    Awesome string of shows Gary, the Saki shiz was off the hook… love the more ‘information/guest’ setup, pure reviews are obviously the hook, but the line & sinker are those types of shows for me.

    Gary- first show I’ve watched in going on year, life has just got in the way. Great show, great to back. What I wanted to tell you: I’ve had some great wine in the last year and we bought a house yesterday….one step closer to my dream of a walk in wine cooler!

    First time commenter, short time lurker: After discovering Wine Library by way of a video clip on ask.com three weeks ago, I have a growing Chester Cheetos level of appreciation for the work you guys do. A year ago I went full vino-manic trying to educate myself on wine. Waging a discovery mission as grand as the Lewis and Clark Expedition on this new world has been somewhat difficult. But as they had Sacagawea to teach and guide them, so I now have Gary- a.k.a. Sacagaweachuck. All the best guys.

    SOTD: Gary and other wine nerds, I’m really excited and had to share. I had my first Albarino today and it rocked my world. The Abacela 2008 Albarino. Great nose on that thing, made me want to smell it all afternoon. And I spent like five minutes doing just that before I took my first sip. The taste is really crisp with pleasing acidity. Highly recommended!

    Gary, I’ve watched your show for about a year now. I have seen most of the episodes in the archives, too. I study wine extensively and really enjoy finding incredible deals on thunder brands. The most incredible deal lately was finding 36 bottles of 04 Branson Coach House Shiraz at 35 bones apiece. That wine blows me away and I have you to thank for it.     P.S. thank you for the inky tasting note. It is one that I just realized I have missed noting, but instantly recognize in retrospect of several wines. It perfectly articulates a huge sensation of quite of a few wines that I’ve had.

    Great show gary. Living in the midwest i love to see review of some wines i can get locally even though i usually try the internet play. BTW Just tried the Thunder Cuvee and loved it!

    QOTD: I like the flip cam shows. Try to do an impromptu show at a random run of the mill wine store totally unannounced when your out and about promoting your newest mega deal. All the best!

    SOTD: I’ve got two suggestions…No. One – I know that you have touched on all aspects of the wine industry going so far as to make your own wine out of San Fransico. I’d like to see you go one step further and talk about growing your own grapes. Bring on someone who can talk about setting up your own vineyard. Now I’m not talking about buying a few acres locally and spending all of your childrens college fund to do it but allocating some parcel out in the backyard and taking it from there. Make it a ‘on site’ episode ala the wine cellar episode (one of my favorites). You could have fun and I think it would be well received.

    No. Two – I know how things can quickly overwhelm you when a new child comes into your life and you start asking how can I fit everything in 24 hrs and still enjoy life. Well, allow us to help. I’d love for you to start outsourcing to us for local videos allowing us to report on the wines/wineries in our local area. Have a correspondent for Oklahoma, Idaho, Virgina, Arizona, Georgia, etc (the other 46)… and have them work the streets to find the best local wineries and see what they are producing all on video for Wine Library TV. Think of a format that would like to see and challenege us. I think that you’ll find many of us share your passion and would love to show our pride in our local wines.

    Loved the episode, Gary. How many times can you switch your scores on one wine?? :)

    SOTD: Switch up your fashion a little bit. I’m all for the button up, and I want to give it all the love it needs, but as you said, we need to color outside the lines a little bit. Throw on a tie, or a hat, or even a scarf like that German Riesling dude a while back. Do an episode in a tuxedo. Who cares. (Actually, that’s not a bad idea for ep 700) But just show some variety. Big props to you for making those button ups your own, let’s see what else you can pull off.

    Interesting breakdown of a seemingly popular “brand” of wine.

    SOTD – I’m sure I’m not the only one with an unanswered email, and I’m so happy I’ve gone unanswered – it means you’re paying attention to Misha. Do me a favor and make sure that never ends. I only recently have started understanding how hard it must have been for my parents, because I was never without them. If I was home, so was at least one of them. I can’t thank them enough.

    That being said, I still want to know:
    “Gary,
    You mention constantly how scores don’t matter, and that you should trust your palate. Granted. You also, thankfully, acknowledge that people often buy wine by score, and that as much as that’s unfortunate – it’s your job as a critic to provide said score. The same goes for media, of course – video games, for example. No two people are going to like the same kinds of games. So, when Grand Theft Auto IV gets a rave review from 1UP, what does that really mean with respect to the game itself?
    Enter Metacritic. Metacritic is a review aggregator that includes a wide variety of journalists’ opinions, as well as their score from 1-100. Now, it’s not one man’s score, it’s several dozen, all averaged into a “Metascore”. This has been great for consumers on the Steam platform particularly, because the Metascore is listed along with the product and price in their store.
    I’m intrigued by the idea of a Metacritic / Metascore equivalent for wine. Include a range of wine critic’s opinions and scores, and compile them into a Wine Metascore, by which the consumer can better judge the overall quality of the wine. I’m curious what your thoughts would be toward something like that – do you think it’d be a good idea? Would it work?”

    Better show today!

    I like that you tried six wines that people can get from Costco(even if I don’t shop there). It was a little strange to see that you went back and regarded wines due to the Cameron Hughes Stag’s Cabernet Sauvignon. But then again you have to stay true too your self.

    Awesome episode as always. Odd request/question. How do you tell if a wine is vegetarian? There are a few sites out there that try to list a handful of wines, but nothing that seems complete…It can be hard/frustrating for us folks who don’t do gelatin.

    Thanks for all the great episodes. This one shows how a winemakers products can vary soo greatly, No one can get away by name alone.

    Comment of the day—– Gary you constantly say you love Root Beer. I love Root Beer and also some great licorice (such as RJ’s from new zealand). Have the root beer episode— pair it with other foods like licorice. Compare it to some wines, they aren’t the same, but buth have their own profiles. JUST DO IT. Maybe you can give us a soft drink to drink on hot summer days when wine isn’t appropriate. Thanks
