It’s true, i’ve never had Santenay wines but have seen them in wine club catalogs, I just don’t belong to any.

QOTD: We had a bottle of “Marqués De Cáceres Rioja white 2003″ for dinner and it was very very good, we paired it with dates, apples, dark chocolate, mangoes with cinnamon and chicken salad; a very nice date night.

QOTD: Well, let’s see: what did I drink this weekend. Friends opened a 2005 Caymus Cab. (nice to have such friends!….) Also had a 2007 Piesporter (alas, I can’t recall the producer), the Ruston 2005 Cab and the 2006 Via Alta Garnacha. A good weekend.

Cali cab lover! I second the wtf is with the nebiolo.
How’s the Moshin pinot? I’ve got one I’m almost ready to pop.

Nice episode. Fact of the matter is I have been loving wine for near on a decade and French wine is still intimidating.

QOD- summer is Sav. Blanc time for me….did an in-house comparison of Kim Crawford ‘07 vs Nobilo Icon ‘07 and Spineyback ‘08….Spineyback with the big grapefruit was my winner

    Gary,

Enjoyed the show, love Burgundy, but it doesn’t sound like I need to rush out to find some Santenay.

You’re killing me with the Fran-kos. Seriously, that little thing hanging below the C, means call him Fran-swah, as in Francis and France. Sorry man, I can’t let that go.

QOTD: This weekend I nerded it up with some 2005 Mastroberardino – Lacryma Christi Del Vesuvio Bianco. Pretty delicious.

Also, congrats on your little girl. My wife and I are expecting our first in October. It’s a boy and we need name sugggestions! Sorry, “Gary” is already taken in the family.

    Yo Gary!
First time dropping by! I’m downunda in Malbra New Zealand – This weekend I had a Te Wharee Ra Dry Reisling and it was a very thunder worthy wine! Te Wharee Ra is one of the best wineries around here, look into’em if you haven’t had the oppurtunity yet! Keep it rolling baby! – 1F

    QOTD:
Friday: a lot: Moscato d’asti, some home made beer, a cheap Spanish Merlot, a much better Barbaresco, a number of other beers, stout mostly, homemade Schnaps (that is vodka added with different herbs and given some time in the bottle)
Saturday: only a glass or two of Domain la Soumade Rasteau Cuvée Prestige 2004. Sunday: Giano Prosecco from Vinsac, and some Val de Loire Chardonnay from Domain de Lorière. The Soumade was definitely the best of the bunch.

Good episode. Although, I didn’t really notice how most of the other episodes were any less nerdy. I suppose it may be just in terms of the relative obscurity of the wines.

    Anyhow,

    QOTD:

2007 Rosemount Shiraz – Australia (admittedly bought because the bottle had a square bottom)

2007 Jackson-Triggs Dry Riesling – Okanagan (as part of my independent study on Canadian Rieslings to see how well this north-climate varietal does up here)

    Hey Gary,

Question of the day: I drank a Joose (energy blend + 9.9 alcohol) and a Corona…

I really want to try that first white you had, Domaine Vincent Beaurepaire Santenay – so once I get that free $50 ;-)

Thanks for this episode, I’m learning tons. I’m actually gonna bbq some steaks today, so my question for you: What type of (red I assume) wine would go good with bbq steak?

That was hardly nerdy! You can go nerdier than that! Details, man, details!

QOTD 2008 Château Bélingard Bergerac Rosé
I gave it an 87; have you noticed 2008 French pinks are .5 or 1% higher in alcohol this year than usual?

Mott: That was a Brett Favre pass… oooh those were fightin’ words!!!

Gary, I’m a huge fan of grilling, the London Broil from Citarella is excellent, tender, perfect with a bottle of the 2006 Dusky Goose.

QOTD: I appreciate the nerd shows quite a lot. I drank 2006 Dusky Goose, damn good bottle of wine.

Love you Gary. and God bless little Misha. And my cat Jupiter meows in your general direction.

    QOTD: Moshin Pinot Noir

Love the show! I watch to learn and learn I do!
I have recently gotten into Italian, especially Nebbiolo. Even watching some of your past episodes. I am so glad you no longer have those obnoxious comment pop ups.
What about a show explaining the difference between a Nebbiolo, Barolo and Barberesco since they are all the Nebbiolo grape. I don’t get it.

Thanks for the time you spend doing this show. I appreciate Lizzy and Misha letting you keep this on your already full plate.

Zaca Mesa 2003 Syrah. Been sitting on 3 bottles for a while. Drank them on beach in Newport, California. Seriously delicious. Oh and Friday night was an Andrew Murray Esperance that was fantastic.

QOTD: honestly, I had a Stella Artois while watching some local jazz, but I’d like to mention one I had a while ago: Porta do Fontelo 2004, a portugese red wine that tasted fabulously silky.

LOVE the pickle juice/Chinon connection. I find dill pickle in allot of Chinon and a few domestic (Cab Franc) when they don’t add any other varietals to it.
QOTD: 07 Solar de Randez Rioja at a B-Day bbq for a friend.

    good show…nerd power!

QOTD: Though not exactly this weekend, I had two bottles from Domaine de Mas de Libian. One was the ‘08 Vin de Petanque, and the other was the ‘07 Bout d’Zan. Both were quite good, especially after some decanting.
