I hate the flip cam episodes because the video sucks. Just my opinion. Of course, if you would quit shooting into the light, it would be a bit better.

Like the flip cam episodes and the on location tastings.

    QOTD:

Best – Banfi Brunello di Montalcino
Worst – A weak Chardonnay, even from a new bottle

I was really impressed by Aroma Kitchen & Winebar in the East Village. Great Italian wine list. Very authentic menu and great people.

Still loving the variety of shows, thanks! 97 was an interesting choice; you must have had former steeler Kendrell Bell on your mind. QOTD: Best: the Brunello on the Thundercruise at the winebar; Worst: I like all wine.

Lets start here. *Worst wine by the glass recently,?, A nnasty, probably open too long Chianti at a local rest. Not worth remembering the name. *Best was a merlot but I never remember the names when I go by the glass.

Fun show Gary! I even liked the “edit” and yes Mott’s job had better be safe.( the Gretsky show was a sleeper for me.)

I am glad you talked about the time that wines are open in the wine bars. I also wonder when you should complain and send back wines that seem to be past their window of goodness?

MMmm where was I? I had to take a 2 hour break from this to feed my son and get him to bed.

You reminded me of the movie “So I married an axe murderer” when you showed us your phone to prove that Cab texted you. There’s a part in the movie when the mother of Mike Meyer’s character shows him the National inquirer and says that being printed makes it a fact. Whenever you start talking about “over oaking” you forget to say “over oaked for my taste” and that sort of makes the statement come across as the final word. I of course don’t listen to you because I know it’s all a matter of my own palate. (yes I have been watching for a little while now, maybe a couple hundred episodes.)

I hope the cafe comped you those tastes in exchange for showing there place to the Vayner Nation.

Being that this episode is week old I hope you do gat a chance to read this.

Nice cork check to the flip cam at the end by the way, nice parting shot of the ceiling.

Backlit, but neat show. I’d love to know whether you just dropped in to this particular spot, or planned it.

QOTD: …. original sin hard cider(?) ;)

Hey GV, you don’t have to apologize to me about the horns — I live at the entrance to the Queensboro Bridge and we get people layin’ on ‘em 24/7.

    Good show, good information.

QOTD – in the last 97 days I have not had a wine by the glass but one of the best I have had was a 20 year tawny port at my birthday outing last year.

The worst – a house merlot at a chain steak house.

    Best: Dolcetto at Il Trulli
Worst: Saumur Champigny at Le Bateau D’Ivre – thin, Paris Bistro for the tourists style

QOTD: Haven’t been to a strict wine bar in a while, but I can name some wines by the glass I’ve had recently
Best: 2005 Chateau Jouclary Cabardes (I think I remembered that right)
    Worst: 2007 Layer Cake Malbec

WORST: Mark West Pinot Noir. Horrible. It seems hard to find a drinkable $8 glass o Pinot

The worst for me hasn’t happened yet but I’m sure it will soon, the best so far would be a Torres Alegre Petite Verdot 2006 from Baja California, Mexico.

I agree that you should have placed the camera against the window not towards it but it’s a mute point by now, many people said so.

Enjoyable fun episode GV….though remember the fundamentals of photography and that is to have the sun behind you when filming.

I attended the new Penfolds release tasting yesterday….the 2004 Grange is stunning.

QOTD: Cannot remember the name of the last wine I had by the glass but it was definately an italian one that wasnt very good.

Listened, didn’t watch. The lighting was horrid, gotta keep that in front of you not behind you.

Personally I’m still really enjoying the Leon Vatan Sancerre, hated the last Sauternes I tried.

I rarely drink wines by the glass at restaurants because of the question of how long they’ve been open and the pricing. The only one I’ve had recently was a Recioto di Soave. I’m not sure of the producer. It was a good dessert wine but had probably been open too long. I enjoyed it more because I’ve never had a Recioto di Soave than for any other reason.

I was a little confused by this show – you tried 3 random wines in a random ‘wine bar’ with no exact prices (shop or restaurant specific). It really felt like it needed more focus.. or maybe it was just because the wines were so poor.

    Best:
the 2004 Conde Valdemar Crianza Rioja was amazing- sour fruit with high minerality and a long, dry, chalky finish.

    Worst:
haven’t tasted anything really bad recently… the 2007 Cline Reserva Napa Zinfandel was unimpressive- real syruppy and short.

QOTD: Best: my wines by the glass are unmemorable – especially since I order whites a lot because I often order fish when I eat out.
Worst: a Ferrari Carraro Chardonnay that was way too old. I guess I need to switch to reds – I’ve never seen a Tannat on any wine list in my home town though.

QOTD: I don’t get out much. I prefer BYOB on the rare occasion of date night with my hubby.

gary, if you’re going to do some other flipcam shows, i highly suggest you get the flip HD cameras … then you can get some better quality shots (you don’t have to distribute them in HD, you can just render them at a lower resolution that will still be better)

p.s. don’t put light behind you, but in front of you.

Thanks for the remote show Gary and P.S. I really enjoyed the episode with Timbo, good clean fun is what that was. Ok enough with the flattery, down to business. I served and managed at a wine bar with a monthly revolving, 25 glass list for a year and a half so I had the pleasure to get to know some vino. So this is what I found in the past 97 days (really obscure number by the way…but awesome!)

Best: Domaine Chandon 2006 Pinot Meunier Carneros <—-Great Great Great
Worst: Toad Hollow Zinfandel Cacophony 2006

QOTD, Worst: Viñedos de Ithaca, Akyles 2005 (Priorat), the bottle had been open for way too long. Best: Viñedos de Ithaca, Akyles 2005 (Priorat), when I asked the waiter to bring me a new one.
