great episode Gary, but I’m unclear on 1 thing. I dont like a lot of oak on my wines, and did you detect any on the 94 napa harrison cabernet at all?

qotd: ummmm wow i don’t remember the number at all or the wrestlers involved, but it was the one where you moved the spit bucket and the bodyslam reversed into a pin and you were on it tapping him out…. I mean I had to pick a non wine moment cuz there have been sooooo many great ones.

    G,
    Thanks for the shout out!
Been busy with our new baby girl and I am still catching up.
    My favorite episode so far?
I would have to go with the outdoor tasting in the dead of winter.
    Good stuff.
    Hope things are well.
    Take care.

Hey GV – Congrats on 700 shows! The show was not disappointing, I have several vintages of the Lambourghini in my cellar. It is a GREAT wine and I am glad to see that you are keeping some around as well.

QOTD – Believe it or not, the College Humor episode popped into my head as well as the recent Sake episode. The New Zealand wine maker was really cool as well.

QoftheDay? 5 months ago i bought some land in Joshua tree ca. On my way out i stopped in temecula ca. As the day went on it got colder and colder. By 7pm it was 20 degrees with 50mph winds. So i retreated to the only thing left on 10 acreas by the former owner, A old Vw van. The only thing i had to entertain me was a case of random wine i picked up and my laptop without internet. Some how or another There Gary was, 10 episodes. I was shocked i had no clue how they got their. I must have drank 1/2 that wine that night and watched all 10 ep. Ever since that night i have changed the way i smell drink and enjoy wine. U changed my view on what can be said about wine.
    Thanks Gary
    From Pete t.

Finally got around to watching this one. The ending wasn’t disappointing… as someone who doesn’t get to drink a lot of older wine (yet), seeing how a wine can transform into something disappointing was interesting and educational. Don’t under-estimate the value of being able to learn from a disappointment… I enjoyed it. Thanks for all the shows! 700 is a lot of time invested and your continued enthusiasm is contagious.

    QOTD:
#645 Kevin Rose episode. I’ve involved in the geek world. Was blown away by this episode – hadn’t seen anything like it (with respect to wine). Rose brought me in, but GV kept me here to stay.

dude, you are funny! Please don’t let the Oak Monster host your show anymore, I don.t like him. This will be one of my most memorable episodes! :-)

the best ? How to get your wine palate trained. I love the bit where you do all the fruits and act like its gonna be over and surprise, switch frames, its time for the vegetables and the dirt.

An excellent way to hit the 700 mark (I thoroughly enjoyed the ripping of the oak Monster). I can’t wait to see you hit the 1000 mark (in one form or other)!!!

QOTD: This is tough. There have been many classics that I’ve loved, but the numbers all slip me… but for some reason the Jeffrey Davies show will probably always be the one I remember most, likely b/c it’s the first that made me believe that Bordeaux wines were worth a shot. Now, I’m sold….

QOTD – the last episode with your Dad. Loved it.

    Congratulations Gary;

These episodes have without a doubt been the most valuable learning and enjoyment tools for my (and my wife’s) wine experience, and has helped immensely in my buying decisions.

I have wines still in my house that make me shake my head at the great video or special e-mail that prompted the purchase. Sure my priorities are all screwed up, but who do you think my friends come to when they have a wine question? That’s right, ‘ole Jimmy “The Dish”.

    Bravo!!!

Congrats on 700 Gary! Thank you for all your time and dedication to sharing your knowledge with us.

Off the top of my head, my two favorite episodes are:

-Jim Cramer show – Can you say overflowing passion bucket!?!
-The early decanting show – the first show that I watched. Got me hooked!

Wow, 700 episodes! Thank you, Gary!

QOTD: You have pumped out so many great episodes, it is impossible to say which I liked best. I do remember #364 very well because I fell in love with the first wine cellar and am pretty jealous. And episode #182 was just awesome.

Congrats on 700 Gary, solid episode, love that the Super-Umbrian made an appearance.
QOTD: The college wine blind tasting when you claimed the worst wine ever on WLTV, I believe it was Michigan State.

  22. July 12, 2009

    Jim in Atlanta

Big congrats on number 700. I hope you will have at least 700 more. QOTD – There have been so many memorable shows, but I enjoyed when Jancis Robinson was on. It showed that you can approach wine in more than one way and be successful.

qotd: When you had the German MW guy on the show, that was pretty cool. Heck when you were on Conan that was funny as hell. Generally they are all good, some I didn’t like so much certain guest, didn’t really like the guest of the sake show but the show was good
