Great review on the Esporao Reserva 2006! Unfortunately it’s sold out on Gary’s website, but you can purchase it on http://www.Portuguesewinehouse.com

JenB: Here are my picks for tasting rooms/tours “experiences” in Napa. Granted, my opinions.

    1) Beringer
    2) Domaine Carneros
    3) Darioush
    4) Del Dotto
    5) Schramsberg
    6) Grgich Hills (for your husband or significant other, the staff is gorgeous and their Chard is amazing)

Last but not least, you have to stop by Mondavi.

I love the show and your passion! No Mic! Genuine and real! The Wayne G was the only one you needed lapel mics on.

Shooting video is what pays for my wine. You can trust me on this one. Radio mic’s are a last resort for when the talent (that’s you babes) is on the move and a good system will cost twice as much as the best Sennheizer directional mic’ that Mot can mount on his camera (though he may need another bracket). If you want to improve your audio, that’s the way to go… or maybe just a good wired clip mic’ but you’ll get tangled up in it and it will piss you off AND THE OTHER THING TO REMEMBER IS THAT USING JUST A CLIP MIC’ WILL MEAN HEARING LESS OF MOT! I say go the other way and have a dedicated Mot cam’. Peace and Love – a.

Wear a mic, I think it will sound so much better. There are times when you are reaching around or picking up the bottles that your voice isn’t heard that well

no mic required. more South African wines please. your review of Kanonkop was spot-on. Great wine. check out @simonback from Backsberg wines – some winners from his estate.

QOTD – HOME – No. AWAY – Yes. Damn hard to win on the road, GV.

K man lighten up. We know Gary wants to be a billion dollar Jets owner and that is a little sad. Where else are you going to get his kind of sincere passion and knowledge? Some things may have changed a little but almost everyday he is there pumping out the serious content for us. No charge. Most of us are or have been customers and we bitch a little now and then but WE are gonna change the friggin wine world. He also has some of the best prices in the world.

I wanted to try the 2006 Esporao Reserva Red…yeah too bad its sold out!

    YES mic.
My husband and I have been saying this for months and I was going to email you about it.
    Glad you brought it up.

It seems like I’ve focused so much on Portugal lately that I need to try something else to expand my pallet… yet you pull me back in.

QOTD: No mic when in your controlled office area. But when on location a mic would be nice. Your voice can carry well enough, but sometimes you fight echoes and when you have guests, their voices may not stand up to yours – thus I’m volume up… volume down… repeat when wearing headphones.

Enjoyed the show. As you might know, I am a little partial to Portugal, especially, the Alentejo region since my wife’s family has roots there.

Really liked the Esporao 2006. Actually, preferred it over a Cali Cab(which are my favorites) at a Baptism recently.

Gary, love your Pronounciation of Alentejo. The J isn’t silent more of a zhu(slight sshh) to it. AL-en-te-zhu.

You’re the best G; Keep it up with “No Mic”.

It’s too bad. Gary seems to just be turning himself into a business. Putting up all the facebook “buy my book now, spread the word now” stuff. You people don’t realize but youre getting sucked in only so he makes more money.

It’s not the same Gary as I knew from years ago when I first started watching. I’ve been a fan since episode 14 and it’s not the same anymore…. Oh well.

    No

    Hey Gary

Definitely YES on the mic. Especially when you have guests, or when you are on location in places where it’s tough to hear.

Wondering what happened to the episode today?…….

is there a new arrival perhaps? :)

Great show today Gary! Really glad you’re tasting and showing everyone different areas, I will definitely try to get my hands on the 2006 Esporao Reserva Red :)

QOTD: I think you are fine without wearing a mic, you usually speak loud enough to hear perfectly

  17. May 20, 2009

    Elias

once again great pace! no mic please…

You had me giggling when you went back to the Esporao. That was definitely a little mental massage break.

Do not use a mike. I listen to your show with headphones, so if got a mike, I would have to turn the volume WAAAYYYYY down.

I’m new to your show and really enjoy your boundless energy, enthusiasm and unique way of describing your tasting experiences. Keep up the good work.

Aside Question: My husband and I are going to NAPA for the first time over Memorial Day. I got an appointment to visit Orin Swifts Tasting room. Anyone have any other recommendations to visit?

  19. May 20, 2009

    Matt Theophilos

No, don’t use a wireless mic. It’s going to cut out Mott’s interaction and it’s really not needed. You sound fine.

    gary-

go with the mic. it sounds so much better especially when you are in an off-site location. love the show and i am buying copies of crush it for my co-workers. i know it will take our organization to the next level.

    keep it up!

QOTD: No. You’ve got the pipes to carry the show without.

  22. May 20, 2009

    OmarG

Gary…you’re loud enough…don’t mic up! Just give Mott a glass already!
    (actually…when you’re at a venue or outdoors…use the mic)

    Great episode! Love Portugal (Carm!!!)
Wife and I just had our 2nd last week (our little girl Maia) so I know how the phone watch is…best of luck and dude…

    get your sleep in now.

    LOVE the fun facts, GV.

QOTD: Skip the mic, sweet thing. Think breast enhancements — if you job up a great rack, you gain volume and sacrifice quality. Au natural wins every day of the week in my opinion.

  24. May 20, 2009

    Ryan

    Yes, wear a wireless mic

  25. May 20, 2009

    yowens

No Joke GV, one of your best shows. Must be the baby excitement. BTW, best wishes from Tara and myself. Man do we need to get into Portugal! QOTD: Mikeless, baby, mikeless!
