

QOTD: Unfortunately, I think Obama is out of his league. He is my President and I hope he is successful for the sake of our nation (and the world too, as everyone depends on us). I think the economy will not turn around for the next 1 1/2 years. We can always drown our sorrow in $5.49 Don Alfonso!

    Next year in Jerusalem!

  291. April 9, 2009

    GerryV

    Brilliant!
The banter and camaraderie between father and son was for me, priceless. A great episode that was more fun than Disneyland. It’s all about family.

Looking forward to San Diego this weekend Gary!

QOTD: Spring or summer of 2010 God willing. And I believe that is optimistic. I also agree with other posts that the media is fueling the fire here.

  292. April 9, 2009

    Kirk (aka: slave2thevine)

Took a little time to get to watch this…it’s always great to see Sasha on the show. I think that we may find ourselves out of this economic crisis sometime around 2012-2013…

Sasha is always the best guest! He puts Gary in his place ;)

Gary, I see and hear a lot of Sasha in you! I also LOVE how he has no bones about putting you in your place!! I love you Gary, but I like to see someone pushing back. GREAT stuff, love to see you both bicker.

Gary did not give away the sex, but I know its a girl in my gut!!

Last but not least, the economy will turn around, and I wish more people would plan for this type of thing instead of trying to “keep up with the Jones’” and living their life will all the new expensive things that they really don’t need. Life is about your relationships and striving to be the best person you can be, not money and how much of it you have or don’t have!

  295. April 9, 2009

    TROC

Intense debate over a $5 wine, now that was good entertainment. Sasha’s is the Man! Go Daddy Go! And speak your political views anytime. There’s truly nothing more interesting than watching a man with hard earned character speaking his mind, now that’s Gravitas!

  296. April 9, 2009

    BrandonP

Your dad is the only one that can seem to talk over you. He seems like a fun guy and it look slike you guys have an awesome relationship. I enjoyed the kosher wine debate it sounds like the wines were a little disappointing.

  297. April 9, 2009

    C-Lo

GV! This is what I’m talking about! You take on a completely different persona when Sasha is on the show and it is so fun to watch. I think you should have other family members on the show; it reflects well on you.

On another note, I finally realized that your dad reminds me a LOT of an ex-boyfriend…is that weird?

QOTD: I need this crisis to turnaround soon – graduating with a Master’s in a month won’t mean much if I can’t get a job…

    Keep it real.

  298. April 9, 2009

Saturdays or Sundays with Sasha! Make it happen Gary…

    That would be awesome!

    Awesome episode guys- Sasha’s badass.
This is the first episode I’ve seen him at length in, and I’m surprised how no-frills, matter-of-fact he is, with you as a son!

Good father and son banter, and I enjoyed imagining your nice, big family enjoying great Kosher wines and eating great old-fashioned food for Passover.

QOTD: It’ll end when it ends- we’re still America.

Wow, by far the best episode in awhile. Sasha brings so much to the show, he should be on way more often. I really enjoyed seeing you and he get it on.. Good good quality stuff..

Great father-son discourse. What a treat to have your father on the show. Maybe next time you guys could eat lunch before the show! Haha. I am curious as to what wines Sasha V. likes to drink.

  312. April 10, 2009

    I enjoyed the loving banter.

I understand what it means when a wine is ‘ok’.

QOTD: I’m a fan of our President. We’re suffering in this economy. My husband lost his job. The kids struggle understanding the situation. We’re hopeful. Things will get better.

WOW, you know I’ve never actually laughed out loud at a show before. Co-workers are starting to look.

AMAZING show, it’s cool to see you even more “real” than ever. I’m really at a loss for words. One of my favorite shows, actually I think this is my favorite show of all time. I agree with some of the others that Sasha needs to be on the show a LOT more!

Keep em’ coming GV! I really hope Sasha is on the Thunder Cruise, would love to meet him.

  316. April 10, 2009

    Wyo Tim

Fun show. Keep doing what you are doing. I love your mix of formats, even if there is a klinker now and then. Keep pushing the envelope.

QOTD: Only Sasha could ask that so eloquently. It would have come of as self-serving from any other guest.
    I’m with ya Sasha

By far the best episode yet. Your dad has this aura about him that makes the banter between the two of you very enjoyable. It reminds me a lot of how my dad and I converse. Happy Pesach!

  327. April 10, 2009

    Chad

I had the Galil Yiron with our Passover seder. I liked it a lot and thought it stood up really well with the brisket and salmon, both really fatty. The other kosher wines we had were more like the Alfonso – too thin. I may try them again, but not with such a hearty meal.

  328. April 10, 2009

    Manuel Varela

Outstanding episode! I like the patriarch of the family! A sincere man! Gary you should make your father your co-anchor! Its fun when you involve some family and personal life into the show!
Good chemistry/energy!! Great to see some family Love!

Also I enjoyed the food pairing on the side! Would be interesting if you could always recommend some food with the particular wine.

During the conclusion, your father was very diplomatic and positive about our president! I commend him for that!Thats what we need in America! Positive attitude!

Thanks for keeping your show entertaining and different every time!

Gary! Azog says: “Don’t listen to the other commenters. Keep interrupting your guests. Its part of your personality and the personality of your show and what separates you from becoming Oprah Winfrey.”

Azog also says: “Darth Vayner and Azog need to arm wrestle”

Your dad should have his own political show. Wonderful episode, Gary.

Loved the show! What a wonderful father son relationship to see. My mother was from Brazil and I love the passionate banter between you two. Reminded me of my family, my husband used to think my family fought all the time until he realized it was just passion.

You should have him on the show at least annually!

QOTD: don’t know, hope it will get better before the government ruins it.

Qotd. 1. Obama is incredible and has done no wrong in my eyes. He has played every ball that has come at him perfectly. he is my political saviour.

Qodt 2. The economic crisis in some areas is starting to lift now, in other areas has not sunk in. The market index will start to lift overall in 18 months.

    Peter Klein

    GREAT EPISODE!

Economic situation in US is at least 2-3 years away from really stabilizing, given the massive 1st time in US history ‘collision of so many important planets’; and when we do see 2 consecutive Quarters of positive GDP growth (even if only +0.1%) then still expect 2-3 Quarters of increasing unemployment!
My POV: 5-7 years before US gets back to about 80% of where it was economically…
BUT, remember, there are still 91.5% of Americans who ARE working and doing their best to help drive the turnaround…
which hits every 8-12+ years relatively predictably

  340. April 10, 2009

    Sasha is the man!
Straight-forward, business oriented, objective and no sniff-sniff preliminaries.

  341. April 10, 2009

ALWAYS a good time when Sasha makes an appearance on the Thunder Show! I truly admire the relationship that you have with your father, G. AND I got quite a few laughs out of Sasha’s stubbornness!

QOTD: Realistically we will start seeing solid economic growth in early to mid 2011, but I hope that the turn happens in late 2010.

  342. April 11, 2009

    Mick Wainman

My first time checking in on the post…and I skipped backward to see this one. Great fun. My first time seeing Sasha too, so a nice treat to see where it all began. (and now a grand kid on the way)

I’m glad he gave you a little shit too! For crying out loud, it’s his palate and god dammit, if he thinks the Chilean is a good Summer wine – it’s a good summer wine – gotta practice what you preach.

As we all know, the best wine…is the wine in your hand.

    Cheers and happy holidays!

    Glen....winecrazy.com

That was great!!!!! You guys were like two old Jews doing a Passover comedy show or something going back like that. And eating Matzoh and Gefilte fish and drinking cheap wine….lol That was funny!!

I’m going to do a spoof on that show when you have your next contest.

Sasha is THE BEST! I love your Father!! Happy Passover Sasha!!!

QOTD: I think that Obama has his hands full. He sold eveyone on the “Change” thing and he knew he could’nt change anything…well, at least not this year. It’s a shame he’s been caught in so many lies from his campaining days. I’ll tell ya what….I didn’t vote for him but really, what choice did you have? So he’s in…..and we just have to wait and see right! The thing I don’t like about him is, he pauses too long before answering a question, and 9 times out of 10 he never answers it in the end anyway.

And you are right Sasha…. CASH is KING. If I was GV I’d be buying up apartment complex’s and shopping centers. In 10 years you’re going to say… I should have bought real estate in 2009. Hell, I know he’s got some money stashed away….he flies coach…I mean really….who does $50 mill a year in sales and flies coach??? lol

I love ya Homey….Just bustin on my Homeboy….Ya know, that’s how I roll. And my main man Sasha. You guys rock!!

Great Great Great episode your interaction with your father is awesome. Reminds me of my conversations with my father. More Sasha please…….and as for the QOTD : I feel it’s going to get worse before it gets better. I like the random qotd by the way about politics.

I laughed out loud several times on this one. I don’t remember the last time I did that with a network or cable TV show.

    Sebastian is a mensch!!

One time a friend of mine met my dad, and afterwards she said, “David, Now I know why you are the way you are.” Same with this episode.

QOTD: I’m worried that it’s never going to come back the way it was. Which may be a good thing, because we are burning through our natural resources way too fast and we only have a finite amount of oil left. Slow down, sustain for our kids and for the new Gary Vaynerchuk Jrs. and Sebastians of the world.

(I forgot the) QOTD: I think it will be at least five or six more years before things turn around. I think over the next two or three things will get much worse and force a much-needed restructuring of the world economy, especially the US’s part.

  350. April 11, 2009

    Jim in Atlanta

One of the best episodes. The two of you could be a comedy team. QOTD – I think the economy will recover faster and better than the experts are predicting. At least I hope so.

It doesn’t get any better than this, Sasha + Gary ! For a follow up show, how about if Sasha selects the wine for tasting and please include the Portugese wine that Sahsha enjoyed so much.
QOTD: In this time of economic crisis, yes our President needs our support, also Wall St. and the much and wrongly maligned hedge funds could use a superlative PR firm to get the word out about all the liquidity these institutions give to the economy.

I rarely post, but I have to say that this was my favorite program of all time. While Pops is nowhere near the “common man,” it’s nice to hear a different voice than Gary’s who wasn’t afraid to disagree with him. On the heels of the cork vs screw top debate, it’s a breath of fresh air.

While it was a very funny program, it brought back the many debates I had with my Dad. He died in 2003; when Gary kissed Sascha at the end of the program and let him know how much he loved his father, I wished I had ended all of my arguments with my father that way.

QOTD: The President can’t do it all on his own, he needs help from all of us, but I’d still vote for him today.

  355. April 11, 2009

    David Cole

I agree with Gary, Dad needs to start a video blog on politics! I think he is funny, yet serious and has enough experience that people would watch!

QOTD: Early 2010 are economy turns around! I hope folks have learned their leasson about spending everything they make! As well as using equity from their homes to live off!

  356. April 11, 2009

    Riddler

Fantastic episode, Gary!! Loved the interaction with Sasha! Your family’s immigrant success story is an inspiring one and I hope you write a little about it in your upcoming books.

QOTD: While I think we’ll see incremental improvements in the economy over the next 18 to 24 months, I think we’re five years away from getting back to what people describe as “normal.”

  357. April 11, 2009

    DAveA

Kosher – I thought that was the course salt ya used with pretzels?

Sasha doesn’t like winelibraryTV? hahahaha. Go dad! How nice a family you have, Gary! very cool. I had a great uncle like him… wonderful pain in the butt to love person. hahahaha. and… my dad has no idea what I do for a living, it’s too high tech for him to understand. but I still love my dad .

He was very right on the light Cab – it’s not the grape, that makes for a summer wine, it’s the way the vintner finishes it. It’s all about the palate. We had a wine tasting with four same grapes, and it was amazing how different the tastes are, based on what the end result the vintner wanted.

QOTD: Presidents come and go. Democrats and Republicans come and go. I support who is president. period. The economy will not be fixed by government. period. The economy will be recovered from bank idiots and CEO dunces by 2011. Obama may get credit, but it will be the people, not his administration. Come on, how long we been doing this – can’t ya tell? smile.

Oh my God!I busted a gut watching this episode. Dad has got chutzpah!

Devils have struggled, but they can still bust it up in the playoffs.

QOTD: Jury is still out, I didn’t vote for him and oppose most of his stances. But I will support him as the commander in chief.

    Lior

    Hello,

First I appologize I didn’t read all the previous comments so I hope I’m not repeating/recycling anything.

The Barkan and the Yiron are not in their optimal drinking ages, in my humble opinion. The Barkan, as most Israeli whites, is not meant for cellaring three years post-vintage. Although many wines will last this long – the vast majority will show significantly less than on youth.

The Yiron is one of my favourite Israeli reds – but this one needs time. The winery is now selling the 2001 and 2002 vintages (the newest on the market is the 05). Both are drinking beautifully now – the 2001 is on its peak (based on my experience with the 2000) and the 2002 is before peak. These wines tend to feel somewhat harsh and even oaky when drunk to early – but patience is VERY rewarding in this case.

My bottles of 04 are resting in the fridge. 20$ is a good price even in local Israeli standards – and I’d buy a couple and wait till ~2011 before trying the first.

    Lior.

P.S. The link above leads to my wine blog which is in Hebrew – appologizes in advance.

    Great Show!!!

Love seeing Sasha V. on the show….easily the greatest guest of all time and he proves it time and time again with every appearance.

QOTD: economic crisis isnt gonna lighten up anytime soon. I think we will see some ups and downs over the next year, but nothing too substantial. I doubt we will be seeing any sort of true positive change for atleast another 3 or 4 years if not more. Problem is, once economy evens out and gets back to “normal” the real work begins on keeping it there and not letting this crisis happen again.

Awesome. What I would pay to be a fly on the wall at a Vaynerchuk family dinner. I’d pay a little more if I got to try the wines on the table too ;-)

Re: The Economy (it really is a proper noun these days, almost like we’re having one long memorial service for it): I don’t know, and I can’t even think about it anymore. Although there seems to be a nastier spirit to this one compared to the last two (my first-hand experience doesn’t go much farther back than that), we WILL come out of it someday.

In the meantime, I’m just doing everything I can to keep my job safe, and feeling bad about all the other people who can’t do the same and are footing the bill for something that’s no fault of their own.

And I feel worst of all for retired people who have watched their accounts vanish. Not only did they watch their savings trampled, if they need to consider getting a job, they have to do it in a terrible job market.

    Damn, I could use a glass of wine now . . . actually, make that a scotch . . .

  366. April 13, 2009

    Heather W

Oh man, what a great episode, it reminds me of my own family! My dad even calls out me and my siblings on our bs the same.

QOTD: I didn’t vote for Obama, so I don’t know if I feel that I have to support his decision making just like when people vehemently opposed Bush policy even though he was the president. It is the public’s responsibility to protect ourselves against the tyranny of the people in power. That being said he is still my president, and if I do disagree, it should be respectfully, not maliciously. I can’t fault other people for having different opinions, everyone is entitled to his/her own.

I agree about the opportunities that are out there now. Now is the time to make things happen if you have some money stashed away somewhere. I unfortunately do not, and I will be incurring more debt when I go to grad school in the fall, but I’m trying to be smart about it by keeping it minimal and staying in the US rather than going to Europe as was originally planned. God bless the USA, things will get better, Americans are resillient people. I am optimistic, but that is just my nature. Also, I heard a quote somewhere the other day, and it really stuck with me; it’s basically a very simple call to action and personal responsibility. I can’t give credit because i don’t know where it came from, but “be the change you want to see in the world, once you have achieved that goal, you have done your part.” Gary, I feel like you are doing your part in relation to this quote, so thanks for that.

    Gary,

It’s great to see you interact with your pops and how much love you have for him and your family! It was a fun show to watch.

QOTD: I don’t think anyone can predict when this will end. What seems most scary is that people continue to live outside their means even though that is the very reason we are in this current mess. It’s scary actually.

  368. April 13, 2009

Love the family show. Still waiting for one with Mama Vaynerchuk. It’s all about family when it comes to enjoying wines and life! Gary, please please would you give my niece Raissa a shout out on her birthday Apr 21st. She moved
away and we all miss her greatly!
QOTD can’t comment on American politics much, looking forward to the good that may/can come out of an intelligent eloquent insightful President. Your country
was lacking in that respect for quite a while…The last president left a HUGE mess behind that is going to take the American people and their children a LONG time to clean up..

  369. April 13, 2009

Gary tells us that he sees no value in talking politics on his show. fair enough but perhaps then he shouldn’t have un-American propagandist hatchet men from foxs news on either… Just a thought gary…

Wow that was a priceless show! :)

I just spent a couple nights camping with my 7 yr old son. Had a blast. I hope we get along as well as you two when he is Gary’s age.

Re the question that was not asked; I think Gary let it slip that the new baby is a boy. Not betting just waiting to see if I saw what I thought.

The economy will improve over time, it always does, and then sometime it will fall flat again. As long as we the people pay others to “take care” of us and look the other way while they use our funds for the profit of people who already have too much and are greedy for more.

    discoverwine

WOW! What a wonderful show today.
Just catching up on the episodes since I got back from my wine travels and I have to say that was one of the most enjoyable shows I’ve seen – not necessarily for the wine content (although Sasha’s view on the Don Alfonso Cabernet was fantastic)but for me we witnessed a great double act of Father & Son being born. I demand to see more of Sasha…can we have him back at least once a month?

How about a “Wine Politics Show” hosted by Sasha along the lines of the “Mondovino” debate – now that would be real fun!! (at least for me).

It’s great to see a Father and Son so at ease with one another.
    Sasha’s views were priceless!!!

A great winemaker of world renown once told me that his Father left him a great legacy to think about…”No matter what you do in life and no matter how successful you are, always remain humble with the people you meet everyday”

Gary love the Kosher Wine video and having your Dad on was great.
I couldn’t agree with you more that the Yiron is way better then the Don Alfonso.

Will be sharing this with my people catch you later and have fun on your cruise.

    Elisheva

Much as I enjoyed this show, I was awfully disappointed with these picks for a kosher episode. There is SO much great kosher wine out there–you know that better than I do–and to pick $5 Don Alfonso for one of three kosher wines isn’t doing justice to the kosher market. I’ve also never been impressed with Barkan and wasn’t at all surprised that their chard was unremarkable. Please do another kosher show soon and taste better, more interesting bottles! I’d love to see you try Ella Valley, especially the chardonnay and/or cab franc.

  387. April 26, 2009

GV – enjoyed the show! You and your dad have a nice chemistry. You can tell that you will argue your points, but your true respect for one another is woven throughout.

QOTD – Q3 2009 will see the decline stop. Q4 2009 will see a stabilization and possibly a slight uptick. 2010 will have us back to normal.

..Probably 100K plus since your dad is on

Catching up on some episodes. Can’t believe I missed one of Sasha’s! Great episode guys. I think Beuajolais, especially the Cru’s, are the perfect summertime red. Just too hot here in FL for big reds in the summer (at least when the suns up).

There is decent wine out there that is kosher. It is usually $20+ a bottle. I won’t even mention the name because I forgot how to even spell it. ( Hagafen?) Anyway I stopped carrying it because of the entirely rude attitudes I got from people requiring a decent kosher wine at a Manashevitz price. “Never again.”
