but falanghina, thanks Gary, looking forward to checking them out.
dont get me wrong, its nice to see you’re shows on napa cabs and things like that. but i really love when you do shows on more obscure things. its great to be turned on to wines or wine areas i wasnt very familiar with before. definitely my fav shows of yours.
speaking of which, I’d love to see you do a charbono tasting.

Gary – Thanks so much for introducing me to this grape. Found a bottle of Terradora di Paolo 2007 Falanghina at my local wine store and, I’ll be damned… Banana! Just a great, unique white. Like nothing I’ve ever had before.

GV – I like these shows when we are introduced to new wines. I have had several Italian whites like Greco due to your shows and I really liked them.

QOTD1 – chicken – my wife’s chicken soup

Recently drank a 2006(?) Sorrentino Falanghina Pompeiano, had a similar taste experience; a truly unique play of tropical fruit (banana/guava), floral, and minerality…would love to try a fresh ‘08 Falanghina (preferably watching the sun set in Capri).

as far as the episode, i have to say I am SO GLAD you picked Falanghina to focus on. The first time I had it was in 2006 while I was studying abroad in Umbria, and we took a group trip down to la costa amalfitana. I had my first glass of Falanghina on Capri…and to this day it is one of my VERY FAVORITE white wines of all time, and definitely one of the tope italian whites I’ve yet had. Now when are you going to do an episode on Roero Arneia and Soave. Oh and probably my favorite white wine of all time was a Malvasia that I had in Ljubljana, that was indeed from Slovevia…honestly mind-blowing!!!

Anyone who has watched the show on a regular basis will see that Gary’s enthusiasm is genuine and unaffected. It’s why we watch.

I’m always a few days behind since I can’t watch these episodes daily, but they collect on my iPod and in my e-mail and I know I can view them whenever I get the chance. I just wanted to say that I, too, best like your traditional episodes – just you and three bottles of wine and all your great and amusing insight. I do enjoy the occasional guest, but like this format as the mainstay.
