90/100

line of the day – ‘If anybody knows who wears No 70 for the New York Jets I will give them $4,000, GO’

Phenomenal – slagging off a $70 wine, 2 yards away from the guy who donated it to the show and not batting an eyelid. You have to be impressed.

QOTD: Can’t remember the specs but it was an Albarino. Just didn’t deliver in any aspect, nose, midpalate or finish. Very unremarkable.

    Peace.

Maybe the wines sucked cause you’ve been away at sea too long.

I’ve got a couple bottles of the 06 Titus Zin I’m anxiously awaiting to pop. I’ve still got my detailed notes from the private tasting I did (led by a Thunder Cruise winner) “I picked up blueberry, blackberry, tobacco, black pepper and vanilla on the palate with a lengthy finish. Nicely balanced acidity and tannins”

I had a disappointing Pinot this month, an ’06 and one of which I really enjoyed 2 previous bottles off….

To the people who post on this forum and others I visit
for no other reason than to tell us what number you
are. What a sad group of underachievers you all must be.

QOTD: Nothing bad in the last 30 days but I have purchased
a Yellow Tail wine on 2 occasions in the past… there won’t
    be a third time.

You must be getting very close to Baby Zero Hour. Let us know how far off the blessed event is.

QOTD: 2007 Blackstone Merlot, bought at a supermarket where there were very few choices.

  • Oh GV. Even though the wines sucked I still had a fun time watching you film them.

QOTD: I haven’t been disappointed by any wine in the last 30 days because the only wine I drank was on the Thunder Cruise and when you are with friends all the wines get an added bonus.

  • Again, it was great to be there for the cruise and the shows.

FULL DISCLOSURE for the comment page: I am the rep from Titus on the boat. Thank you for reviewing the wine and thank you for the words on the pedigree of the winery. I will have to see if I have any ’94 around that is still holding up. We know that better can be produced and we are happy to go there.

Keep hustlin’ and keepin it real. See you soon with more wine.

QOTD: I tried and obscure white wine from Japan, Koshu, it was was a disjointed watery mess that had potential to be different and unique but ended up cleaning my drain instead.

Always entertaining to watch garyvee work a crowd! The Thunder Cruise looked like a good time. Maybe next year?

  • Gary,
This was one of the most entertaining shows I’ve seen. You were so on your game, man!
Sorry the wines were disappointing (3 out of 4 anyway).

QOTD: My father-in-law’s home made wine.

You know, not every wine is good. It’s nice to see some tank every now-and-again, especially more expensive ones. I enjoyed watching the show live and being apart of something incredible. Thanks again everyone!

    eep eep horay!

QOTD: Probably more like the last 90 days, but I popped one of my fav. old vine zins and it was horrible. I’m pretty sure it got heat damaged while hanging on my wall last summer ๐Ÿ™

  • Im still jealous of everyone who got to go… dammit!

QOTD: A 2006 Sancerre rouge Gรฉrard Fiou which I actually had last night. Not that it was supposed to be a great wine or anything, but I am a huge fan of the better known white Sancerre from that producer, and thought the red might also be just as good. Wrong. It was hot, disjointed and dry as hell on the finish. Total let down.

may be if you use a real glass and not that sucky fishbowl your drinking out of the wine would have been better. None the less it’s hard to find a zin that IS good (to my palet).
As well your in the middle of the ocean was there a lot of low pressure in the air? that clubs down the wine
qotd= I had a materized bottle of Chaputier a Hermiage Blanc single vineyard. My friend is the rep so he opened it and it sucked that it was good at one point and had gone south?

    Well that was a downer…

QOTD: Yesterday. I had a 2000 Far Niente Estate Bottled Cabernet. Great nose and excellent upfront fruit. So far, so good.

Then…nothing. Not what you want for the high 2 digits…very disappointing.

QOTD: In the past 30 days I’ve just had some wine that was too old – a 2005 Cambria chardonnay, but going back further, I think the Oklahoma wine was the most disappointing.

Bonterra (aka Fetzer) Sangio, I think it was 99. Just got too old and tasted like nothing my own fault for letting it stay around.

    Wishing I had been there.

Hrmm, was unfortunate you found the Diva from S. Anderson. I’ve been drinking the 2000 Late Disgorged as my main bubbles for the last year. But in truth every now and then, they hit a vintage that is just plain skunky. And you found one.

QOTD: It was a Grenache that I had at Splash Wine bar in San Diego. It was really over the top on fruit and seemed to have way too much residual sugar. Don’t recall the details other than it was french and I needed a moment to recover to move on with the tasting

Couldn’t agree with you more on the ’07 Dashe Zin…I tasted it very recently, and it is showing EXTREMELY well for my palate. Definitely brings some thunder!!

QOTD: Gary, I recently took a day trip to the Unionville Winery down here in central NJ. While I did taste a few really interesting wines (a nice dry riesling, fairly decent chard, and a decently complex cab franc based red blend), there were 2 which were absloutely AWFUL!! The Merlot was a one dimensional fruit bomb, which lacked and structure or complexity and had zero finish whatsoever. We also tried a port which was way too over the top…Almost like mixing robitussin with a ton of fudge. Way too syrupy and really wouldnt pair well with much of anything. Overall, we had a nice visit and like i said, there were several interesting varietals to try.

sorry bout the rotie, thats a bummer, at least youre on vacation. i went to the lauber tasting in the city, tasted alot of good ones, but the one that disappointed me the most was the montebello by Ridge. their whole line is so amazing, but the montebello just didnt do it for me like their lower cab blends (santa cruz mount. and home ranch) that could be a show G-man! wink wink.

Wow – I’m definitely going to make the next Thunder Cruise, looked pretty cool.

If there is one thing that I learned from the last two episodes, its that Vaniaks have class! Sure, they get a little rowdy when necessary, but they shut up and listen when Gary is talking. This is a huge improvement over some of the last couple shows in front of audiences (San Diego anybody?)

Looks like the Thunder Cruise was a great success. Hope to join you next year.

QOTD: Allendorf Rheingau Spatburgunder (German Pinot Noir) – I keep hoping to find a German Spatburgunder that doesnt suck. I guess I will keep looking. This was cloudy and brownish out of the bottle. First sniff/ taste wasnt bad, but the finish was like sour manure.

QOTD: Cancelli Coltibuono red Italian/Tuscan Blend. Imbalanced wine, little fruit that is present is overwhelmed by minty/medicine taste. Finish is very short with no mid-palate. 70% Sangiovese and 30% Syrah
