fantastic show I’m really getting in to Italian wines at the moment so i totally agree with you on how underrated they are which is a good thing as you can get some great bargains!

QOTD: I’m a avid wine student studying a wine business degree! I love expanding my knowledge of wine everyday through reading, watching and talking to people as much as i can also looking around creating my wine lists . I also love to play a bit a golf now and again and from time to time get down the athletic track and throw some HAMMER!!!!. but the work for my degree is my first objective atm.

I am still just a newbie, but a new shop just opened up down the street from me that carries quite a bit of Italian wines. Gotta check for these.

QOTD: I collect funk and soul records. check my link for my radio show.

Another very interesting episode. Thanks for continuing to try to introduce new varietals to the Vaynernation. I think I have had a Pinot Bianco, but certainly not more than one or two at most. I am intrigued to say the least.

QOTD: 1) playing or watching sports 2) learning about wine, purchasing, organizing and drinking it

Gary thanks for introducing us to another area of the world. Maybe some day I will be able to check them all off my list. Then I can start all over again. I am glad Mott got in there and tried some, nice thumbs up Mott.

QOTD: My favorite past time is night photography. I think I like the challenge of having to be up later and waiting for the weather to be just right.

This is one of my favorite shows of all time, if for no other reason than the passion that Gary shows at the end of the tasting of the first wine – that’s amazing. Don’t hold back man, tell us how you really feel! That’s the kind of passion that will make me get off my ass and go out and find that wine!

QOTD: I’m a geek and a gamer, and I’m also a writer – so my favorite pastimes? Writing and blogging about technology and video games! That is, when I’m not playing with shiny geeky toys, that is.

QOTD: Being the gastronaut, I love eating, I make it my mandate that if there is something on the menu I’ve never had before, I have to get it. No if’s and’s or buts. I love to eat and I love the drinks that go with them, I’m an eating experience specialist ;)

Awesome! Alto Adige is one of my favorite regions for whites. Kerner and Muller Thurgau from here are pretty damn tasty as well. Try the Canitina Valle Isarco “Aristos” series and let them rock your palate. Seriously dude, the ‘06 Kerner changed my life. (In CA the Muller retails for $15 and the Kerner for $26)

QOTD: Pt. 1: Sharing wine, food and helping others with pairings, etc.,
both in my social life and at work.
When you make successful matches between people, food & wine, that’s the BEST.
I LOVE hitting the mark and assisting others in making the magic happen. : )
Pt. 2: And my favorite treasured activity is cuddling with my daughter and putting her to bed. (Something I rarely get to do since I work nights)

    Hi Gary,

the Germans make fantastic Pinot Bianco too. They call it Weissburgunder. The new wave winemakers such as Van Volxem and Keller, Becker and Schönleber are hot. I Drank a V.V. Weissburgunder the other day, at 10 Euro an absolute steal! Guess what? I had the same problem, that undefinable flavour, garlic and cinnamon, perhaps….. I couldn’t put my finger on it either. But good try!

GV, you were gettin’ fired up there for second with your score heatin to a 92. I dig the head bob though. I was about ready to give some fist pumping hell yeah’s for a second. Kinda bummed that reality struck and you downgraded to 91. It’s cool though, I understand. Will definitely check out the non grigio italian whites.

nothing better than a 4 hr. bicycle ride in the warm sunshine. The only thing that can top that is spending the day with my wife doing the simplest things like having a picnic at the park looking out at English Bay in Vancouver on Rememberance day. Did forget to mention that there was some Gewurztraminer and Cab Franc to accompany the picnic

Great episode, and great wines to look for.

QOTD – Being a reserve police officer, and working to right the little wrongs I can brings immense pleasure to me.

Following that, learning as much as I can about wine.

Love to read, love to cook, love my grandchildren, love baseball.

Try to live each day to make a difference.

Those were a couple of good ep’s! My go to Falanghina is Ocone. Organic. No pesticides, fertilizers, etc.
And waaaay back in the 80’s, as a young server, I loved to sell Tiefenbrunner’s Pinot Bianco by the glass. That’s right. More than 10 years before there was a mindless, sheep mentality push for a bunch of tasteless, pedestrian, factory fabricated, cone spun pasturized PG’s. Lageder’s better’n OK too.

QotD – Music has always been practically as important as breathing for me. Mom and Dad’s 1st BFA were in Piano – a HUGE influence, but bigger still,I was the little brother during the British Invasion. Killed on my 1st instrument (trumpet), and later toured most of the states several times, and then, 12 countries of Europe, and South America. So I’ve pretty much had a blast with music, and made $$ doing it. Busking too, on my free time. loved the travel, but even at home, music remains a core of my identity and soul.
Cycling (as in bike), and reading come in as a close tie for 2nd.
