Great show, Gary — Katie’s so cute! I mean, I still think it’s a *little* weird that she’s my age and married to someone my dad’s age (don’t care WHO he is), but I gotta say –- to each her own, and she’s winning me over anyway. She’s open to learning, not afraid to say “I put ice cubes in my rosé!” I would totally be friends with her.

QOTD: Dessert with rosé would have to include fruit. I think something super simple and refreshing might be perfect, like fruit skewers (maybe grilled?) with sugared crème fraiche.

Katie -an ice cube in your wine is PERFECTLY FINE.

GV- FYI, if an everyday bottle is not quite up to par (opened bottles, red white, or pink are kept in the fridge, but must be finished in a few days if possible.), it can be helped to firm up the tannins, and attenuate failing fruit by serving chilled, or adding an ice cube. It’s OK to do it, to salvage a situation.

Her Portuguese rose looks to me like Alianca’s Casal Mendes. Very inexpensive and good, but not worth saving/aging. Drink youngest available. Their Vinho Verde has awesome bright fruit (even melon) and big spritziness.

QotD – Sorry, no soda, no dessert. American per capita sugar consumption is WAAAY out of control. Grotesque. Fresh fruits/salad is natural and ok. And don’t buy and products in a bottle, jar, or box that use words like ‘natural’ either.

Fantastic guest. The precociousness was palatable (palate plus table = palatable). I’m just sorry I don’t bake, such that I would have an answer for the QOTD. Peace.

Use the same wine to make ice cube, This is a better way to refresh you wine.

QOTD: fresh mixed berries with homemade whipping cream.

Gary, Gary, Gary, everytime I see you recently youre hanging out with some hot ladies….be it Katie Lee Joel or the women from TMI weekly. Furthermore I love the start of the TMI broadcast when the main presenter says, “we need two episodes of Gary, because he is just sooo big.”…. ;)

Are you sure youre not trying to teach us Vayniacs the art of seduction more so than the art of wine?

QOTD: Im thinking Lemon Merigue Pie…..not sure why though

I nearly cried by the end of this episode. I love what you bring to the wine world, helping us and guiding us. It’s your super power Gary, when the bad guy attacks, you jump in and taste some wine and give the bad guy some wine to taste. They become so overjoyed with the pleasure of expanding their universe that they mutate into a good guy.

How do you not get Billy Joel to make an appearance for 30 seconds or so??? Those birds drove me crazy the entire episode.

QOTD: Rose and rapsberry gelato covered in dark chocolate shavings.

I like I can’t believe it’s not butter, but I smell merthiolate or mercurechrome in rose and it really puts me off. Plus the fact that I got sick a couple times with rose.
QOTD: I actually have a recipe for a rose wine pie, but I’ve never made it. I’ll bet it’s good. It looke smooth and white and the picture of the pie has a sliced strawberry on top.
If you keep trying water, at some point it may appeal to you. It has a lot of virtues. It’s hard to mess it up like people mess up iced tea all the time.

Had some polenta fried in duck fat tonight and I was think a Rose’ would have went great with that- however had a Prosecco opened already.

The cranky ones are probably your old boyfriends crying in their beer over losing you!

In my opinion, she seems real and so I liked this show, and its rather refreshing for a change in life. No phoneyness, no pretending she knew everything about wine. A nice guest. Katie dont even listen to the cranky ones here. You were great!

Nicely done.. I am a hater of the pink juice, but I’ll give the goat and monkey a try someday!! I enjoy these interview episodes as much as the impromptu ones in hotels, really nicely done.. I cannot believe that no one has scooped you up yet for a show much like Rachel Ray or Jimmy Fallon.. I for one would tune in!!!

And ok, I also thought “thats what she said”, but only because I love The Office so much!!

Great episode, Gary! Katie is a fantastic personality, and doing a rose episode leading up to Memorial Day with her was perfect.

    ALSO!

Thought it was AWESOME when the one and only Billy Joel rolls on in whistling his way down the stairs. That’s what separates WLTV from all the others!

haha funny!! I also had to restrain myself from saying “that’s what she said” at certain moments :-)

    QOTD: Rose poached pears…
    berry compote made with rose…
    rose, berry sorbetto

i tried not to say that’s is what she said.

QOTD: i would definitely go with something creamy like my favorite, raspberry creme brulee. i found a great rose from michigan. it is styled after a Beaujolais nouveau. With that particular one, maybe a plum crumble.

When oh when will we drink the tempier, its like right of passage! it needs to happen pronto

QOTD: Rose and blackberry gelee with vanilla creme fraiche

Did anyone else say “That’s what she said” when Katie was talking about Oysters?

    QOTD: Strawberry Shortcake

  19. May 10, 2009

    Bal H.

Maybe a pound cake (lemon?) with fresh berries and whipped cream

Try the 2008 Crios de Susanna Balbo Malbec Rosé – it is excellent!

Not a bad epsiode, like having an open mind. Will look for Goat and Donkey. It must be tough to market a wine, sometimes names really sound generic, and it’s a little daunting for someone who is anxious to learn. KLJ’s cute, and is probably quite good in her kitchen, but I wish she’d watched a little more wine lib before being on the show. I think then she’d have gotten a better vibe here in the comments.

I will check out the whitewater sometime, sounds like a great thing to do this summer.

Great episode. I haven’t missed a show since #300 and I think that this was the most natural (conversational) interview yet. Good job! Didn’t hurt that she was easy on the eyes.

Billy Joel’s wife is soooooo hot!
my dessert recipe would be her with whip cream and macerated berry juice. it would go perfect with any rose

Did not know she was Mrs. Billy Joel, did not know the old guy who came down the stairs was her husband. But I liked the setting, a very pretty minimalist decor. Kathy Lee didn’t seem very knowledgeable about food either, but perhaps she was just in a relaxed mode because she was on somebody else’s show. Will look her up (never heard of her before). As for the roses, I’ve been curious about them so thanks for this show. I will definitely try the Goat and Donkey if they sell them up here.

hi gary great show ! believe me or not all the best rosé i tasted were made with grenache (believe my winemaking experience from south of france you should drink the rosé of the year) thank you kind katie can’t follow you on twitter i’m on my space and my mother for mother days beleives i’m on facebook :) QOTD : obviously the best rosé should be served with the dessert “la forêt noire” a grenache rosé ! ps : gary do not “put a label” on south of france with this tradition of rosé we used to make rosé traditionally because it’s hot on the med coast and rosé is the most refreshing drink

    one comment guy

I read a few comments from people hating on this episode and had to comment. to be honest i loved it! i am 22 years old and do not know a lot about wine and it is great to have good entertainment while i learn a little. plus the background was not horribly lit and boring. i would say gary is the bridge between the people who know it all and the people who have no clue and that is a noble and i’m sure difficult place to be.
