What an honest open guy. My favorite episode to date, and I have been here from the first one. This was the best chemistry I have seen you have with a guest. Nice extra that you like the wine.

Recently, one of my sons had the cab at a California restaurant for a business dinner and really enjoyed it.

Us down here in the “podunk” Tampa market enjoy and love baseball as much u “northern” folk! It was great to see what a low salary team could do in baseball last year against the overspending high dollar teams. I don’t think the Yankees have a chance in hell of making it to the WS, they have no pitching! Was great to see them open that $1.2 Billion stadium with a big fat LOSS yesterday.

    Rays in 09!

Great show GV! Great to see a sports guy on the show. Looking forward to trying that Ice Wine and the Cab.

The Great One was a fantastic guest on your show. Gretsky was so humble and gracious–yet clear on his message. His foundation does so much for youth in hockey, I am going to start looking for his wines!
Your interview was respectful and informative–great job Gary!

Sick show Gary. I can’t believe you had “The Great One” on your show. Way to go! Being a huge hockey fan from Canada, it is great to see Wayne on your show. Looking forward to checking out number 99’s wine. I did not know he was into the wine biz. Thanks for enlightening me.

QOTD: Not a big baseball fan, but I will say no to the Yankees winning. I wish the Expos would come back to Montreal :-)

    Great show GV!
The Great One obviously took putting his name on these wines very seriously and it’s good to see they stacked up. Would have loved to see more of his digs.

QOTD: The Spankees won’t sniffy-sniff the series this year. Go Sox

QOTD: Most likely, I figure another world series between two podunk markets like Philly and Tampa would not please Mr. Selig especially in this economy. Hopefully he’ll do a little meddling (akin to how he is stopping everyone from signing Bonds for the league minimum) and get the Yanks in.

Great episode! I could see the smile on your face straight away. Ide love to see you face to face with one of the jets! Would the wine come second over the football?

What is going to happen on episode #666? Its very close!

Gary what a pleasant surprise having the great one on. I think his wife Janet should have been on as well. She seems to be the wine connoisseur. But I understand #99. Great idea for his foundation. I will try it for sure.

Just a thought…those wines are probably going sell pretty fast because everyone is going to think they scored 99 pts. HA!

Have fun on the THUNDER CRUISE!

Great show eh? First off, “gobble upper”? I think that’s the first time I’ve ever heard you use that phrase before, LOL. I think that Wayne’s foundation is tremendous for what they do for children. An awesome incentive for people to purchase the wines regardless of how they taste, although you did score them pretty well. I’m in for some bottles of the Napa Cab if Wayne signs them at Wine Library.

Billy Smith was the greatest goal tender ever…being from Long Island, I’m proud to say he was an Islander, although I am a Ranger fan.

That Ice Wine soooo should have had a jersey label (not team specific), but that’s just my opinion…just a natural pairing if you know what I mean.

QOTD: No, not if CC continues on his current path…but I’m probably wrong!

    Another Awesome Show G. Vay.

Great work on the wines and great job with your foundation, WG.

Where can I get an autographed bottle of one of Wayne’s wines. Chard, Cab, Reis, it don’t matter. Although, the ICE WINE would be the sh!t.
My brother played hockey back in the 80s and he is still a HUGE hockey fan. He now has a large collection of sports memorabilia (Namath, Ali, Mantle, Jordan, etc. etc.) I would give him the signed bottle for his collection ’cause Gretzky was and still is one of his all time favorites.

My first reaction when I saw the opening screen was “WTF??!!! Wayne Gretzky???!!!” You rock Gary! You really are changing the wine world.

Man, Gretzky on your show. How awesome is that!! I still can’t get over it.
    I’m gonna watch it again.

I can see it now, Roger Federer tasting Swiss wines… Michael Schuhmacher sipping German Riesling… the possibilities are endless. If anyone can make it happen it’s you Gary.

    Keep on keepin’ ON!!

GREAT show! But, as one who has lived nearly his entire life in the Pittsburgh area and grew up and remains a Penguins fan, I am saddened to see Wayne Gretsky become the first hockey player to appear as a guest on WLTV. No offense to Wayne; he’s the second greatest hockey player I’ve ever seen and is obviously sincere in his efforts to have his name attached to a quality product and raise money for a worthy cause. But, Gary, you of all people should be aware that Mario Lemieux is an avid, passionate wine collector, one who is especially knowledgeable about Bordeaux. The next time you feature Bordeaux, you should consider asking Super Mario to be your guest. It was interesting that Wayne should mention Tom Barrasso, since Barrasso is also a Bordeaux collector. Perhaps more than fate was involved in Wayne appearing on show #660–maybe the wine gods were providing a subtle reminder of who SHOULD have been the guest…and who was the better hockey player.

I’m probably the longest lurker here- it would take someone like Wayne to get me out of my shell. Good episode. Wayne seems totally like a down to earth guy. Funny how he doesn’t really know a whole lot about wine yet owns multiple vineyards- oh, to be that rich…

  22. April 17, 2009

    Brad

QOTD: I think they can do it, yes.
Great show guys, really awesome to see a big-time athlete on WLTV!

Awesome episode Gary. One thing that’s really cool is that when you turn “660″ around you get “099″, and 99 is Wayne’s hockey jersey number.

Wine Library TV just gets better and better.

GREAT SHOW!!! What a nice guy! Yep, it’s in the running for the best show ever! Wayne sounded like he really knew what he was talking about…that’s nice. It’s so smart that he’s safe-guarding his name legacy by making a quality product.

Thanks Gary for bring us this great show…you both rock!!!

Great episode, now the real question. Is these wines avalible in Sweden? I have a friend who´s birthday is coming up and he is a real hockey nerd just like me and this would be a perfect gift for him. We both grew up during the Gretzky era and he is really into wines, so this would be a perfect gift.

Gotta love the internet, I live in sweden and without internet all this probly would have gone missed. So big thanks
