I’ve been trying Wayne’s wines for a while now, and I can’t tell you how happy I am they don’t suck – I was so worried it was just going to be a name-play, but nope, they’re good! Tried the cab a month or so ago, and I agree with Gary – it was quite good, I’m also very happy that it appears he has a stake in Willow Heights – an Ontario winery that, up until Wayne & Co. took it over, wasn’t making very good stuff – post Wayne, their reds became serious – their “Trissette” a bordeaux style blend just kills, which shocked the hell out of me – but then again, I’m a Cabernet Franc fan, so anything with that in it – done well – makes me happy.

Congratulations Wayne for lending your name to quality Ontario wines! ( ok, ok, and California ;)
Congratulations Gary, great to have you and Wayne together.

Gary looked like he had just hit the lotto! Good to see you so excited Gary. Like a kid in a candy store…… Hopefully it didn’t influence your scores too much. :)

    QOTD: Who are the Yankees?

Jazzed! Nash is a BlueJacket! and Columbus town is going nuts – with their first Playoff bid. Niagra wines rock! Good insight on protecting th integrity of his name – yet humble -his wife making some decisions in the business. QUALITY nand Integrity?

wow- getting to sit down with Wayne Gretzky and drink some wine – some guys have all of the luck. Great show and thanks for letting us sit in with you.

QOTD – The Yankees are too overpriced to win the series -

Having Wayne Gretzky on the show gives the show an element that pushes it to a new level. I have been an Islander fan since their inception and watched Billy Smith play his whole career and can really appreciate Waynes view. No matter what team a person watches, they are still a Gretzky fan.

Fun show. I am not a big hockey fan, but I am a Wayne Gretzky fan. An amazing athlete and seems like a nice guy too. QOTD – I hope the Yankees do not win the World Series.

    QOTD: No!

Nice episode. Mr. Gretzky shows what a nice guy he is, and it sounds like he does the right thing by putting his name on quality product. Thanks for another great one.

Just a fun show, especially when Gretzky was just drinking away while Gary was setting up the sniffy-sniff.

    QOTD – Blue Jays too.

Nice project there Wayne. Some good wines, good people, for a great cause, you can’t ask for anything more than that.

I hope you left Mrs. Gretsky a few Napa reds that are far superior to Opus One. There are lots out there that beat Opus large.

In reaction to the “…Gretzky doesn’t know wine…” comments: people, I’d have a lot more worries if someone actually called themselves a winemaker and had no idea. This is a living legend and definitely one of the best, if not, best ever hockey player which has ever lived!! It’s not like he’s pretending to be something he isn’t.

At least he was honest from the get-go about not really knowing much about wine and told the story about how this all came about. The fact that part of the sales go to a great cause should be admired.

This was awesome!!! I’ll always love Wayne for what he did for the KINGS!!! He could have used some of that extra girth when he was playing though. Maybe he wouldn’t have been checked off the puck as much.

Wow, how awesome it must feel to know that the great one is a vayniac!

To continue on the sports theme, I think I just saw Gary on ESPN’s promo of the NFL draft. Here’s a pic:

QOTD: Statistically, don’t you HAVE to pick the Yankees?

Gary, wow, the GREAT ONE is on your show!! Man that was awesome…Great wine Wayne, I’ve tried the Cab and it’s great. Gary, that’s the first time you do not spit the wine when you taste on the show.
No the Yankee won’t win the series. Cheers

The Great One and a GREAT episode. Even though you beat my Bruins in the finals I’ll forgive you if they can win the Cup this year. Really want to try the Cab and Icewine-Shiraz. Hope one of my distributors here in Mass can get it.

QOTD…Hell no the Yankess won’t win the world series. Its gonna be someone obscure like the Royals or Marlins again.

OMG Wayne Gretzky ON THIS SHOW I CAN’T BELIVE IT. I tried his Napa Valley Cab at one of the wine show in St Catherines over the summer and it was great.

I find it funny how differently people are treated by the fans of this show. To be honest, Wayne only knew maybe 1 trivia fact about wine and not much else (really he let Gary do all the wine talk for him) and yet he gets treated with respect, whereas the Collegehumor folks had about the same inexperience with wine and were berated by a lot of WLTV fans. I think the biggest difference is that Gary didn’t really push him to give his opinions on all the wines like he did for the CH people, and Wayne didn’t have to be funny in front of a hostile audience. We all just bow to him because he’s a hockey god.

I’m actually really hesitant on watching all these episodes where he is with the wine owners. It seems like it would be extremely hard to be harsh on the wine with them right there. Has Gary ever commented on that? I mean I know Gary is a great guy and all, but when the biggest hockey legend of all time is telling you that you’re a cool guy, it’d be pretty hard to call his wine “just average”.

Anyways I like the episode despite all that, and it seems like you had a lot of fun making this episode. Here’s to more episodes with people who aren’t wine experts (I usually find them to be the most fun).
