QOTD: Went to a wedding in MI and snagged a bottle of Magnificent Wine Co 2006 House Wine from the bar for my table. Enjoyed it with some good friends from high school. Good times, great memories.

Time to seek out some Santenay. Just want to see if anyone in Dayton carries it.

    Thanks Gary

I watched this today Tuesday the 30th.. And I just got pack from a Martini Tasting. It featured two Vodkas make by the same company. Opulent and Prairie. The Prairie is “Organic” and both are gluten free. They really dinn’t make Matrinis per say. a Tonic Martini , a Cosmo and a Lemondrop Martini. The Voday was Smoothe. I believe The Opulent was filtered five times? Anyhow nice to mix it up. I am a wine guy always, but it was a good time. I will probably open up some 06′ Domaine Bernard Moreau Bourgogne in the next couple of days. Some White Burgundy is always nice and I like this particular producer and vintage.

P.S. that 25 bone pinot is the first wine I’ve bought from you, we’ll see how it works out (love the chinon)

Very good subject matter. Value burgundy is one I have requested in the past and you came through in spades.

QOTD: We were all over the board this weekend. A rose from Long Is (Shinn), a pinot from the Niagara Escarpment (Mtn Road), Chat Musar from
Lebannon and a South African meritage (Rustenberg’s JX Merriman)

Gary, can you talk about food pairings more when you review the wines?

In the eight years I’ve been pursueing wine knowledge, this is the first tasting I remmeber seeing or reading of Santenay. Thanks for expanding my wisdom, now to try it for myself.

QOTD: No alcohol this weekend, babysitting my 9 year old niece, Diet Dr Pepper and Luzianne Decaf Iced Tea.

I had a Bordeaux, Chateau Labadie 2005 from Cote de Bourg. Very good but heavy on the alcohol.

Qotd: Well, I had a lot to drink this weekend, lol. The one that I put the most thought into though was a Jack Daniels old fashioned, without the fruit because I’m a poor college student and don’t eat fruit enough to make it worthwhile. Other than that I had the usual, shinerbock last night, blue moon on saturday. had some wines on Friday at a wedding reception. Only good one wes La terre pinot grigio (forgive me on the spelling).

Had a beautiful Santenay last year, Les Chantalbins 1999, a gift from a colleague in France, and it was delicious (89-90pts) with a strong liquorice nose.

QOTD – Had an OK St. Emilion Grand Cru. at my parents, but forgot to note down the name. Opened up a Turkish 2005 Bo?azkere (Red) from Doluca on Sunday evening, light but enjoyably fruity.

I’ll leave a comment for the nerdiness. Love the esoteric episodes. Keep them coming! QOTD: I picked up a bottle of the Heidi Schrock Vogelsang at Wl this weekend and LOVED IT! It is a fix of Pinot Blanc, Furmint, and 2 other even lesser known varietals. I actually bought 3 more bottles and I NEVER buy more than 2 bottles of anything. You should give it a try on the show

Thanks again for a new challenge of finding Santenay at the local SAQ. Veronique, from the Jura, hooked me up with a Savagnin 2005. Even with the appropriate pairing of Comte cheese I found it odd. What can I expect from the 1999 Vin Jaune waiting to thrill the palate made from the same grape?

Good show. I like it when you taste different wines from the same grape. It shows how important the winemakers passion is.

    Qotd: We had two wines.
    1. Penfolds “Bin 2″ from 2005
    2. Zar Simeon “Bin 40″ Cab from Nova Zagora Bulgaria

Love nerding it up – always happy when I need to take out my wine atlas. Wish I could watch Sir Gary, he’s been gone for a LONG time…

QOTD – Had a glass or two of the Chateau Greysac 2003 from the Medoc. Have probably had 4-5 bottle of this wine and think it is certainly a good wine for $14 bucks. Great balance, nice fruit, but also plenty of earth and veggies.

QOTD: My wine from this weekend was a 2003 Douro blend from Portugal. 2003 seems like a very good vintage here.

CRAP! I forgot the QOTD…. again… I drank a K Vintners 2006 Phil Lane Syrah… IN credible… After watching the episode with Charles Smith and subsequently tasting his wines, He has become one of my Wine World Heros (WWH?)… After GV of course…

How long had these wines been open? I’ve found that super pooper pinots will often develop fruit notes after decanting for an hour or so. I’ve come to realize that I’m a nerd to the core when it comes to vino, and I love the super-geek shows. I’ve been working at an upscale restaurant in downtown Seattle for about a year now, which is also about how long I’ve been watching your show. At 23 I have completely surpassed everyone I work with in terms of textbook knowledge of wine (career service industry folk who love their drink), thanks in large part to your show. While I have only a fraction of the first hand drinking experience of those 10-20 years older than me, I find that I have to hold myself back when talking to my co-workers about wine these days in order to avoid clowning on my superiors… thank you good sir…
