lines of the day – ‘Mallorca…you could walk it coast to coast if you’re in great shape like Mott’ and (of barging a young Pats fan) ‘I don’t want to be defined by that moment; that was a 65, in other moments I’m a 99’

Very enjoyable episode with really interesting guest (who manages to hang in there despite not having the best grasp of English). GV turning into a very good listener….at last !

Great episode, great guest. And loved the qotd.

QOTD: Absolutely a great team. One of the best sets of strikers in the game, from Henry to zlatan to messi. I do think the backline is their leakiest link compared to other european clubs(Chelsea, a healthy ManU). I don't think Marquez is very good anymore. Puyol is the only good player back there. And Valdes is an average keeper.

vinosapien, why are you “mixing” the way, well, the grapes they are doing the wines,I'm not talking about that. They are a couple of Wineries donig wine with callet,(I`m member of the Balearic Somelliers Asiosation, and we did last year a taste of callet wines from diferent wineries),Gran Vinya Son Caules,Collita Callet,Vi D'Auba, etc.

I´ve never considered your commentary as offensive. I´ve just tried to explain what, in my opinion, Miquel Angel said when he stated that he is not happy with his actual country (Spain).

On the other hand, I truly recommend AN/2. It has a very good price/quality value and it´s a surprising wine. I also have a bottle of AN, but I haven´t tasted yet.

  • garagar

Vinosapien, I understand what Miquel Angel tried to explain about Quibia. But what annoys me is the latter commentary about he doesn´t feel happy with his actual country.

I would like to hear a clear explanation from Miquel Angel about that, because I really like what he is doing in a place where the usual is to build houses for German and English tourists. If I´m wrong I´d be glad to retract my impressions.

  • garagar

I see that you share my thoughts. Me gustaría que lo aclarara, porque si no le gustamos como compatriotas no tendría sentido comprar sus vinos ¿no?

Por cierto, ¿has probado el '4 kilos' que también procede de Mallorca?

  • Karen in Canada

Yes, I’m a lurker and this is my first time commenting. GV, started downloading your potcasts about a year ago. You are an acquired taste (just like many wines) that I appreciate more and more as I watch your show. Keep making it real for us!

Was happy to hear about an unfamiliar grape, Callet. Imagine my surprise when my first google search returned the following:

    http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Callet

    Cal´let
    n. 1. A trull or prostitute; a scold or gossip.
    v. i. 1. To rail or scold.

Not quite what I was expecting. 🙂

QOTD: Not a soccer (european football) follower (and us, we call it soccer here in Canada too!)

uh oh Should I use my real name or maybe another alias? Great show Gary and great guest. I'm trying to watch the game and read all the comments. Tough multitasking even when sober.

Forget soccer, J JETS E JETS T JETS S JETS, Gary you must be pumped, great game..now it will get interesting vs Chargers. Great guest (and that's why in 2010 you need to continue to have them to keep the show interesting), who despite his english was interesting and passonite about his wines. I have tried the AN/2 and also enjoyed it. http://www.winelx.com

    Congratulations On Your Team's Win!!! : )

  • mikebest

Well done to the Jets Gary. Really good show, nice to go for something completely different.

QOTD: Barcelona plays very attractive football. Thierry Henry and Messi are two of my favorite players. Cricket still rules though.

    Hey Gary
Forgot to say how I loved this show. Great to see a european guest for a change (I live in Denmark). I really love how the spaniards often get “philosophical” on you, when you know that deep down inside, they basically just want to get hammered. Not that reflection and wine is a bad pairing….He seemed like a great guy and the AN2 sounds like a steal.
By the way: just got into Gigondas because of you. Isn't it time to do another show on that? And what about valpolicella? THAT is a long time ago, no?

  • Bill

Good ep. Way to mix it up.

  • kasperhip

Ooops forgot: FC Barcelona is the best soccer team in the last 30 years.

  • MJ

Don't understand why you showcase these wines when the message comes up on you video that they are “Not Available”!
Hello, why talk about wines that we cannot purchase?
    grrrrrrr 🙁

  • D-Rod

O le le, o la la,
Ser del Barça es, el millor que hi ha!

To save anyone else the googling, FC Barcelona is the first team in the history of modern soccer to win a total of SIX titles in the course of a calendar year. Spanish champions, European champions, and WORLD champions. 'nuff said!

  • devinos

kasperhip, maybe you know something about winw, but about soccer….,the best without any doubt REAL MADRID

  • Cullen

Real Madrid is the most successful team in Spanish football and was voted by FIFA as the most successful club of the 20th century, having won a record thirty-one La Liga titles, seventeen Spanish Cups, a record nine European Cups and two UEFA Cups.

FC Barcelona come in second as one of only three clubs never to have been relegated from La Liga and the most successful club in Spanish football after Real Madrid, having won nineteen La Liga titles, a record twenty-five Spanish Cups, eight Spanish Super Cups, four Eva Duarte Cups and two League Cups.

Great guest and wine discussion. I thoroughly enjoyed this guy. Nothing like a language barrier to keep it all so honost. you move a little fast for the foreign guests, though. Just you, I know. Would like to know where i can get the Negra 2.

QOTD – I have no idea… Go Colts!!

    jc

  • Brian

QOTD – Don't know football (soccer) but love Mallorca's best contribution to sport, Raffa Nadal.

  • What are you talking about? Buy here http://www.wine-searcher.com/find/anima+negra/1/usa. Gary’s show is not about selling Winelibrarys wine selection.

  • PatentDan

Looking forward to the blind tastings! Love those!

  • Moderator approved replies to comments. Doesn't that conflict with what you said at the beginning of the show?

  • WilFrancis

Gary! First time commenter, Loooooong time watcher! Great show, love the passion, keep it up man!

  • kasperhip

    Hey Devinos
I'm not that much of a soccer fan, but what I do know is that I like the mentality and playfullness that seems to be characteristic of Barca more than I like what's has been going on in Real for the last 10 years. Obviously, Barca is buying good players to make a world class team (with the emphasis on 'team'), but they seem to be trying to build players as well. In Real, there has been a clear tendency towards buying players just in order to sell shirts. We all know that a world class team doesn't consist of ten Zidanes or Ronaldos, but of the right combination of players. You don't nescessarily have the best team in the world, because you have the money to buy the eleven best players in the world, and thank god for that. Right now I actually think that Barca is going the wrong way, in trying to have too many stars on the team….why do they need Zlatan when they have Messi?

  • kasperhip

He is looking good for the Australian open. Do you think he can win? I think he can beat Federer, but what if the final is Djokovic-Nadal? I'm not sure….

  • Dan Caragher

    Gary –

What's shakin' my friend? Good show, great guest, I know I've seen those wines around before, but haven't had the chance to try them. I am sure you're pretty pumped about the Jets turn out, but I gotta be honest I was routing for the Bengals!

One thing about Miquelangel, the only word that was bouncing around in my head for the entire show wa…”integrity!” He's a good dude! Keep it real…

  • italianwinelovr

GV-Great way to handle the situation…exactly what I expected from you – you always have been honest with us so I felt to answer honestly would be the only way!

Love the label. Red is such a forceful color! Bold! and his opinion about the biodynamic think I felt that way for a long time!! Terrific interview and will for sure seek this wines out to try something new!!

QOTD: no real opinion good luck Jets!

Gary, are you kidding? Leave the flag in place…99.999% of posters should appreciate it…

Why would you be upset about having a flag on a comment section unless you want to act like a 17 year old thug with internet muscles

Hello Danial, every time a viewer on my site tries to post a comment as a guest it says need a valid email however the emails are always good?
Regardless of Chrome or IE it does not work. Can you tell me why?

  • Wilfrancis u rock, thnx for joining us 🙂

  • Krunch

Gary, Great way to handle the situation of the last blog, Great show.

QOTD: Well since they have Renaldo from Brazil how could you NOT like them?

  • Wibe46

Hi…I'm a huge fan of wine library tv for 300 episodes…First comment for me !!!
Great show and great wine philosophy of your lovely guest, i like it a lot.
here we go for 300 more shows !!!

QOTD : I like Fc Barcelona but I'm french and my heart beats for Olympique de Marseille

  • QOTD: OLE!

Great guest, honest, straight forward, and loves his wines…I'm looking at tickets for Mallorca now!

  • ChrisD

Way to go Jets! Seems they have a new life.

I think the Pete Carroll news really fired up Mark Sanchez for some reason. Thanks Pete for leaving!

Also, Bengals defense just stopped playing(running) the last half which really helped.

Next week at San Diego is going to be hard, but the Chargers always seem to choke in the playoff games.

  • wayno da wino

Hey ChrisD, Don't be raggin' on me Choker-Deluxe Chargers………. :0)

  • DenverDarlin'

Yes, the anonymity of the internet seems to embolden the inarticulate. Thank you for “puttin' it out there”, GV! I have learned so much about wine from WLTV.
And thanks for coming to Denver on your book signing tour. It was a thrill to meet you!
Loved the Anima Negra show and learning about the varietals.

  • cgomezmoreno

Nice episode with very interesting wines. I really liked the AN/2 when I tried it.

QOTD. FC Barcelona's current team is one of the best I've seen, improving on the Dream Team from the 90's. As a whole Barcelona have a great playing philosophy of respecting the ball and playing attractive football. That being said their current management is mixing up too much separatist politics with what should be just a sport.

  • cgomezmoreno

WL. I like the new format of the comments, but please give us the option to display all the comments in one page. It was very useful before to be able to search for key words and now you have to skip through a number of pages which is a pain. Thanks!

  • GV we know you encourage all opinions which is why the last episode had so many. Any guest with a “playoff-beard” like that is going to rock; he has kind of a Capt. Lou Albano look to him too.

QOTD: I know nothing about the Barcelona team, won't pretend to know.

Good job on the NFL predictions…have more faith in your Jets LOL. Tough game this week with the cross-country travel and a good Chargers team.

  • Gary,

Were you able to work a deal for some of the AN/2? I saw it this weekend at the Whole Foods by my house. They were selling it for $25! Lame.

  • Mike in C-town

Double bonus!!!! Jets win and the Pats “dropped the ball”, fumbled and threw it away, etc. Outta here!
