Great guest again. Growing up in Minnesota you learn at a young age how to find gooseberries when you are hiking. It’s a flavor we know here – at least those who camp and hike.

Great show Gary! Terrific great, I can’t wait for part 2!!

Talking again about sports, as you might know, Football (known in America as soccer) down here is the national sport and our team just defeated the longtime rival Argentina on their home grounds 3 x 1. With this result we qualified earlier for World Cup South Africa 2010! Last night was the time for Chile to me demolished: 4 x 2. Awesome game, without 4 key stars and the second half with one player less. Is this a 6 title prelude?!

Question about the bubbly: As I am going to get married, what do you suggest for the toast, vintage or non-vintage Champagne: Moet / Dom P / Veuve Rosé / Perrier-Jouet Belle Époque are all available down here?

    Thanks a lot,
    Best wishes,

    Mauricio Fernandes.

Great ep, Nick! I liked your point about the salivating/quandry of making one both immediately thirsty for another sip, and hungry to taste food simultaneously. And now I am.

G, I totally agree with you that they can lose control of themselves, and end up with runaway fruit which unbalances such beautiful wine, but their error tends to appeal to the sweettoothy palates, and its always at that lower price tier, where the largest numbers in volume, and movement are. I think the high teens to low twenties give more reserved and controlled fruit, a la Kim Crawford, Siefert, and others.

    Great conversation.

While I think you were a little disappointed with the Sauv. Blac,I did respect his explanation re the room temperature/chilled preference.

    Looking forward to session 2.

My parents are from England – now living in Detroit. They grow gooseberries in their backyard. Missed them too much from the old country.

So – I’ve had lots of gooseberries in my life, but no purple nerds.

Awesome guest! He’s a guy that if I knew who he was and what he did I still wouldn’t be shy to say hey lets go grab a beer somewhere. Again love the shows. It’s because of these shows I have such an appreciation, passion, and enthusiasm for wine.

    Thanks Gary,
    Ryan
