Once again Gary, another little area I wasn’t too familiar with. Love those episodes. Speaking of which, a charbono tasting would be really neat to see. Would also turn people onto some stuff they maybe weren’t too familiar with, I’d think.
Great show can’t wait to try out some Pic St. Loup’s.

    Dear Gary,

You won’t believe this ! I am a Vaniac, lucky enough to go to France on holiday. As I went to the Pic St. Loup you tape this show about the region. Scary ! By the way I agree l’Hortus (pron.: lor tuus) is great !

Just got my 4 bottles in the mail. Gonna open the first one for my 17th Anniversary tomorrow night. Surprising the wife with tickets to a concert in Chicago to see one of her favorite singers (shhh, don’t tell). Thanks again. Keep up the good work! Hope to see you again at SXSW.

Thanks for your review of the 2005 Domain de L’Hortus Grande Cuvee. I purchased 4 bottles and am enjoying it as I write. I replayed the epi to see if I agree with your tasting. This was actually the first epi of your show that I saw. You turned me back on to wine. I love it but I just couldn’t justify spending money on wine when my family doesn’t really drink. I have friends that do but we don’t share the same tastes. One friend is way too serious while my other friends have palates that aren’t, in my opinion, that sophisticated.

This wine is really elegant. I agree it’s great. Your description of the black tea flavor is dead on. It tastes really great with food. I had a wonderful steak with it. I also joined your wine club because it appears we have similar tastes.

Anyway, I’d like to make a request. Could you help me with the whites though. I live in Northern CA and the CA “oak monster” destroyed any desire I had to drink white wine. The word chardonnay makes my stomach roil. Really, I get ill from white wine.

Languedoc is fun to explore…there is a HUGE amount of grapes grown there, much of which ends up in non denomination blends from elsewhere in France.

QOTD: No TV, listening to Brazilian Salsa singer Marissa Monte, liking the older classic movies from Netflix…too much of the new movies are a load of crap, and all of the remakes? Please no more!

GV – I am glad that at the end you told me where you were. I was looking at your unshaven face, the paint peeling behind you , and the scratch marks on the wall. I was thinking that maybe you were a crack addict. However, I know that is not the case.
Have not had a Pic St Loup, but the varietals are right in my wheel house, I am sure that I would enjoy.

QOTD – I am not much a TV watcher (other than Seinfeld), however my kids got me into House and The Office. For music – I really like Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse for newer artists.

I really think Dexter is the best show on TV right now. My wife Keri and I just recently discovered it and watched all 3 seasons in about 4 weeks. Totally hooked. Loving the new Dave Matthews Band album. Brilliant music. Also, Butch Walker is clever and amazing. And there’s a great new band out of Portland, Oregon that you’ll be hearing a lot about called Hockey. Check em out.

Hey Gary, I was happy to see that I could select you on my Tivo. The one thing that drives me crazy about your show is that YOU NEED TO HAVE A LAVALIER MIC ON YOUR SHIRT! At the least get a better shotgun mic on the camera. Geeze it’s horrible and drive me nuts!!!You are fun to watch I like the wines you review and agree with what you come to conclude. But please Chris Mott go to Radio and Buy the chepo crappy Lav mic that they sell. I have heard cheesy 70’s porn movies mic’ed better that this show. I’m on my knees please please please buy a lav mic please…please I employer you.

wow… I was really expecting a good rate at the La Roque, but as I watch the show I think it’s better than I imaginated… good show!

I’m not a fan of movies at all, but I watch sports. Cannot wait for the NFL season to start! Talking about music, I listen to so many things that it would be impossible to describe… As of now, I’ve been listening a lot to John Mayer and House Music, since I’m an amateur DJ =]

    Cheers from BRA!!

    Gary,

heard of you for the first time today – love you!

Quick comment – whenever I hear you refer to your camera guy, I always think you call him “Ma”. Wouldn’t it be sweet if it was your mother who was your camera person? I mean you do talk about your family a lot, so it would only make sense. Put her on!
