QOTD: Gary this is simple. when you are at Wine Library no need, when you are anywhere else a most definite yes.

    QOTD: please, no mike!!

BTW: just learning Portugal for my WSET-Diploma-studies and regularily getting mixed up with all the “new” grape-varieties.

    Cheers from Germany!

QOTD: No, audio is great already.. also the novelty of the close up sucking and spitting sound wears off pretty quick.

ps time for another blind tasting?

QOTD: You sound ok with or without the mike, so I’m on the fence :)

    Hi Mate,

Shirt mic not an issue. Is High Def and option for the recordings? I’m sure MOTT would love some new toys.

    Pre-congrats on the bubs!

Hope to touch base with you when I move to the US in June.

I agree. Also here in the UK, I think Portugal offers the best value for money. I’d love to see you do an episode on Sardinian wines.

QOTD: I don’t think you need the mic. for your office recordings, but yes when you are are on location, especially where there’s an audience.

Showing the wine against the white paper is good, just needs more direct light.

QTOD….Mic? Why? You’re not moving around that much? Maybe when you have a guest? But why make it more complicated than it needs to be right? Sounds good over here in LA. Thank you! No, thank you.

Yo Gary! Keep up the great work.

No lav mic. It will probably peak too much when you get excited and since you are indoors you don’t have to worry too much about nat sound.

First half of the show you seemed a little out of it, but you really crushed it after the first wine. The quiet moment was like the eye of the storm on the thundershow! Cracked me up.

QOTD: No mic Gary! You seemed a little quieter this episode, perhaps it was because you didn’t want to explode our ears with your Passion(emphasis on the P) amplified by a mic. Sometimes you appreciate an explosion in your ears though!

You seemed a little off your game compared to yesterday….BUT always great that somebody does this for free almost every day. Unbelievable. It’s very much appreciated.
Oh yeah, and the wines. Awesome, thank you!

GV – I agree w/ David T (@ONUMello) who posted above me, you should to do a Vinho Verde show! My girlfriend enjoys them quite a bit so I’d like to get some recommendations.

Gary – these wines are crushing it, you’re on a roll this week! I had a Chilean Merlot last night that knocked my socks off. Montes Alpha 2006 Merlot Single Vineyard (Colchagua Valley). It had TREMENDOUS amounts of tobacco on the nose and delicious cherry on the palate. Smooth finish too.

QOTD: No mic. Sounds perfectly fine when you’re in the Thunder Saddle. Also, I liked the amount of objects thrown at the camera today, I didn’t count but I think you had at least 4.

-I liked seeing the color on the white paper. Didn’t you do that WAY back in the day??
-For more Portugal love, you should do a Vinho Verde show. I don’t know if you ever have!?!
-QOTD: Why do you need a mike? We can hear you just fine. My vote = no.

2007 Esteva Douro (Casa Ferreirinha) Red. One of the best wines I ever drank from Portugal and the price is incredible low. Anyone knows where to find this great wine here in the States?

    Super content! Thank you!

Leave the mic off, it would feel like your spitting on us when you say “most “P”assionate wine “P”rogram”! I think we can hear you just fine. Except maybe when you are on location, then it would probably make for better sound.

White page doesn’t do much from this end. Better stick to reading the comments.

The esporao has me very interested.

No mic needed (or wanted) – Gary comes through loud and clear…which is a good thing.

Hi, QOTD no need for the mic except on those remote shows with an audience. I am trying Portuguese wines from the Douro Valley as there is a Altano Douro for around $8. I’ll have to seek out Alentejo.

When are you going to explore Bulgarian and wines from the Crimea (Massandra). Here in SF I see them in the Russian stores and would like to hear you take on them before I embark on a fuller exploration. They seem to be getting more exposure as I see my little corner store carrying them with a special promotion.

GV – you got me thinking about the phases of WLTV… I’ve been watching for about 400 shows now. I would agree that some time periods are better than others. I really like the regular style shows (like the last two), but appreciate everything from the blind taste-offs, the single-wine spotlights, the head-to-head battles, and the ‘away’ games (at stadiums, wineries, conferences). I know you have been traveling more and more over the past 12 months, but I REALLY enjoyed the run of shows around the 2 biodynamic shows (the French guy and the California/Danish couple). Those were really good…

Otherwise, you need to get back to the couch on Fridays (incidentally, the site of the best line you’ve probably ever said, “this wine has more wood than a 9th grade gym class”).

QOTD – In your office, no mic.

Another great episode. The area I am in does not bring in much french wine let alone wines from Portugal but I will look for the Esporao.

QOTD: No need for a mic unless your in a noisy room.

    De Nada.
QOTD: A mic will give you better quality audio if it’s done right, but it’s not bad now. Also, when having a guest, a mic can be a real pain…
