line of the day – ‘I got zero, and I have a giant nose’

At last the sound has been sorted out…but still not a great format (for my palate)

QOTD: probably going to be either jasmine or honeysuckle. We had both around my house growing up, and the fragrance of the night-blooming jasmine wafting into the house on a hot summer night was amazing to me.

Glad the sound issue got somewhat resolved. I still think with a single guest, or taping on location, you need to individually mike people, but that’s just my feeling.

Much better job with the sound on this one. You’re dialing it in. Your audience was a little more timid this time around, and the wines sure didn’t bring the thunder, but sometimes that just happens. I like this series.

QOTD: Forget-me-nots (Alaska’s state flower) are my favorite. Tiny, but so beautiful. I dislike roses, but that’s because the rosebushes next to my house had huge thorns and when we’d play hoops on the driveway they used to pop my basketballs. You know, like Charlie Brown and the kite-eating tree, but with bushes and large orange balls. I’ve never forgiven those stupid flowers!

  • Just done a massive catch up on WLTV, great that you are out meeting the peeps. If I was anywhere near the USA, I’d have been there! QOTD – Favourite flower is the Dandelion. You can eat it, it brightens up hedgerows with it’s yellow flower and it is cool that it turns furry when it goes to seed!

    Another Solid Show Gary,

Interesting wines reviewed today – I liked the comments on the nuances on the Beaujolais, these nuances are caused by the fermentation technique used on the grapes. The grapes are fermented ‘whole bunch’ and not crushed. This whole bunch fermentation causes each grape to ferment on its own creating a beautiful floral, red-fruity, bubble-gum characters.

qotd….Red Rose – because I like to give them to my girlfriend!!!

QOTD: Oh thats an easy one. Lily’s if you buy the whole branch at the flower shop before all the individual flowers open, your house smells great and they will each open over the course of a week or two. Fantastic flower, and often cheaper, and way better then buying a bouquet. On top of the great smell they look great!

good show gary! the conversing went smoothly and the feedback was good and interesting. they’re getting better as you work out the kinks.

QOTD: that’s a tough question. from the very few flowers that i know, sadly, i might say some sort of geranium. like a stork’s bill. you got me thinking though, and now i want to go out and smell and look at flowers to see which one i like best. thanks gary!

  • Gary,

I subscribe to your pod cast so I don’t comment very often. I just thought I’d drop in and say “hi.” Heard you were coming to the SF Bay Area in October and I’d like to promote your appearance with an article and video on “Adventures in Wine Tasting” (http://erikwait.blogspot.com/).

If you can send me some more info I’ll spread the word.

    Cheers!

  • These shows have been interesting to see the multiple reactions and disparate palates, but I would not necessarily advocate doing this on a regular basis…it makes for kind of a disjointed presentation. Nice novelty though, and a fun format to do with friends. We just had an end-of-summer rosΓ© party on the river bank Friday night…almost 30 different wines (Old world, New world, and local Vermont & Quebec). Great to see who liked what best and why, there were no reject wines, and not a drop was left.

“Michele”, take your pretentious crap troll attitude and get your own blog. The whole point of this show is tasting for regular people, no extensive wine education is required. It does not matter what is “right”, only that we try. GV, don’t waste any of your precious time trying to get that one back, leave the space for someone is open to the opinions of others, and willing to learn from them, even if they do not agree.

QOTD: Seeing the color of the Forsythia first thing in the spring, lifts my spirits and gives me feelings of great hope, but the intoxicating aroma of Jasmine may win overall.

QOTD- My favorite flower? Gotta be the Grape Hyacinth. They hang like grape clusters. Common here in good ol southern New Jersey.

French episode…. kinda disappointing. Beaujolais is definitely an under appreciated, under estimated, and all around just looked down upon region. You get into the cru’s and you can get some serious stuff that surprisingly ages nicely.
    Thanks Gary

First comment, officially no longer a lurker… QOTD: I’ve always liked the adjective ‘orchidaceous’ to describe something intricate or fascinating. I’m going to have to go with: Orchid.
