QOTD – I had water and a snow cone with my kids.

I like nerdy shows – thanks

QOTD – shared a bottle of Vineland Estates Niagra (Canadian) Cabernet Franc.
It was amazing to watch it evolve from a fruity zippy simple wine into a complex but vegetable juice blend over about an hour. Very well balanced. Not everyone’s cup of tea. Went well with a whole host of foods though.

Enjoyed the show..as always. Good insight on the region. Francois is not pronounced Franko, but Fran-so-a.

Gary, really enjoyed the show today. You uncorked the “Vintage” Gary again and passed it around. Nice.

On a different note– have you ever considered just taking a few lessons on pronunciation of French? It is so much a part of your job, and it’s not necessary to mispronounce as you do. You don’t have to take a course on French to be able to read French wine labels aloud, just get someone to meet you in your house and do 3 1-hour sessions. You’d be good to go. French is spelled weirdly, but it’s actually more consistent in spelling and pronunciation than English. Just a thought.

QOTD: Los Cardos Malbec which I brought out to counteract the Undone Pinot Noir which someone else had brought. Undone was too light for me and Los Cardos was jammy juicy and delicious.

Gary- You are the ultimate NERD and i mean that with all the sincerity I can muster. I have been watching since episode 425 or so. You have inspired me to even give the whites some attention after years of neglect. Have you ever considered a show exclusively on the offerings at Trader Joe’s. To say that their pricing and selections are a bit mystifying is the understatement of the century. If you have already done one…”MOTT!!!! Link it up.”

…and Gayy, Sasha at least once a week. I love watching him steal the show from you

QOTD: I cooked an Italian pasta dish for my mom and had a 2006 Columbia Crest Two Vines Vineyard 10 White Wine. Wasn’t too impressed with the wine, but the pasta was spectacular!

I also had the Organic Nigori Junmai Ginjo last night and it was pretty good. Fruity and full of sediment/lees. Shake well is says on the label. Not bad for an Oregon play. Had to have Sushi with it though. Pretty tipsy after 375 ml bottle.
Then tried the Berkeley Gingo in the cute little blueish bottle. Smelled like bad honey dew mellon and tasted very bad at room temp. Just tried it again for breakfast, cold this time and it’s not too bad.

Great show Gary, I like the information. Nerds rock.

QOTD: Deschutes Brewery Obsidian Stout… delicious

Hey Gary, I’ve been watching, but have been very remiss in leaving comments as of late–my bad–anyway, I do enjoy these formats very much, so keep the Nerdy formats as often as possible!

QOTD–this past weekend was all about beer!

Cooper-Garood Vineyards Cab Franc, Santa Cruz Mountains. It was very good!!!

What did I drink last week? Chocolate milk. (I’ll pause here a moment while you laugh). If you ever decided to review wines with chocolate flavors, or wines that go well with chocolate, I’d definitely watch. My apologies if you’ve already done a show like this.

QOTD: Sangria which I made from scratch. Turned out to be a really good batch, using some inexpensive Cali merlot as the base and Kirsch instead of regular brandy.

Yes, nerd it up! This was starting to turn into the Gary V Variety Show, and it’s awesome that you’re going to bring it back to its roots again. The nerdy, gritty secrets about the wine world are why I fell in love with this show in the beginning, and why I’ve continued to watch it all these years.

    Great show as always……

Nice show. I had to “google maps” Santanay. Never had any wines from there.

    QOTD:
    1. I had a 2006 1000 foot Pinot, that was alright, a little one note, and for Cali Pinot for <$20… ok
    2. 2004 Cakebread Merlot, I liked it, my wife loved it. very oaky but nice focused fruit, very floral, nice finish
    3. Some Trader Joes Toscana, $3.99 or something. It was absolutely terrible, totally disjointed and off balance. Really acidic, but not in a good way.

GV, we had dry French rose’ which was perfect in the super hot conditions of the Florida Keys. Keep up the good work, looking forward to your book.

Gary. Great show. Keep nerding it up. Though I may not seek out these wines this week, it gives perspective and a sense of geography to the wines I might drink. Thx. QOTD: Cotes Du Rhone cuvee speciale Rouge 2006 Les Vins De Vienne by Cuilleron, Villard, Gaillard and Villa. Branded by a Tokyo import store called Kinokuniya. Quite good for the equivalent of US$20.

  20. June 30, 2009

    Phredd

To @wendywhy: If there’s one thing GV is teaching here, it is that wine is fun, not intimidating! Get in there and take a swing (or swig)! It’s your palate. Use it!

    brorjace

A bunch of samples. Los Cardos Malbec, Terra Rouge Enigma, Bliss Chardonnay, Trentadue Old Patch Red, Rocking Horse 2000 Zin (Really Good!). Pretty tough weekend for me as you can see ;)

Also, I always dig the wine nerd shows, and I have had some Santenay, so it’s nice to see that as well.

    italianwinelover

Wow so close to 700!! Glad you are sticking around.Love the nerdism! Thanks for letting us in on all your knowledge!!! Would really enjoy a “Grilling with Gary” series!

QOTD:Sat – Champagne: Veuve Cliquot Brut, Mumm Napa Brut Prestige and ended with a Cava! Sun – all day I drank water :) !

  23. June 30, 2009

    Robert-Jon

WHAT!! A week at the grill would be awe-some!
I couldn’t follow some of the nerdiness but that’s ok, I bet many people were educated.

QOTD: Hertog Jan beer, which is, if I’m right, from southern Holland. Could be Belgium. It’s a regular pilsener but kinda leans toward the dark special beers.

  24. June 30, 2009

    Jamie Barger

Excellent episode, loved the nerd factor/wine talk/edumucation.

QOTD: It was a hot and humid weekend, needed to cool off with a “bourbon slush”; the new twist I discovered was to muddle it with fresh basil. I’ve decided that for cocktails, basil is the new mint.

    Hi Gary,
Thanks for another informative episode. This weekend I had a Pimm’s cup and an ‘05 La Butte from Ch. La Gatte.
    Cheers to you.
