87/100

The guest was a really nice guy but the sound was fuzzy and distant throughout and for that reason it only gets an 87

  • One of the best guests you’ve had, I love learning about the history of winemaking.
QOTD: I’m more of an IRL/NASCAR guy than F1, but my gf’s all about it and Alonso is her favorite.

    QOTD: Button as champion

Second time around was just as interesting with Peter. What a wonderful wealth of knowledge and perspective. I think what I appreciate about both you and your guest is the clear understanding each of you have that you must take stock of where you are from and how you got to where you are (so to speak). You must know and appreciate your own family’s history if you are to truly thrive in the family business. Great episode. Peace.

Gary, watched the both parts yesterday, no time for a comment until today. Great job. Fantastic edutainment value. Thanks for taking us along for the ride and for giving us a unique perspective along the way you lucky devil.

QOTD. I’ll have to think about that one, while I’m playing a real sport, like billiards…

QOTD: F1 this year is still up for grabs, but this weekend’s race may be the defining moment. If McLaren and Ferrari (and BMW?) can start the European leg with proper cars, Brawn’s dream could be in jeopardy. For now, I do think that Jenson Button’s “2.5” wins put him in in a privileged position and that his 22 point lead over the best McLaren (Hamilton) and 28 over Ferrari (Kimi) may help him even if the majors can figure out how to re-build their car. My boy Barichello has a bad start and seems to be missing the chance of his lifetime (he’s a better driver than Button). I think the Ferraris are done and Alonson won’t get there either. Lewis Hamilton may get close and dethrone the Brawns, unfortunately (he’s too much of a prima donna, but a hell of a driver). Sebastian Vettel is definitely the one to watch – underdog this year but definitely a future champ.

  • Formula one racing, not so much. Haven’t watch in 20 years.
The wines, however, both the Sauvignon Blanc and the Merlot are good QPR and I really like the Sauvignon Blanc quite a lot because of their not attempting to manipulate it.

  • Great episodes with Peter. I can tell he is passionate and even as a legend is a humble, everyday kind of guy. I’m pumped to get my hands on some of that Sauvignon Blanc.

QOTD: What is Formula 1? Just kidding, do Americans really keep up with F1 anymore.

Part 2 lived up to Part 1. Peter Mondavi was the perfect guest. His knowledge, plus his laid-back but excited style, made the interview very entertaining. Please have more ?legends? on your show. Loved it.

QOTD: No knowledge of any of the motor sports.

This was a great 2 part. I like knowledgeable/humble guests who can wine nerd it up. Good stuff.

    Awesome show Gary, great guest!

    Tough to hear though…

I don’t suppose you can travel with a couple mics for those sporadic shows?

    Gary,

Peter Mondavi was THE PERFECT GUEST. What a gracious / normal dude. And, Gary, your interview style is IMPROVING. Still a little jumpy – but that’s just you – you’re becoming more patient… It makes for a much better interview.

Nice show, was interested to hear about the history and back story about the wines. I was looking forward to you hating the Sav B – but glad they left the dark side there. I am wondering if you forgot to rate the last wine, or if you didn’t want to insult the guest with an 86-point rating for his premium wine.

QOTD – I have no idea. Racing has never been on my radar.

Great part deux to the interview.. with good insight on the wines except for the Reserve.. Look forward to more exciting guests..nice work!

Great show. Gives me some wonderful insight into the personality of Peter and background on the Mondavi family history.

QOTD: And its great to know Peter is a F1 fan like me. This year is a unique year. Its good to see some of the lesser known drivers and to some extent less sucessful (in past years) teams come to the front of the pack. Button is finally showing his potential and talent as a driver, but his team mate Barrichello may have the advantage with more experience and the fortitude to grind it out in a close points race though to the end of the season. My bet is placed on Barrichello.

QOTD: I’m not much of a car person but I’d attend the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix if I could afford it and stay at the Burj-al Arab.

I loved the Rutherford Hill merlot that was handed out on the Thunder Cruise. It had 5 varietals which is a good thing. Mondavi does a good job with Charles Krug. It was fun getting some of the background anecdotes.

Thanks for the find on the Krug Sauvignon Blanc. I’m not a huge SB fan, but this sounds good to try.

QOTD: Do not follow racing, not even NASCAR, which is huge here in North Carolina.

I Love the Charles Krug Generations…
One of my favorite wines I have had recently… good value…QPR!
Sold a ton of it this year at a tiny wine bar at a ski resort up here in Lake Tahoe… It was very interesting to hear Peter talk about his wines.
Was wondering what you would have rated it??? You never said much about the taste profile either…

QOTD… I think Ricky Bobby should start racing F1, he’d blow away the spectators andracers!!! Haha…

  • ~The Ticket

I loved both parts to this show. What a great interview and tasting.

QOTD. I love F1 and I was so happy to hear him say F1 (get way from the FB talk) I think that Brawn GP will win the constructors Champ and all ready have a great lead.
Now for the Drivers Championship its hard to say we are going to see a lot of changes in the cars in the coming weeks so it could change alot of team decisions and driving styles. I am a Hamilton fan and he is holding is own with out having a fast car. Button is doing amazing and Vettle is an other favorite. So as long as the final looks something like Button, Hamilton, Vettel I’ll be a happy camper. Just keep Ferrari out of the top three don’t think it will happen though look at two years ago.
Sorry for the rant just passionate.
Do you have a favorite team Gerry?

I agree it was sometimes hard to hear, maybe one of those smaller cameras with thoes bluetooth microphones?

QOTD – No googling here, I’m not a racing fan 🙂

Good episode. Interestingly, I enjoyed yesterday’s interview with Peter a bit more interesting. Good to hear about the Sauv. Blanc. I never heard much about their wines – a bit like they produce o.k. stuff with nothing standing out. Noted you did not get in depth into the final wine – no score nor in depth tasting note. I wonder, for the price, if you considered it a major pazzzz… For $50, I’m sure your expecting a lot out of it and I did not note that from you. Fair enough, you can’t say “major pazzz” in front of the owner/icon and great guest. Peter was a class act and a great guest. Gave me a better perception of Charles Krug wines.

QTD – Not a race fan here, sorry.

  • QOTD: BrawnGP obviously has the momentum but I /want/ to see RedBull and Vettle pull it off.

Peter Mondavi seems like a very smart, down-to-earth and articulate guy. Not a huge shocker, wine people tend to be very cool people. 🙂

    Fun second part!

I missed it yesterday, but I’m happy to watch it now. Nice to hear about the trials that led to the blending. Fruitful mistakes?

I shall seek out the Charles Krug products up herein Québec.

    Thanks!

Great 2 part series—informative That wine (Krug) got me started in this stuff in the early 70’ties and never looked back. What happened to the $10 90+(WS) point great wines? Yea, I know inflation, etc, etc, etc,—
Keep educating us it makes the brain younger and more agile.
