This ep brought me back to WLTV. However, the nerdy thing to do is mention when the Burgundy wines might be ready to drink. A 2005 or 2006? Not proper. Still, I loved the ep. Just to put the word, the AOC, into circulation is satisfaction enough.

QOTD: A ‘78 Pontet-Canet. Quite durable. Begs the question about the Burgundies.

Really appreciate the nerdy shows. I feel like I’m getting a decent grip on Cali, French Bordeaux & Rhone, but Burgandy continues to elude me. With your suggestions it really helps me expand my palate a bit(like the show at Cru too).

QOTD: Had an 06 Rudd Crossroads on my date night for my wife’s 30th birthday. It tasted way better at the winery a few months back than this Friday, I think it still needs time to come together. Probably got a lot more air-time at the winery…won’t touch another for at least 2 years.

QOTD: I drank a bottle of 2006 Trader Joe’s Reserve Petit Verdot from Paso Robles.
It wasn’t too great the first day, even after being opened several hours. However, I vacuum sealed it and drank the rest the next day and it had opened up very well. A very nice wine with good value at $9.99. TJ’s doesn’t offer Petit Verdot often and they sell out quickly. Would be curious to see what other Vayniacs think. Remember to decant for many hours, if not over night.
BTW, could you comment on aerators such as the Vinturi? Do you think they work? The rest of my family swears the Vinturi makes a huge difference but I can’t detect any change. I did a blind tasting and I was the only one who failed to see improvement.
Thanks for the show, it’s the highlight of my evenings. Great job.

Good Show GV, I have not had a Santenay yet, but it will be added to my list of wine i must try.

QOTD: This past weekend I enjoyed a Pinot Nior From British Columbia which screamed of pig, smelled and tasted like ham… not sure if i was really into it but it is all good, expanding my palate. Also had one of my favorite white blend from BC as well “Anastasia” from La Frenz, just a great fruit filled white wine, nice crisp and clean.

QOTD: I drank skyy vodka with a splash of grape cranberry juice. Very good, light and easy drinking. Your show today caused me to pause half way through an pour a glass of Shiraz. You made me thirsty for wine with the one’s that you reviewed. Job well done!

GV, great show, I am glad you go back to pure education baby, mixed with your humour and energy it’s the best cocktail.
While you are open to feedback: when will we have google earth type interactive maps popping up to show the regions you are talking about ? I could picture some “Map that up Mott” flowing pretty good there.

QOTD: Hennessy Private Reserve 1865, Hennessy X.O, Ardberg single malt (Islay) Ugedail. Smoke me up buttercup.

I am definitely a griller, especially now bbq season is upon us. With Burgundy such a minefield in terms of both price and quality, I’ve recently found Santenay to be a more reliable “value” from this region, and have yet to be a disappointed. Interesting to see such a mixed bag on the show.

Though I have loved some of the guests you’ve had on, I was a bit overwhelmed by the number of guests in past weeks/months, so I’m glad there’s been something of a return to the individual, more personal episodes, really getting into a few wines or exposing quirky or unheard-of wines to the masses.

QOTD: This weekend we had a 2004 Marques de Vargas Rioja Reserva – pretty good stuff, actually.

Great dirty nerdy show today. Keep ‘em coming! Also, you might want to venture into the nerdiness of wine and food pairing. You often say this would go great with mussels or clams but a show specific to a type of cuisine would be well, kinda nerdy and alot of fun. Red wines with fish, of course.

    QOTD
    1) ‘07 Simone SB (Chile)
    2) ‘07 Monmoussea Vouvray (FR)
    3) ‘06 Eilenz Ayler Kupp Kabinett Riesling (Germany)
    4) ‘08 Opaline Rose (Beaujolais)
    5) ‘07 Henry’s Drive Pillar Box Red

P.S. More like a Willie Joe kinda pass! ;)

    Cheers!

I’m finding that most of my 2005 Red Burgundies are locked down hard these days. I wonder if some of that was going on here… I won’t be opening them for quite some time until they reemerge from their slumber (2015?).

QOTD: Had some wine geeks come over on Friday and we had some decent stuff… 1990 Ponzi Vineyards Pinot Noir Anniversary Reserve, both 1988 and 1989 Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape and we closed it out with a 2000 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese. Yummy.

    Hey Gary

Love the ‘wine nerd’ shows, great style.

QOTD: Zema Estate Coonawarra Cabernet 2004, some average rose by the glass at a restaurant, Kiran beer and Sunday I went to a brunch buffet so several glasses of poor quaility, too sweet sparkling wine from California.

    Cheers

    Louis Jadot 2006 Beaujolais
    Arbor Mist Blackberry Merlot

    QOTD:
Friday was beer night with a couple of old speckled hens!

    Saturday:
Coffee, water then off to attend a Brunello tasting with 9 Brunellos and a Rosso thrown in to set up your palate after which I had…. you guessed it… another Brunello with dinner:
2000 Castelgiocondo (Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi) Brunello di Montalcino which was very tasty indeed. Aging nicely and drinking well now :-)

Sunday: Coffee, water, and later in the day (honest) Guinness 250 year anniversary stout

First off, thank you for reading my comment on the show today! Secondly, I laughed my @$$ off when you “fumbled” the comments paper and bounced it off your head. That was priceless! Were you tasting (a lot) before the show? :) Good work!

GV Recommendation: How about you invite Bobby Flay on the show as a guest and do some tasting and pairing of wines that go well with grilled foods. Maybe you could do an outside show where you guys grill and taste. As I’m sure you know, Bobby is a native New Yorker and I believe he has a restaurant in New Jersey. I think it would make for an AWESOME show and the dynamic of you two together could be epic. Just a thought since you mentioned grilling.

QOTD: I opened this RADICAL bottle from Trefethen that they call “OKD” presumably because they are in the Oak Knoll District. It rocked my socks off. (Malbec, Petit Verdot, Cab Sauv)

    Best,

I was wondering if you should not standardize to a single glass type. After your comment during the Sake episode that you did notice glass shape/size can make a different, should you not standardize?

QOD – PBR, Shelburne Vinyard (VT) 08 Cote de Champlain (Cayuga, reisling, Chard), Sam Adams Light (sorry can’t remember the Shiraz I am a drinker not a thinker)

I think all I’ve drunk this weekend was Full Sail LTD lager 03. Pretty good for a lager.
