Gary — nice fumble!!! Just like Tiki Barber before they corrected his grip on the ball. Ahman Green, NOTORIOUS for fumbling. Remember when Kurt Warner played for the Giants? Fumble City, USA.

    Hey Gary.

Great show. I like the focus on lesser known areas and regions.

    QOTD: This past weekend…

Not a fumble… I would invoke the tuck rule.

Best saying of the episode… “Very thin… like Lindsay Lohan up in here” She probably will decline your invitation to be a guest on a future show but then again, that wouldn’t keep with the nerd theme.

QOTD: Sangria (Lots of fresh fruit, some Triple Sec, and a Willamette Valley Rose)
    New Belgium Skinny Dip Ale
    Widmer Broken Halo IPA

P.S. Get Mott some camera time… have him guest host a show!

Nice episode. I love the geeky ones. I’m just a hair disappointed that the Santenay’s didn’t come out a little better. I’ve been trying to grab a few Old World Burgundies lately, and I’ve definitely never had a Santenay before. I was hoping there was value to be had. The Saint Francois didn’t seem like my kind of play, though, so at the moment I think Santenay will stay in my “never tried” list.

QOTD: I had Torre 2005 Sangiovese Di Romagna Riserva. At 18 bones, it wasn’t bad. Good round wine with a solid finish. Some vanilla, some good strawberry notes, and little bit of earthiness in there. Didn’t blow me away, but held it’s own. Also had some Sebastiani Chardonnay as a easy-drinking white with dinner Saturday night. Don’t know the vintage, but it doesn’t really matter.

Gary – good episode, appreciated learning about Santenay, which I knew nothing about. Was a little surprised you scored the last wine 86 points, it seemed like you were going to go lower. Must have been that pomegranate on the back-end!

QOTD: I have been enjoying white wines quite a bit recently, probably because of the weather, and they’re DELICIOUS. Anyways, weekend recap:
Friday–> Coffee in AM; Stone Cellars Riesling & Miller Lite @ Comedy Show
Saturday–> Coffee in AM; Pink Lemonade Lunch; Viognier, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and Chambourcin @ Notaviva music/wine pairing event
Sunday–> Coffee in AM; Diet Coke and Red Machine Naked Juice

Nice ‘n nerdy! But keep mixing it up – it’s more fun that way!

QOTD: Duplin Carolina Hatteras Red, a non-vintage ’sweet muscadine wine’ a client gave to my husband (they spend part of the year down there). Very light, but a pleasant, easy drinker.
Reminded me of a Lambrusco, but without the bubbles.
Also we had some Otter Creek Copper Ale- likewise a pleasant, easy drinker.

    Hi Gary V,
I really like you going towards more info about the wine, i feel like i would love to know what month it was harvested or the amount of brix in the wine at harvest.
Answer of the day: I had this chardonnay from a winery called “thousand island winery” it was their 2007. The tasting notes were all OAK MONSTER, but it tasted like fresh white wood with some saw dust on top followed with honeydew. They as well have the wine called “Frontenac” which is a red sweet wine 5%RS and had some very nice plum action as Mr. V. would say.
Maybe you will do a show with these wines i would love to see what you think of them and to see to make the oak monster face.
    Thanks,
    Mickey

great show, even I’m not the biggest french-wine fan, shame on me :-)

    we had the last weekend
Ravenswood – Vintners Blend Zinfandel 2003
Schiava Grigia – Grauvernatsch Kalterersee North Italy 2007

two completely different wines – Gary what do you think of wines from Kalterersee, South Tyrol, Italy?

I think I’ll have to get a couple bottles of that 06 St Francois because I’ve got to use my free june shipping code, well like today!

QOTD: Had a couple gatherings with a bunch of folks in the last few days, this weekend, we had some 227 Cab (kinda candyesque for me, but drinkable) Terrazas Malbec (always a tasty tannic quaffer) some Tularosa Vineyards 2007 Cabernet (good, balanced, easy drinking) someone brought over J. Lohr Cab (meh, tatses like cabernet) and Rosemont Shiraz (meh taste like Shiraz) The best I’ve had was middle of the week last week, my buddy Chris and I decided it was high time to open the 2004 San Roman Toro. Holy Crap, it was like the La Brea Tar pits, mixed with the Smoke monster from Lost, then throw in some blackberries but roasted over a forest fire. Damn good wine, but a little freaky.
I highly suggest you try it though.

Esporao form Portugal. Kind of old world but great with Tri-tip. Rafanelli Zin was good but not mind bending for 40 bones. A few Pilner Urquelsesess. Does anyone know of a Pilsner like PU from a Microbrewy or anywhere that can bring the thunder?
