Totally killer show. Love Spain, but whats up with 80% Cab? I will totally break into the first 10 comments next show. I really hope that you don’t stop production. I totally show some episodes to my European High School Class!

Well, Thanks for the past shows, FREE by the way. And thanks for the education, FREE by the way. Thanks for being you at NO CHARGE. I’m feeling guilty watching you every night without paying for the privilege. I guess spending $$$ at the library every time I come to NJ just isn’t enough. Good Luck and I will be looking for the GV stamped on the moon when you buy it. This is F Jackie signing off.

Great show today Gary, as always! I really enjoy the blind tastings because it’s a lot of fun to see your reaction and ratings without knowing anything besides where it’s from, so it’s unbiased! This really was the best blind tasting on WLTV so far, I remember watching the college one and that was abysmal, but in the end it’s all great knowledge to have so thank you for continuously pumping out great content! I’ve been watching for quite a long time but I don’t want to lurk anymore :P

QOTD- Haircut looks great! Short hair is great in this warm weather, I gotta get one soon @_@

Damn you got the cab right on the first wine! Awesome show, I love your blind tasting episodes.

Oh btw, no QOTD?! WTF? (Just kidding)

On a sidenote, I can’t believe that people have a problem with you crushing it (there I said it!), and using your show to promote, more good stuff you do! It’s not like you are rating wines more coz you got money from a vineyard or something! Just saying don’t get what the fuss is all about?

I look forward to more great shows (don’t pull the plug until atleast 1K!), and waiting for your book to arrive (yup ordered it!)

    Wow!

    Gary,
I was all set to leave a comment, then I heard you say that I should “bring a little creative thunder” if I want it to be read.
Are you saying that my comments are not creative?
That makes me a little sad inside.
No worries, though. You probably won’t be reading this one either.

    QOTD: It’s cool.

    I like the hair!

If I said I loved it…well then i’d be odd.

Everyone at work says i’m my old bosses protege andd then i got short hair like him and not i can’t escape from the tag ‘little jonnie’ but I like my short hair and im going to stick with it.

GARY do you speak any other languages? If you do, do you use it in your work? If not do you wish you could?

    Gary,

Sent you an email 2 weeks ago but based on what you said on today’s episode I have a feeling you didn’t read. I came across this person in a video series in the NYT and immediately thought of you and the possibility of having her on as a possible guest of WLTV. Alexandra Elman is a 40 year old “wine taster” living in the Upper East Side of NYC who happens to be blind. After listening to her story (2 minute audio link below) I thought she was a real gem and could provide new insite to the Vayner Nation. Her current clients are Tia Pol, Solera, Cru, Pure Food and Wine, NY Athletic Club, and Chambers Street Wine.

Cheers from a long time WLTV fan (over 2 years) who continues to expand his palate. (currently loving Portugese wines from the Dao region)

Have a wonderful holiday weekend and good luck to you and Lizzy! I’m guessing Monday, Memorial Day. How cool would that be?

hey gv, first off congrats on the baby vaynerchuk, when he or she arrives, you will be absolutely blow away. i have twin 4year olds who will soon be my step daughter in october. i have raised then since they were one, it is the best thing that has ever happened in my life, and it will be the best thing that will ever happen in yours. at least for this discussion, we will have to put buying the jets in a different light. love priorat, love spain, love wltv, wish you and lizzie a fantastic future. god bless. you will be a natural, its in the jeans.
    thanks, bill

Way to call the Cabernet on wine #1, though you did say that it wasn’t a cab at the end :)

Great show, need to find some Priorat!

    QOTD: Hair?

Holy crap Gary Pig farts?! I totally spit wine on my keyboard!

Great show, it just blows my mind that you and Jay Miller can be that far apart on a score…when folks buy by the rating (which I do sometimes) that’s just nuts!

QOTD: Nice do buddy, I’ve always gone to a woman to get my hair cut…but a couple months ago I had something to go to, and I needed a haircut really bad, and my beard was pretty stragley, so I dropped into the barber shop…it was such a good cut/shave/trim that I went back yesterday.

    Gary,

This is why I watch your episodes.

Your knowledge is helping me to expand my wine world and definately changing my little corner.

You are growing (as you have to) and your priorities will change (as will all of ours as well).

I hope that you can continue this series as long as possible, being a little selfish, I want all the knowledge I can get.

But even if you had to stop tomorrow, know that you have helped me so much and I will continue to grow in my wine knowledge.

QOTD – The cut is good.

Do more vertical tastings. It is great to see how vineyards change year on year and how winemakers change their methods based on fruit quality.

Gary V: I’ve been a lurker for almost two years now and this is my first comment. Sorry for the long delay, by the way. I was about to send you an email requesting a Priorat episode as it was LONG overdue, if you ask me, and then here it is. Thank you for that, I loved it, one of my favorite episodes by far. Your comment about no more shows got me kind of worried but, it is what is, if it happens (Damn, I hope you were kidding). I take this opportunity to thank you for your commitment and vision but, most importantly, for staying humble in the midst of your success. Keep up the excellent work. Thanks, Jerry S.

Hmmm… about to retire from email responding? Must be a TV show deal to announce. :)

Saw “Maynard” note in your email screenshot on the gv.com piece you posted last week… then this week the announcement about his bottle signing at WineLibrary.

This week the hint about retiring from email…. next week a TV show announcement perhaps? Hmmmm…

Between that and the baby, who can blame ya?

Here’s hoping you keep WLTV going throughout, even if it becomes a once or twice a week afair.

Wishing you all the best. 8)

Hey Gary, great show! Love the blind format.

Listen man, don’t worry about people complaining about how you’re “commercializing” your show. All of us appreciate how much great content you pump out for free. If you want to take a few minutes out of one episode to promote your book (a book that a lot of us fans would probably be interested in), you’ve more than earned it after 680 episodes.

However, one piece of constructive criticism: I really enjoy you reading out comments on the show, but maybe think about cutting it down by a minute or two. We came here for wine, and we want wine! :) You could also maybe move it around, like read a few in the beginning and a few at the end.

Regardless, here’s wishing you and Lizzie a beautiful and healthy baby. Keep up the great work,

    -Zach J

    Awesome !
Priorat is a favorite of mine, many of them in fact are strong full bodied wines, something I opt for in Spanish wines. ( Rioja and Campo de Borja being the other two “in your face tannins” denominations)

QOTD: Nice haircut, it does look good on you.

PS. We’ve been buying Solanes, Manyetes and Rotllan Torra between $22 and $90 USD and have never had a problem with the different vintages we’ve tried, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2004.

    GV,
You expressed a possiblity of ending WLTV. I can certainly understand why that would be the case with your busy life and a baby on the way. IMHO you should take a break when the baby arrives because you, your family, and the baby will deserve it. However, as a fan, I would love for you to continue WLTV. Even if it is just one show a week or shorter shows, we love the content and appreciate your hustle. That said, you do as you must and the real Vayniacs will understand. If not, they miss the whole point and are unappreciative of your FREE content.

    Glen....winecrazy.com

    I call this comment…Thunder Road.

After hearing that email from the guy complaining you are sucking us in and selling books I know that A: He has never wrote a book, or B: He has never read one….. because if he thinks you are making money on selling books he must be from Kansas…. I mean really….when you are doing $50,000.000.00 a year in sales….hello!!!…..the profits from that book is like being on welfare. There is no money in books.

Then to even bother putting you down for giving him the knowledge…FREE…that you have put out there for so long….or even if he is just entertained by watching this show….FREE…. then he should just not watch, say he’s sorry and go away. He’s probably been watching to long anyway.

As for me…..I’ll be here watching and loving every show because I can appreciate what you are doing. Who films all over the world for free?? I mean if and when you do make enough to go to the moon…..I’m sure you’ll be doing a show from there…..FREE….and me being sucked in will be right here watching.

Thanks for all you do Gary….and being a self proclaimed SUCKER….I must thank you for what you provide here every day. It’s knowledge, entertaining, and just good clean fun. You bring laughter and joy to many people and you should not apologize for it. He doesn’t have to watch the show….nor does he need to complain about it.

Me….I would ban that guy from even being able to watch any more shows. But that’s just how I roll. I have no patience for ignorance or jealousy. I think you answered that much better than I would have…..because I would have told that guy…..well…I’m sure you can imagine… you know me by now…. :)

QOTD….you mean what’s left of it right??

  83. May 21, 2009

    Kelly Goff

Gary, I have to say that I have been slacking in my loyal watching and commenting every day and have been sympathetic to K-Man’s opinion. On the other hand, this type of episode is what WLTV is all about! Fun, knowledge, a sense of your character, and good wine. While I will be sad when (and I say when) you stop doing this, I hope that we have some opportunity to watch you grow as you raise your daughter(I am holding firm on the gender) and achieve your goals. I will be there cheering you on! I believe that your hand may pull out of some the many pots that it is in now. A baby really does change everything! Wish Lizzy good mommy luck from me.

Dig the show, dig the haircut, but don’t dig the striped shirt on video. At certain points when you moved it was playing with my eyes almost making me go into a seizure. Big ups to the big-ass glass!

Love love love the blind tastings, forever and always. My favorite episodes every time.

And just keep doing this as long as you have the passion for it. The day you dread putting out another video is the day you should walk away or pass on the baton. As long as you enjoy it though I don’t see the problem.

I just started watching and I adore you. I thought that you should know.
QOTD: I approve on the haircut

“Candied grenadine meets pomegranate”. Grenadine is made from pomegranate and sugar. How can you have candied grenadine? Does not compute. Is it just pure sugar with a drop of pomegranate? You definitely said that wine number 1 reminded you of a california cab. ^_^ Also, “Pig Fart” needs to be a t-shirt. I would wear it everywhere.

Selfishly i’d say STAY and keep pumping out this INCREDIBLE content for as logn as possible.
Pragmatically i’d say you obviously have to do what is right for you. The fact that you have kept this going is a MASSIVE credit to you and your dedication. So I thank you. What will be will be – if little gary junior changes things i guess i’ll have to watch all the episodes again in random order for the next 3 and a half years and pretend they are all new!

QOTD: Funny you ask that, because when winelibrary tv loaded i saw the screenshot and though ‘oh he’s had a haircut’ lol
I like it – nice and sharp.
My hair is at a similar length and has been for a while now and i’m thinking of growing it. (just a random statement for you)

Great show. LOVE the blind tastings!

Awesome pick up on the california cab on #1. That catch brought the thunder as the wines did.

Won’t bash the other comments or commentators (k-man). But I will say this….you bring us boatloads of FREE content. I just searched your ratings to see if you had had an opinion on 2 wines I was choosing between. (Both not rated by you, but that’s cool). I am going to go out on a limb here and say that pound for pound we get more FREE content from you than do paying customers to other sites/magazines. Dare I say, I would even consider paying for some of the wisdom you impart, but please try to keep this as is.. :)

Our son last year changed our life and I know it will change yours..

    GV and fans –

I apologize for sucking up 7+ of the show with Gary talking about my comment. I wasn’t out to hurt anyone’s feeling.

It’s funny to think that I’ve been watching GV since the beginning, I live in CT, and I have NEVER met him! There have been Jet games we’ve been at at the same time but I could never track him down….

    Maybe someday….

Very nice episode this…I like Priorat, though because of the price-point I don’t get to drink em very often… So very useful fieldwork here. Would have loved to see how a Finca Dofi would compare, or a Coma Vella (which comes in at a mere 20 euros here in the Netherlands). Alvaro Palacios is a star where I come from by the way, let’s do a horizontal l’Ermita tasting soon, and let’s invite me over!

KILLER episode with obviously KILLER wines. Interesting how small the Escal bottle looks compared to the others.

Don’t listen to the whispers!! What I would do if I were half as busy as you if necessary: Take one afternoon a month, tape 4-5 episodes from your office & put out one a week. Then take your flipcam wherever you are & just find one or two wines & put out a second show a week, a quick 5-10 minutes. That way everyone wins- less of a commitment for you & the Thunder Show lives.

QOTD: Funny b/c I just got my hair cut yesterday too, and I also got quite a lot taken off so it’s short as well- so I gotta give it two thumbs up.

    So Gary,
Appreciated the honest comments today about you and your branding. You are trying to make money, but why would there be anything wrong with that… Ok, so this is a internet show about wines, of which you are not paid to promote any of them. I think its fine to promote yourself as much as you want. Now, about the show ending.. I really hope it doesn’t… BUT, you really should be bringing this to TV in some medium. I can see a nice late night talk show, centered around wines, but with you garnering a nice salary/paycheck for your years of branding yourself.. If all this is ending soon, I just want to say thanks for opening my eyes to the wine world.. Crush it indeed!!

Great show, love blind tastings and Priorat. Must reccommend Viñedos de Ithaca as a great producer from the area.

QOTD: Grow it out, you know Sampson got his power from his locks.

I am very anxious to try a Priorat.
QOTD: Your hair always looks the same to me. I was just packing stuff to try to get my hair to look OK in the 60% humidity of Charleston and it seemed really desirable to have less hair but it just wouldn’t look as good on me. My friend read that a true traveller puts a toothbrush as a bookmark in his book and just goes. I’ll bet you could do that.

Great episode. Love Priorat. Where I live I get the Clos Galena for 25 BONES and their lower line Galena Galena for 17 so it isn’t too out there to treat myself. Might I say you CRUSHED IT calling out the cab in wine number 1.

QOTD:Had to get your lettuce chopped for baby pictures! Tight.

Holy shit Gary you did call it… here’s what you said about Wine #1:

Wine 1: Beets, candy nose, mocha coffee, good length, good minerality, dark chocolate, WHAT I WISH A CALIFORNIA CAB WOULD TASTE LIKE

    GREAT JOB MAN, IMPRESSIVE!

The Blind Tasting Shows are the best. You need to do more of them! Set up some challenge for yourself like price the wine or region. You are really good at that stuff and it’s a fun show.

    Haircut good.

It’s almost sad–but perfectly understandable–to think that sometime soon you’ll be too big of a star and too busy with your family to read and respond to your e-mails. You’ve really made it to the big time and it wasn’t thanks to anything but genuine hard work. Most people only get to know “famous” people once they’re famous, but we got to know you before you shouted into the camera and had an onslaught of international followers. That should make you feel good. Thanks for everything; I’ll be watching til the end.

Hair looks the same (sorry). Agree with Kelly below that I love this type of episode – a lot of focus and knowledge on a particular area or varietal beamed right from your brain to mine. Too bad these wines are out of my price range.

Loved the blind tasting! Gotta try some Priorat now.

    Good hair.

You are a busy man and have earned every bit of your success. I’m sure everyone would understand if you have to cut back to just a couple shows a week, at least we would all still get our thunder fix :) And hey I love the Flip cam episodes too.

    Crush IT!

Holy pig farts!! That was a fun show. Loved this episode on Priorat wines. Gotta get me some a’ that stuff.

Hey, you mentioned [last episode] that you are drinking some $7 Portugese wines. How about some names? Solid $7 Portugese juice would bring some real thunder!

I hope you will enjoy being a dad as much as I do. It’s awesome.

    Gary…
I’ve been watching since around episode 200, and I just want to sincerely thank you for your dedication to this wonderful show. I think everyone should be more appreciative of what you do. You’ve been catching some flack from some viewers about your enthusiasm for your new book, and I think it’s totally undeserved. Again, my thanks to you for all of the time you’ve invested in WLTV. It’s very clear that it has little to do with promoting the wines and more to do with enlightening all of us about vino; the good, the bad, the overpriced, and of course… The wines that bring the thunder.

QOTD: I like the hair, really short is good on you.

  116. May 22, 2009

Now you have to do another show with some big ass Cabs. Nice call. The OAK MONSTER will love you if you don’t show your fear. What kind of appelation/D.O.G or whatever lets them use whatever grapes they want? Awesome! Especially in Europe.
I would only take a burgundy car to a POM carwash. Classic!

QOTD: You’re lookin’ good about now (it WAS wine #1).

Gary, you’re the best; don’t over-apologize for the positive changes in your life. Growth and change are essential.

Love the show. And love the Priorat wines. Though lately tend more to DO Montsant (which geographically is a prolongation of Priorat). As great wines as in Priorat, but not overpriced (at least not yet).
Hope to see some of those in your show.

For the hair – I’m more for the ‘longer’ style :-)

I have been with you only a week but been watching archives quite a bit. I think your show would be lovely even if you had much much more marketing in it. Who cares, its a hard world.

I live in Finland and my local Riedel shop salesman suggested your show and said u are totally crazy and hilarious. But I have to say hes a bit crazy too hugging customers and so on. I showed sake-episode to one of my friends and she said u and this salesman are like soulmates. :D

I LOVE the blind tastings. And it was great to have the same wine but different vintages in the tasting. Way to go Ian. QOTD: I like it. Got to keep short since the baby is coming. You can’t spend all the time in the mirror every morning like we all know you do. ;-)

I have noticed Priorato wines creeping up in price. Still may favorite wine from Spain (generally speaking).

QOTD: Does your hair length affect your palate? Also, don’t worry about how pretty the label is, it’s what’s in the bottle that counts (metaphor alert!)

Who picked out the wines? Not a grenache-heavy choice in the bunch, and way to crush the cab. Great show, as always! I love the blind tastings. You prove that you know your stuff (assuming you don’t rig them…which I KNOW you would never, ever do…dude, get serious).

I hope WLTV survives the kid. I would certainly understand if it doesn’t, but that would be truly sad. Family first is the way I run my own life, though, so I wouldn’t expect less from you. Good luck, whichever way your life takes you.

    QOTD: Who cares? It’s hair.

  133. May 22, 2009

    Uncle Meate

You really “Smashed It” today Gary !!! Your cabernet call on wine #1 was almost like you had E.S.P…..N. Definitely “Smashed It” !!!

On the topic of WLTV – ‘All good things must come to an end’ although we wish they wouldn’t. That’s why I savor the good times like a fine wine.

QOTD: Grow your hair out to a length about down your beltline, then pull it all back into a ponytail (Steven Seagal-esque). “Smashed It”

PS – I just finished my book on sour mash bourbon called “Smashed It”.

  134. May 22, 2009

    jigger

WLTV might not survive the baby? Wow . . . that is a lot of pressure to put on your kid. You sure you want him or her to go through life as the reason that WLTV ended? I mean, its understandable that later in life you might blame a kid for having to use your camero fund for college, or for your weight gain or hair loss, but for single handedly axing our beloved shows? Ouch. No need to worry though. Its Jersey and your the boss of the V-Nation family. You’re much more likely to find yourself going out saying “Mott, I know it was you Mott. . . you broke my heart”

Thanks for all the knowledge and passion over the years. We’ll take it as long as we can get it.

QOTD: Like that you keep the lettuce tight. Peace.

First – haven’t said this yet – but best of luck to you and Lizzie during the next few weeks!

Second – wanted to thank you again for the massive amount of content over the years. It has be very enjoyable (most of the time!), especially the great guests, the educational info, the wine vocab lessons, the wine recommendations, the laughs. It will be a sad day when WLTV shuts down.

Third – where have the shout-outs gone? I understand, your email crunch.

    QOTD – Looks good.

  139. May 22, 2009

To me your greatest strength will always be tasting and breaking down wine, so continue on with it in whatever capacity possible, and make it pay gajillions if you can.

QOTD: You hair is great short– I remember you had some weird hair days back in the early hundreds. Much better short.

  140. May 22, 2009

QOTD: Did notice the “do” before you mentioned it. Looks good. Seasonal.

Another fantastic show. Didn’t know the grape-breakdown on Priorat was a high percentage of grenache–which happens to be one of my favorites. I’ll have to pay attention more to these wines. I had the Vall Lach (probably the ‘05) at the Grand Tasting in Oct. and liked it, but thought otherwise about purchasing it because the price sheet said it was 80 bones. In any case, several alternatives to choose from for a lot less as you have proved in yet another excellent blind-tasting show.

  141. May 22, 2009

Way to nail the Cab blend Gary. DEFINITELY gonna have to get me a couple bottles of Priorat immediately. Purchasing some as we speak – very impressed.

QOTD: Digging the haircut. I need one myself.

  142. May 22, 2009

Love the Spainish power plays, Priorat by far the star player for the momement in the world market, but dont limit to just the regions red grapes, there are a few amazing (and under priced) white wines comming from this area as well: Mas Igneus “Barranc dels Closos” $20 :Conreria d’Scala Dei “Les Brugueres” $28 and these are just what i have at home!
    But as always CRUSH IT

This episode is priceless. I love Priorat, and of course, I lean more toward the Grenache-based ones. I tasted the Vega Escal Priorat 2005 during the Grand Tasting on the Thunder Cruise. I did not like it nearly as much. Gave it an 84pt score, and found it to be a little bit disjointed. I tried to buy a Clos Galena in the online store, and there’re two, same name, same vintage, obviously different prices, and I mistakenly picked the one that is on futures, and since I was using the Crush it promo code, I could not buy it. QOTD. I did notice the haircut right away, and it’s interesting because I got my haircut yesterday also, so we could have had it done at the same time. It’s not a manly thing to comment about another man’s looks, but Concepcion thinks that you look better with a little bit more carpet on the top floor. Great, great blind tasting show!

    ***GARY***(wonder if you’re reading this?),

Fantastic on hitting the Cabernet. First thing I did was check that as soon as the video was done. Really, super cool. Let me second so many of the comments here. WHY I HAVE BEEN WATCHING SINCE EPISODE #1 is simple. You’re good at tasting, and you’re often informative. You’ve got loads of energy. Today’s tasting notes were great. I have always loved the fact that supposedly “great wines” often receive low scores. You calls ‘em as you tastes ‘em, and that’s why I watch.

QOTD: It’s a haircut. It looks good, but not a real radical departure from styles of the past. It’s no Mohawk.

    R/Eason (Boston)

  147. May 22, 2009

    DaveyDonut

I love Priorat… but not how you always describe them. You’re always saying how they’re massive, bombastic wines. That is certainly the new trend there, with Jay Miller blowing up every single wine he tastes. However, there is still plenty of old school Priorat that is more like your 5th wine today… lighter bodied, subtle, and amazingly sublime in its approach. This is the type of Priorat that I love. It’s harder to find these days (and I certainly stay away from the Jay Miller 94+ point ones), but let us not forget this style… surely you’ve had way more Priorat than me, but every time you talk about it you talk about how big they are. Not always so…

QOTD: The hair is too short.

Greetings Vayno: Your current hair style is much better than your earlier spiked punked look. Mine is about the same; you could do this cut very easily yourself with an electric clipper.
About your opening comments: I have watched every episode, and I love the way you ‘go with the flow’, like a twig on the shoulder of a mighty river! Again, it is your show and you do it well; no need to keep asking us to critique your performance. You rock the house!

Unbelievable. To call that Pasanau cab-like, and then find out that it is 80% cab. These are the subtleties of your genius that go unnoticed and unrecognized. The next time my wife says, are you watching that idiot again? I will point to instances like this one to prove her wrong. (Direct Quote, not trying to bash, she is not a Veyniak like the rest of us)
By the way, we just had a daughter 4 months ago. Get ready my friend because life as you know it will never be the same. You may find your hair even shorter as you start to pull some of it out trying to calm the new baby!!!!

Descriptions of wines #3 and #4 were classic GV! Nobody else can get away with comparing a wine to a cookie cutter graduation speech and then come back with the “pomegranete carwash” and “pig fart” comments. Love it.

Really liked today’s show. Back to the old WLTV blind tasting format and focused on one wine style.

Been watching WLTV since 07 – and would like you to keep it alive maybe once or twice a week. WLTV is part of the reason for your popularity and now tight schedule. Don’t quit on it, but keep it going at a more modest pace. I look forward to shows like you did today.

Waiting for the phone to ring on camera. By the way it was wine #1. Great catch on the cabernet. Have had the Vega Escal, and my rating was only 86 so we don’t quite agree on that one. Want to get the number 1 and 2. Even at $40 for Priorat they aren’t bad in price. Looks to me like the hair is getting a little less with each cut. Before too long you will have my haircut.

Thanks for the great show. I like Priorat but the price usually keeps me away. There are usually other wines I’d rather spend $40-$50 on. I noticed that in the beginning of the show you said only a little Cabernet Sauvignon could be used which is not true (one of the wines you tasted was 80% cab sauv). Maybe if you become too busy to do so many shows you can scale it back to once or twice a week. If not, I understand.

Jay Miller like Halliday from Australia.. subtract 4-5 pts from every rating..
they always rate too hight …. especially fruitbombs

Gary, if you need to pull back your hours, please prioritize the show over returning emails ;) We can make that sacrifice to keep the show going. Also, why don’t you start developing a stand-in? We’d love to see a 100% Mott show!

I wouldn’t call that lack of Grenache an anomaly, or bad palate call on you… I’m in general, not into Carignan’s over ripe fruitiness, but in Priorat, they are the greatest in their blending to moderate it’s off putting, and generally (to me) inferior effects.
The simple little Onix was $10 about a dozen years ago, and I dug that as a ‘Tues./Wed. nighter’.
    Q – hair’s ok.

    Awesome blind tasting.

QOTD: Hair looks good. Would look even better with a beard.

Moiré Pattern Alert!!!! I love your program, careful with that shirt, stripes make moiré pattern on the camera.

These are the 2 Priorats I have in “my” PA Wine & Spirits store. I love Priorat but they run too pricey for the average PLCB store. These two are quite good though.

    Code: 026200
Description: BUIL & GINE PRIORAT 06
    Size: 750ML
    Price: $16.99

    Code: 005114
Description: MAS IGNEUS BARRANC DELS CLOSOS PRIORAT RED
    Size: 750ML
    Price: $17.99 (Sale price)

QOTD: like the hair short…I wish my son still liked the short cuts

  182. May 22, 2009

    Little Jonny

Sweet show! I can’t remember another Priorat episode (or at least one this good), and neat variety of blends coming from the region.

QOTD: Not too different. If you’d get a ‘hawk or maybe even a faux-hawk, then I’d be pumped!

  183. May 22, 2009

    sam

Yes!!!!It was wine #1 that Gary thought was a calif cab!

    Like the hair man!

You know Gary, I’ve been watching for about 350 or more episodes and after today’s “bashing” of what the show has become, by one of the commentors, all I have to say is: DO WHAT YOU DO! If people don’t like it, they can stop watching!

Is it just me or is the shirt doing something trippy with the camera?

  184. May 22, 2009

    Jon Martinez

That must be a $50 haircut. Sharp!! Loved the show. I am a super fan of Priorat and Grenache for about 6 years. This episode got me a little worried though. I was hoping to send some wine in the coming months for you to review. I will also be coming out with two different single vineyard designate Grenache wines early next year. One from Boushey Vineyard in the Yakima Valley and the other from Alder Ridge Vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills. I hope you can get a chance to try them. I have been a big fan for a long time, though I am what you call a lurker. I don’t always leave comments, but I tell everyone, including my customers about the show. Cheers.

Not entirely sure what you mean about stopping WLTV but that would make me mega sad. I value these shows tremendously in my quest for wine knowledge!

    QOTD: Sure, mix it up.

  186. May 22, 2009

    Ron

Who notices guy haircuts? Sure, it looks fine.

Good call on the cab in wine #1 is all I have to say. One day I’m going to have that killer of a palate.

    Bruce Schaller

QOTD: I just got mine done yesterday. Change is good.

I don’t think that promoting your book is bad, I’m sure you’re proud of it. When you talk about the fact you’re about to have a kid, it doesn’t pertain to wine, but you should be proud of your accomplishments. If peeps happen to be able to buy it (the book, not the kid =P ), eh, their tough luck.

    Ya know?

  188. May 22, 2009

that shirt plays hell on the eyes while watching!! But a great show!

  189. May 23, 2009

    Harry

No comment on the hair, but I have to vote against the shirt like a few others. Something about the stripes does not work on camera.
Great show, with strong knowledge, excellent tasting notes, all paced well. Hope you’ll find a way to keep it going with all the good things 2009 is bringing your way.

  190. May 23, 2009

    John D.

Had to leave a comment Gary. I hope you’re reading comments from prior episodes! Great episode. I love Priorat. So thanks.

QOTD: I’m digging the hair. It’s summer here in FL, and I always cut mine pretty short this time of year, though a hair (pardon the pun!) longer than yours.

On another note, I spend a lot of time viewing the archives and watching your current shows. You’re a big reason why I’ve gotten into wine the past couple years. I’ve learned more watching your show than I could have possibly imagined and tried (and loved) wines from areas I had never heard of. It’s no longer intimidating and I’ve met great people along the way and gotten friends into wine as well. We just had a Spanish tasting the other night, lots of fun! And yes, things have changed on WLTV over the years. So frickin’ what?!

To be honest, nothing comes before family and faith. Becoming a father is a seminal moment. All we Vayniacs can be grateful for is the time, passion and knowledge you’ve brought to us. You’re a roller and a shaker with a keen eye to where things are going. I certainly wish you the very best in whatever endeavor you embark upon.

By the way, you will be a great father. I know you won’t, but continue to embrace your ‘old world, old school’ upbringing when the little one arrives. We enjoy life as we do now because of those values.

    Take care and thanks again!

Never had Priorat yet but will try some soon. Love the theme as I just took the wife out for our 5 yr anniversary tonight to Rioja in Denver- best Spanish restaurant in town. btw- don’t ditch wltv for other business opps. Where would Donald Trump be if he stopped doing real estate? Know what i mean? He finds a way to do TV, branding, business training, speaking…AND real estate. Find a way to keep wltv going. It’ll pay dividends for you in the long run.

THat was the best episode in the 600’s, imho. Expensive? Kind of. Compared to Cali cabs or Bordeaux and Burgandy, 30-40 bones is dirt cheap for 90+ big boys like that.

  196. May 23, 2009

    TommyB

Great region to cover Gary – love the blind tasting episodes but pleeeease, ask Mott to do an “Oak Monster” montage from yourself in past episodes – even only for a couple of minutes – it would make my year!

  197. May 23, 2009

    yowens

Dude, I just checked, it was wine one. Solid call. Very cool episode, I need to quit my job and move to Spain. QOTD: Into it.

  198. May 23, 2009

    Laura

Gary, don’t you dare listen to the whispers telling you to stop doing the show!

I’m a sales rep – and tell restaurant staff to check out your show to get young people pumped about selling wine.

Love when you feel the wine is drinking you instead of you drinking it!

QOTD: You look great! Short hair suits you!

  199. May 24, 2009

    Pangaea

I love the non-American/French wine episodes.

QOTD: The hair? Your hair? I think you should adopt the same look as fellow Belarusian, Andre Arlovski.

YOU CALLED THE FIRST WINE! CABERNET INDEED, SIR. That was fun to go back and watch. I’ve been doing some blind tasting for my level 2 sommelier course test and THAT would’ve gotten me super pumped as well. Gotta love when you call it. ALMOST AS GOOD AS MOTT’S TRASH BASKET SHOT!

QOTD: Not bad, but pretty much the same, only shorter… right? I mean I like it and all, but when it’s that short, we’re essentially just commenting on how we like the shape of your head…right?

  201. May 25, 2009

    Dan-o

GV – enjoyed the show, love the blind tastings. My first experience with Priorat was Solanes, which hit it big in 2003 and 2004. I still have a couple of bottles in my cellar and it is drinking well.

QOTD – I am one of those follically (spelling?) challenged people and I don’t really rate hair. However, I watch your show so much that I can always tell when you get a hair cut and keeping it short is keeping it real.

  202. May 25, 2009

    Great Show GV
Have been watching for a few hundred episodes and have loved the ride. Hope everything goes well with your wife. I just got engaged this weekend.

Keep the shows coming. Love the content and the energy. Keep em coming after the baby is born :)

Haircut is good, fairly standard look for you. Maybe you should bring back the spikey haircut like you used to have it going.

Be good and holy cow why is my X-Box on? ( Just got home and it has been on all day )

  203. May 26, 2009

    Pete G

Wow did you “Crush It” on this show. An instant classic for sure. Oh let me count the ways a) New T shirt material (rocks n sausages, pomegrante car
wash) b) Nailing the 80% cab Pasanau out of the park c) The best blind tasting
probably in WLTV history, and on and on. Great show and BTW if you decide to
pull a Barry Sanders and hang up your WLTV spurs and go out on top well so be it. You’ve done a great service for so long you owe the Vaniyacs nothing.

    QOTD: Luv the doo

  204. May 26, 2009

Solid call on wine#1. QOTD: The heat of summer def. requires short hair…although I liked the old spikey hair. Thanks for the show!

    Gary,

just watched the episode and running to wine store after this email to grab a bottle. you are fueling my passion and spending my money on a rampant pace. Lid looks good. High and tight anbd won’t need another cut anytime soon. Nice call as the next few months you are not about you.

I am at a building on the Gary Nation in SoCal and trying to push a ton of people to your show.

Turned 40 today my man! Happy Bday to me.

You knocked this one out of the park, Gary. I enjoyed the nerdy Priorat introduction, and your email segment was great. Your passion and eloquence were moving; we know you work hard and that you love us all, and I think I speak for the majority of the Vayniacs when I thank you for putting out 680 episodes and wish you the best of luck with your baby and your future career. The sky’s the limit, and we’re all rooting for you :)

QOTD: The haircut is nice and short and it looks good on you.

  207. May 27, 2009

Great show – I’ve enjoyed the few Priorats that I’ve had. Good to see a blind tasting again, as it has been a while.

The idea of no more WLTV is very upsetting, but all good things must come to an end eventually. So my advice would be to end on a high note, and then maybe we’ll see the triumphant return of GV in a feature length film or something.

    QOTD: Great hair cut.

  209. May 28, 2009

    my2cents

Nice job calling the cab in number 1!

I think your hair is about a half inch too short. I cut my own sometime and make it all 1 inch. Keeps you from looking like your head had a five o’clock shadow.

Wine sounds good right now but it is time for bed.

QoTD: Hair looks good and clean.

Great descriptions today Gary… “batman in your mouth”, “characters of charisma”, “pomegraite carwash”, “pig fart”. Your descriptions are often very helpful, as a lot of can identify with your wording moreso than with the high-falutin wine critic jargon.

    Excellent episode!

Loved the show on Priorat, one of my favorite wines. And I learned something. I did not realize there was that much variability in the blends – they were all over the map.

QOTD: Your hair is, um, okay I guess. I don’t usually comment on another guy’s hair. ;-)

Another solid show Gary! I’m heading to Barcelona next weekend so the timing of the episode was fantastic. Will be on the lookout for all five of these superb Priorats. And BIG PROPS to Mott for the trash can swish…it didn’t look like a gimme.
