Awesome news for the book – can’t wait to read it! Another great show, and will try to seek out the wines myself.

QOTD: white house correspondence dinner’s speech by wanda sykes – yes I think she said what a lot of Americans were thinking in their minds, and “crushed it”.

Gee, Gary, have you bought my latest book yet? Seriously, congrats on the new book. When a new book comes out, you feel like you’ve ‘crushed it’ (at least until the reviewers get a hold of it!)

Another great show and so nice to have you back in the saddle.
We just got back from Napa and the chardonnay you referenced, the Far Niente we bought at the winery for $56 and then we found out you were selling the same, yup, the same wine for $42. What a bummer. Maybe we should stick to purchases only from WL. May have to try the Wind Gap.

Congrats on the new book and thanks for another episode on a busy day! Haven’t viewed the episode yet, and I’m interested in Pax’s new gig and seeing how Wind Gap does.

QOTD: What most recently “crushed it”? Easy! The Thunder Cruise tasting/dinner hosted by our friends, the Frosts (along with the Scheffields, members of the Utah connection, all of whom you obviously met, Gary). Sheila and Ken brought out some tasty wines that you served on the cruise and framed it with a fabulous sparkler, tremendous food and stories of the legend that is Gary V. Good friends, good wine, good food. Tough to top!

  24. May 13, 2009

    Harry

Besides some of your recent crushing shows (N. Joly, Cru, Betts), I’d have to say my buddy Pete and I crushed it with Aum Cellars Tres Joyas, a blend of viognier, sauv blanc, and symphony. Not as stunning as the 05 Cab, but crushing it for the price.
Congrats on the book – glad to see you’re pumping it out like the multi-million dollar author you are.

[Direction - Gary and Mott switch places so Mott can critique the wine, Mott sits down in front of the camera, and raises the glass to his nose.]
Mott: “Don’t zoom in on my head again”
Gary: “I won’t, how to I zoom out?”
[Direction - Gary now running the camera then zooms in as tight as he can on Mott's face as he smells and tastes the wine; the viewers laugh]
    Mott: “Berries?”
[Direction - more banter between Gary and Mott, Gary then zooms back out after 20-30 seconds of extreme close-up and attempts to restore the original zoom-ratio, however he zooms out too far; they exchange places once again and the show continues.]

QOTD: Sometimes timing is everyting (well lots of the time) and I absolutely crushed it with the timing of a situation and everything just fell into place just as the Universe intended. It’s like hitting a golf ball pure “on the screws” and litterally crushing it so far that it hardly feels like you even hit the ball with any effort…now that’s crushing it 300+ yards out.

    Congratulations on the book!
QOTD: I would say that my first experience with biodynamic wine last night “crushed it”. It was an ‘07 Pulse Pinot Noir and it was amazing. Now I have to go watch your episode on biodynamic wines that my friend Jade from Portland has been talking about. Thanks for the show!

Good to have you back. I’ve been looking for Bandol wine for a long time (something like 300 WLTV episodes ago) but it’s difficult to find it premium locally.

Great thing about the book, will order one, for sure.

QOTD: When I ‘flew solo’ for the first time!

  36. May 13, 2009

    Michael Schoonmaker

QOTD: For better or worse, this was before I knew you existed.

I decided that, whether or not my university could support me in this endeavor, that I would go into the video games industry. Having no one around to mentor me, I emptied my bank account into a plane ticket to San Francisco and a one-day Student Pass to the annual Game Developer’s Conference in the Moscone Center. I called up the parents of a recently-acquainted friend who’s mother then drove me where I needed to go. I brought 500 business cards and 12 resumes. I crushed it more than I had before or since, and got asked to interviews and jobs since.

On that same note, I owe my career to that good friend and his family. FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARE BETTER THAN MONEY! Or stuff… or career… you name it.

QOTD: I found a wine about a month back (2007 Gray Monk Ehrenfelser) that I was trying to find for almost a year, and I found one in restaurant in Tofino,BC,Canada and it totally “crushed it” (such a cool phrase, it going in my phrase book now).

Hey Gary – Congrats on the BOOK….Need to get me one!!!

Love the Priorats – had the pleasure of working in the region in vintage 05!!

QOTD…..What crushed it for me was discovering Gary Vaynerchuk….From Humble beginnings……hustling your way to the top & beyond!! This has taught me that anyone can follow their passion as long as you have focus and hunger. For me this is happening. I have been procrastinating about producing a wine label for 5 years now and nothing has been done…until now!!! All my energies are going into my wine label and now I have a label/wine/passion and chops to go out and sell a product that people will enjoy…THIS IS ONLY THE START…Thanks Gary for your passion and belief that anyone can do anything

2 for me. And a new wristband. I need it (see below):

QOTD: Party crew of 20 on my 38 foot sailboat (crowded), anchored out all night, we partied like mad. I told everyony to make themselves at home, inc. food and drink – open anything they wanted on the boat – beer, liquor, wine. Didn’t realize ppl would find my stash of better wine (cellared in a lazarette) til we were all drinking out of bottles on the below-decks impromptu dance floor and someone passed me a bottle of what I thought was Barefoot but was in fact an Arista Pinot. That and all the hard-earned fruits of my last trip to Napa Valley were all open. No choice but to roll with it, so I threw on a Vayner-Nation wrist band, and had an even better night. The wrist band went over very well. And went overboard very well, as well, when the party went above decks. The crew and I definitely CRUSHED IT that night.

Wellll, I was going to wait until it came out….. but with the possibility of a WRISTBAND involved… I just ordered my copy!!! Can’t wait, even though I’m not much of a businessman myself, I know there will be killer content inside valuable for everyone! PS you’re up to 119 on Amazon’s best sellers ALREADY!!

Also just FYI, I checked my receipt- Amazon doesn’t put the date of order in the email receipt! So you may need to have people copy & paste their order info from their Amazon account to confirm the date. Just be sure to keep us posted!

Gary – that episode absolutely crushed it!!! Where do I start… loved your impression of a bear waking up from hibernation, breaking out the big glass for the special occasion, zooming in on MOTT, and rating the priorat 10 points below Wine Advocate.

QOTD: Game 2 of Capitals vs Penguins in DC when Alex Ovechkin had a hat trick and the Verizon Center was going BERSERK… that crushed it… Tonight losing game 7 by 4 goals was the exact opposite of crushing it…

I used to be an extreme fan. Have emailed you, churched you up to my friends, backed your validity while other wine folk put you down, used your scores in my store…etc. the time has come to speak the my mind. you’ve let me down. if you don’t believe that you’ve lost something, just research your own archived library of the show. where has the genuine passion gone? thunder cruise…really? i’ll stop now, but damn i could go on. im done watching. have fun plugging your book and your wines. my favorite outlet has lost its way.

hmmm QOTD. Probably when I hit driver driver on a 555 yard par 5 into the hole for double eagle. Or when my seahawks put the final stake in the jets heart last season to keep them out of the playoffs and shove Favre back into the retirement home from whence he came. Sorry the last wine was meh. or below meh. Seemed to sap your energy a tad.

Only count me in for one book right now since I am at college and don’t have a reliable shipping address…and since it doesn’t come out until October, I want to make sure I have it the day it comes out. But…I went ahead and got the Vaynerchuk bundle and got his older book as well.

Very siked. Although I am only 18 right now, hopefully I’ll learn how to crush it like no other.

Keep up the great work Gary.

QOTD Reading some of the comments about the THUNDER CRUISE CRUSHED IT! I really wish I’d gone. 200 fun winos on a boat. Isn’t that a small number for a bigass boat. Congrats!
Nice try on the wines today. I think I’ll order some of the Bandol since I love to say Movedre.
Slight overkill on the book push and I don’t want to help you buy some half assed pigskin team.

    Gary -
Congrats on the book. Best of luck with it. I’m sure it will do well as you have quite a following.

It was kind of fun getting Mott involved … wished he would have taken a sip to get his impressions.

What is with the drop off in comments? If you back off “Kahuna” who has left many single sentence comments and “TimF” whose comment section is … designs, there was only a few quality comments left compared to prior episodes. Maybe everyone is out and about with the spring weather.

QTD – Our daughter had dance auditions for her dance competition team. She will not listen to verbal comments from us so I posted about 30 signs throughout the house with motivational comments on them. They worked! She was rated the third best dancer in her studio and she is basically one of the youngest. CRUSHED IT, baby … especially compared to all the older girls who have been dancing for 3-6 more years than her. CRUSHED IT, baby!!!

Congrats on your book man! I loved this episode, a perfect example of why i love your wine blogs. Here you are, a wine shop owner, who just got in a shipment of $70 bottles of wine, and you dis it anyway. I really love that about you.

QOTD: this was tough for me. I’ve been out of work since having to make a huge move cross country last year. So i don’t feel like i’ve crushed it for a long while. However, since now instead of working full time i am now happy homemaker girl, i’ve learned how to be SuperFrugalGirl. My latest and proudest accomplishment was finding us a new apartment, which is in a better neighborhood, bigger, newer, better in every way than our current place, and yet is $400 less for monthly rent. So i pretty much crushed that. We start moving in tomorrow. Maybe now i’ll be able to afford to buy your book. Right now i’m on a strictly no book buying budget. All my books come from the library right now, when i used to spend a big portion of my income on books. Luckily the library system here in Charlotte is awesome.

….but the Pats don’t! QOTD – Not much has crushed it lately. I gotta get working on that and an inspirational show like this one certainly will help! 75 bones for an 86 point wine. OUCH!! No wonder I can’t ever get myself to spend more than $20 on a bottle of wine. I just bought your first book yesterday. (Just joined Vay-ner Nation a couple months back.) I would have bought your new book yesterday, but the free shipping doesn’t help me because Massachusetts doesn’t allow you to ship to me. Again…Mass Laws Stink. Nice to see your hard work is paying off Gary!

Good to see you back in the saddle. With the last wine, I’m glad you stuck to your guns, you don’t want to start second guessing yourself, be true to your palette.

Excited for you with the baby and the book.

I feel like I CRUSH IT whenever I have quality time with cool people – which I gotta think there’s at least a few minutes of that every day. I definitely felt I crushed it when I kicked a 52 yd field goal in college with one step (bad snap). And I felt like I crushed it last week while working on a special song (you will definitely hear it).

And way to not bend on J Millers 96pts. Didn’t sway you a bit. That’s crushing your review

Nice to have you back, Gary. I loved the hyper-pumped episode. Nice way to get back into it.

QOTD: My kid voluntarily practiced his piano competition pieces without complaining, he worked hard, and he got noticeably better in just a half hour of work. Music is big in our family, and he’s only eleven, but he CRUSHED IT last night! I don’t even care how he does in the competition. If he can keep bringing like he did last night, he’ll be a HUGE success.

Welcome home Gary! a true Thunder Show…and despite your need to “crush it” you still remained true and “called it the way ya saw it”! I love that; no matter what, you keep it real! I will definitely try the Bandol!

QOTD: I “crush it”, as a parent, teacher, coach, mentor & guide for my boy’s…(their words, not mine)…I’m so proud that they are such fine young men, can’t think of anything that I’d want to succeed at more than this!

QOTD: I can totally think of something that chushed it completely… but it wasn’t so much a good thing… I had an awesome time when I went into the tasting room at Flora Springs in the Napa Valley, the guy who was pouring our wines was so fun an entertaining, I think he totally crushed it! Ya got me, Gary! Still awaiting your REALLY BIG announcement!

QOTD: A couple of weeks ago, I would have said the Thunder Cruise CRUSHED IT, which it absolutely did. But I just returned last night from an awesome few days in San Diego, where my siblings and I, on Mothers’ Day, let my Mom’s ashes fly from the back of a nature cruise boat into the deep, blue waters of the Pacific off the coast of North Island, where Mom was stationed as a Navy Wave during WWII. San Diego was Mom’s favorite place on earth, and her days of service in the Navy her favorite time of life.

The emotional experience of carrying out Mom’s final wishes simply CRUSHED IT!!

The book was the big announcement. The baby will be the next big announcement. The cruise crushed it for me. Wish the first two wines were about 20% cheaper. My wine buying price point has dropped in the last 6 months. Don’t worry about what people say about content. You have pumped out 675 episodes and not many shows do that.

Welcome back Gary! As much as I enjoy the on-the-road format, I much prefer you in the thunder saddle. There seems to be more of a focus on the wine…maybe not in this episode…but that’s cool. Congrats on the book!

QOTD – I recall a young lady (very loose definition of “young lady”) that my partner and I caught in a very tangled web of lies. When we finally sorted all the lies and brought the fact we had nailed her big time, we “Crushed It!!!”. Not the last time but one that truly stands out.

QOTD: Just got back from a wine tasting (trade tasting) with over 500 bottles. Not as varied or comfortable as the Wine Cruise, but the best trade tasting we’ve been to. We spent 2 1/2 hours trying to make sure we got to all the wines we wanted to and were pretty successful.

i totlly agree that $$ doesnt reflect quality, the same thing is true with food, please give me pork belly for 1.50# over filet mignon anyday of the week, filet= what, soft, tender meat with no substance, zero character, pork belly = gv+br bringing the food and wine world new thunder. thanks, Bill

  129. May 15, 2009

“Price has no impact.” I disagree. An increase in costs through improved production methods will be reflected in the retail cost of a wine. For example, new french cost more than oak chips. Temperature controlled stainless steel tanks cost more than cement tanks. I do agree however that there are many wines that are over priced due to prestige and not production costs, which is often the result of wine critics and press.

Congrats on the book, Gary! Loved the show — excitement is always a good thing in my book. :-) So many people try to act nonchalant and “too cool for school” when they’re really pumped inside — I say let it out! :-)

Really want to try that Bandol, Mouvedre is one of my favorite grapes! Too bad about the Priorat, but perhaps it would have been better decanted for awhile? Have you ever done a show where you had two bottles of the same one — one just opened and one decanted for a few hours? Would love to see that!

Ok, so I’ll admit I have not been the dedicated Vayniac I once was. School keeps me busy and broke students have little money for any extras, sadly this includes vino. However, as a business student I can always open my wallet for educational investments. Thank you for writing Crush it GV. I’ll be sending you a review in the coming weeks.
I mentioned buying wine has been tough lately, however I still have the spirit to explore wines and expand the pal. I will be spending next semester in Japan, and thought it would be appropriate to dabble into some Saki. See where I’m going with this?

I had to come back to remember what you said about the Bandol. Having it now with grilled pork loin and a Provencal Marinated Fennel salad you hit it right on the head with your “new car smell,” “blueberries dancing on your tongue” and smoooooth finish. For my palate, it is not 95 pts but I’m with you on 92. Gorgeous Bandol. Man o man, the reason I love you. Hit it out on this one.

Dianne at Blizzard customer service totally CRUSHED it! Had a problem, was a little pissed, called, was calmed down, smiled, fixed problem, hung up and now I sing the praises of Blizzard’s support team. If there is one are for Americans to get their heads out of their bungholes and start “crushing” it in it’s customer service. I’m simply appauled at how utterly horrific the customer service is in California (both Nor and So).

Man, don’t even get me started. But some dishonorable mentions go out to Figueroa Hotel, L.A.; Gateway Marriot LAX, L.A., and Stix, Pebble Beach, Monterey.

CRUSHING IT shout outs to: La Bicyclette, Carmel-by-the-Sea (great food to boot), Granzella’s; Ricardo’s, Chico, Ca….

I really like the Bandol wines – Domaine Tempier is definitely one of my “go to” wines. I have not had many Priorats, although the Solanes was really good and I still have a few in my cellar.

QOTD – 2 recent events – My daughter finished her first year of college with a 3.5 GPA (not too shabby) and my son has been described as having “perfect pitch”, he is very musically inclined. Family is always #1.

Congratulations on the new book GV!!! I wish I would have seen this episode sooner.

You know, it’s been a couple of weeks since i watched the show, and this happens time and time again, but I come back to a great show and it’s like I absolutely know why I come back. Especially to hear these amazing analogies, like baby blueberries on E at a rave with glow sticks. Only Gary Vaynerchuk.

QOTD: Last night in Florence crushed it pretty hard, and i’m looking forward to doing all over again tonight!

  154. May 26, 2009

What’s the deal with viewers leaving unconstructive comments criticizing the show? Positive, constructive comments are one thing, but after 600+ episodes people seem to be taking things for granted and feel like they deserve something for their money. Normally, that is fine, but the last time I checked the show is FREE. If you don’t like it, don’t watch. Don’t be a jackass and bite the hand that give you a free education.
