Buehler is an excellent wine. We went on a tour there – it’s also a beautiful location.

  • i agree and have been dealing with this all night, I think u understand that when they are back up this will be cleared up, the last few episodes before this are an issue for some reason 🙁

  • Kasper its even worse than I thought, if u go back right now and look at last 300-500 episodes there are no comments for ANY of them.. I would never censor, the timing may have been a bad idea but DisQus told us it would take 2 hrs and they have done this many time, the depth of our comments may have hurt us here 🙁

  • MaRc

Gary, nice show once again, but sorry to her….she's like a bimbo sent from napa!

  • jeffsjeff

I agree with this and trust that Gary and the disqus people are working to resolve this. Even the most paranoid among us wouldn't think that Gary would have all of the comments for 400 episodes deleted just to hide some negative feedback from one show. So if they're gone for good, I'll chalk it up to (really) bad timing and some bad service from disqus. And if they come back, it won't be soon enough.

  • You have way too much time on your hands obviously. There is and never has been a more transparent person in the public eye than Gary. Big picture, in a week, who really cares?

  • I actually happened to save the comments on this episode right before we switched over to the Disqus comment system. If they still aren't up by Monday when I get back into the office and have access to my files I'll be more than happy to post them.

Please do the double blind Cab tasting with Buehler's wine in the mix. I am curious about this. Not that you intentionally want to be nice to someone sitting next to you when you score their wine, but whenever you enjoy the company you're drinking with, the wine just tastes better. So, please do. I look forward to seeing it.

I watched the episode, and felt very badly for Helen: her youth and naivite prevented her from representing well a very nice wine. I wasn’t going to comment, but was going to buy the wine. I read the comments thinking others would have more input specifically on the wine. There was some good constructive criticism for Helen; I still felt no need to comment.

Then I read Lisa Buehler’s comments (Helen’s mom). How disappointing. Being a business-owner myself, I do occasionally see other business-owners act in a manner and say things to their customers that reflect badly on themselves, their business, and their product. Most experienced business-people know how to take criticism; ignore criticism when warranted; and turn it into an opportunity to work it to their advantage when at all possible–unfortunately Mrs. Buehler has missed this opportunity.

I feel badly for the Lisa Buehler that she was not able to handle this situation in a professional manner. I fear for the family that this reflects how they handle their business in general, and therefore it is not a good omen for the future of their business.

I also conduct seminars on good business preactices, specifically: how to handle negative publicity to improve your business and the public-face of your business. It requires objectivity, expansiveness, generosity, and yes, sometimes a thick-skin, refusing to see criticism as mud-slinging, a commitment to “acting classy” & rising above the low-level of some of your critics–which means you don’t get in the mud and sling back: this never, ever makes anything about the public-face of your business better.

“Defending your young and your business” can be handled much better than this was done here. Again, I feel badly for the Buehler-business, and fear for their future if they persist in wallowing in the negative and do not turn this into an opportunity for personal-growth and business-growth. The fact that Helen wishes to be invited back is a very good beginning. Attitude-improvement and product-knowledge should most definitely be undertaken first. I wish the best for them, and hope that they will see this as an opportunity for growth.

This is why I am a lurker. I hate sorting through all the negative comments and comments about non-sense things. I like watching Gary and enjoy the education I get from the show regardless of the format or guest. I am new to wine (1.5 yrs) and was introduced to wine by Gary on The Internet Superstars of all places. Since then I have watched every episode and love learning about wine. Gary could put Kendall Jackson adds in the middle of his podcast, it still wouldn't bother me because I am getting knowledge for FREE. Keep it up GV.

I had a feeling a lot of content might be missing, cause I randomly clicked the Heidi Barrett show just to see if the old shows had comments and it didn't. This can be hopefully figured out soon….? Good thing Dan found the gourmetlibrary-link for #796 so that at least the conspiracy theories can be laid to rest.

QOTD: I honestly have no opinion. Gonna morph the QOTD into my own statement … I hope the Jets do well in the playoffs until they get to the Chargers … then my pick is the Chargers all the way for their first Superbowl win.

  • Skhoffma

Helen seems like a very nice girl, but she should really know something about wines if she's participating in this show. I'm a relatively new young wine drinker and her lack of insight into her own wines that she brought on the show was disappointing and reinforced a negative stereotype about my generation.

@Mike Nelson Spot on! I want to see the double blind!!! Helen is 20 somethin’ fluffy hot and didn’t do her family’s brand any favors. Can’t wait to read Mommy’s comments.

I'm thinkin' it's just a glitch in the new system…

    Beautifully stated!!

Killed!??!?? Most comments made! Will bring WLTV into the forefront…for better or worse!??!

I notice that those who were unhappy with Helen and Mama Buehler have said they will not buy Buehler wines. I'm curious if that extends to the KDV and Reynoso wines? It seems to me that they deserve some consideration after Gary's comments. I've had the Buehler and KDV wines, and they are great, but has anyone tried any of the Reynoso varietals? I've checked their website and they also have a Syrah and Cab… The prices looked reasonable and considering Gary doesn't like Sauv Blanc he gave it a decent rating. If you've tried them let me know what you think of the Reynoso wines.

I think I am in love… Going to look for your wines.

First off, I watch WLTV because of the knowledge and insight it gives me into wine. I've been watching since early 2008 (when I first got into wine) and will keep on doing so.

The thing about being on a show that caters to people who fancy themselves geeks in any domain is that you had better know your stuff. Not knowing your stuff will leave you open to criticism. How do I know? Gary was nice enough to invite on WLTV and I got FLAMED in the comments because I'm FAR from a wine geek (I love the stuff but I'm not as passionate about it as I am about my profession). But in the end (like Gary said), when you put yourself out there, you leave yourself open to the opinions of others WHO HAVE NEVER STOOD BEFORE 80,000+ PEOPLE TO TALK ABOUT A TOPIC AND WHO USE THE ANONYMITY OF THE INTERNET TO GIVE THEM THE COJONES TO TALK CRAP… and the opinions of other who understand what you're trying to do and may (or may not) agree with you.

At the end of the day, I still got what I came for: insight on wine by GARY VAYNERCHUK. Maybe the girl wasn't a wine geek but who the hell cares? She stood for her brand and let me know that her family is serious about making wine. WLTV is about Gary's insight and whether or not we agree with him or not. Stooping to misogynistic comments on a website is like vandalizing a grave… A PUNK MOVE. It's like leaving a Post-It note to pick a fight with somebody. If you didn't like the guest, say so but keep your insults to yourself. You didn't like that she didn't offer up more insight into the logistics of her family's wine making? then say so… don't stoop to making unfounded comments about her. I'm a lurker but crap like this will get me to voice my concerns.

If you thought this episode was crap.. that's OK. Say so and keep it moving. You want to talk “ish” about someone you don't know and will never meet? then you got very little in the way of character.

Keep doing your thing Gary. I didn't get much from the guest (aside from the fact that she's trying to represent her family's winery as best as she can and that she's easy on the eyes… I had to mention that), but I got what I came for: Gary's thoughts on a particular wine.

Roger Gil (a.k.a. the guy who got flamed by commenters on WLTV #682)

I plan to visit the Buehler Vineyards next time I am in Cali… and make a big purchase.

  • This episode was more interesting to me than a lot of the more solid standard-content episodes.

  • friscograpes

I thought Helen was adorable! So she's young. Who cares people. I'de watch her anytime.

  • Phil M’Glassup

Hey what happened to all the comments?

  • mikebest

Gary you are great! I love your show; it saddens me that people can be that way.

  • ctjones44

Wow, Lisa Dollar Buehler. You obviously know nothing about traditional public relations and certainly nothing about online public relations. This is a perfect example of what not to do. You are killing your brand by doing this. I don’t necessarily agree with all the harsh comments towards your daughter, but the fact that you posted this gives me reason to never buy your wine again and I will make a point to never recommend your wine again (even though it is a tremendous wine at a tremendous price).

  • winelikeme

Please…there are plenty of people out there who will visit the Napa Valley whether it be for the first or 20th time … no matter how bad the reviews of Helen have been…and there are tons of winemakers out there who would kill to be on Gary's show. Conspiracy theories? Threats? …You can't be serious
P.S. I think you mean “quid pro quo”

  • Whoah. I've commented a few hundred times, and all of a sudden it looks new!!?!?

  • Don Simpson

Sweet, we’re back in ACTION!!! I actually like the new comment format and its great you can see everyone’s picture. Which reminds me, I need to put mine up.

    RIIIIGHT OOOOON!!!!!!!! :0)

  • tbone

I've only been watching the show for 3 months, but every other guest I've seen at least tried to name some of the smells and tastes they experienced. This girl would have been a horrible guest if she was a random person, but the fact that she is selling wine is hilarious. And she wants to eventually make her own wine!!! Good luck…

  • Don Simpson

@ MooseSox, just saw your comment on the Rocky-esque training sequence, hilarious!

  • Phredd3

Yeah, now that I see this system in action, it is pretty cool. I miss my original handle, but it is worth it for the threading and interactivity. Good choice.

  • Phredd3

Hmm. My last post was supposed to be a threaded reply to my earlier comment. The threading threw an error. I'm using a legacy browser (IE6 – not by choice, believe me), and I wonder if that's the source of the problem.

  • I just wanted to add a post to the group supporting Helen. Helen is clearly not a seasoned representative for the families winery, and should have done some more homework before appearing– That being said, if you place yourself in her shoes I bet she was nervous to be taped and broadcast to hundreds of thousands of people and did well anyways. Good job Helen, you did great! And more importantly you will just get better with more experience.

  • JayZee13

OK. Since my original post when there were only a couple hundred of comments was refused due to the changeover to the new comment system, I will try again. I thought this was a poor episode. I thought Helen, although a lovely young lady, displayed a frightening lack of knwoledge in a field she claims to have studied and even intends to work and make wine (really?!). I won't bash her for her comments. They were genuine and she was trying. I thought Gary did an uncharacteristically good job of trying to interview her and did not even interrupt her much if at all. of course, this was likely because she seemed so clueless.

As for Buehler Cabernet, I have had a couple of different vintages and found them to be decent Napa Cabs at a very good price point for Napa Cabs. Nothing that happened here would influence me to buy or not to buy Buehler products in the future. Why should it?

And to SSChris and Kahuna, you slay me, dudes!

    Peace. Love. Enjoy wine.

  • B******t !!!

  • winelikeme

    @Phredd3
I am having the same problem, my responses are not threading to who I want them to.

  • Still Winelikeme? try again!
