This guest is probably okay but Jesus…does he like talking about himself…and, I’m sorry mate, your stories are not the most interesting. GV pretends to be interested but it’s pretty obvious that he’s as bored as hell. A rare dud

GV & Fastball – Good stories man, eat a peach!

  • Phil G

Little light on the wine – but pretty heavy on the good stories – a bit more of a changeup of an episode, however. Good stuff.

QOTD – not sure… Chat. Greysac was a good wine Bordeaux for around $15, but haven't had any since 2003 and 2005….

  • Classic episode Gary, an a very entertaing guest. Thanks fo indulging the stories.

  • Great episode. I really want to try those wines.

  • Mike S

Thought this was going to be a miss but turned out to be a great episode!

  • no doubt girl child. groove your lingua transmission and let the masses fit between the lines each time…posts, i’m betting you textin your beam of consciousness. Out.

  • KVM1985

Thanks for the show! I remember those two songs from middle/high school! Brought back some memories πŸ™‚

  • Vinacull

Gary, I loved this EP! Didn't know what to expect, but Miles turned out to be a very cool guest with great stories to share, and that's what it's all about. It helped that one of the burgundy's was rocking out. Cheers.

  • plcb

QOTD: I would say that I generally drink wine from anywhere in France but Bordeaux. I've never had an expensive Bordeaux. I've had plenty of value Bordeaux which have been fine. When I splurge in France, it's always Burgundy.

  • pawncop

Really enjoyed this episode, I am a total geek when it comes to the history of anything.

QOTD – still too new to be able to answer in a reasonable fashion.

  • ilbee

    Instant classic!

  • ewb

Way to go Gary. You just let Miles tell any story he wanted without interruption. Keep up the good work.

  • rmkriete

    Great show….Loved it!

  • jakeskakun

One of the best Gary! Cheers.

  • Gary, will you ever learn that “kasha” is buckwheat in English??? You keep using the reference, might as well learn the right way to communicate to other non-Russian speakers… πŸ™‚

GARY! One of the best episodes in a long time! Miles was awesome. That would have been perfect for a laid back friday episode.

  • elaineegan

Gary, What a great show and a lovely man. Miles has such a great story particularly when so many people are searchiing and trying to live life fully. Thank you.
    Eaine

  • Seems like Gary had learned to try and guide the interview by preventing the guest from drinking the wines sooner than he can. Having said this, it makes Mr Two Hands even better!

QotD: Never had much bordeaux's to begin with though I've scored an '05 Las Combes, that off the bat, probably will be the top for me.

  • Now that was fun. I'm getting Gregg Allman flashbacks…extremely entertaining on both sides. Thank you…thank you very much. I really needed some stories, helps me relax and learn about wine.

  • Richie

Awesome episode. Miles was a great guest. Really loved the back story. It gives us great insight into where he's coming from. Looking forward to more interesting guests like Miles in the future. Gary keep up the good work, episode #900 is creeping up fast.

  • Don Simpson

GREAT SHOW! Enjoyed the stories, he's a character. Now I have that Fastball song stuck in my head, thanks a lot πŸ™‚

QOTD: $70 is still out of my price range! For Bordeaux I try to dance in the $20-$40 range.

  • Don Simpson

Great cellarrat, now that Fastball song is REALLY stuck in my head, ha.

  • I really enjoyed the episode. This is great.
Miles was awesome and that would have been perfect for a laid back Friday episode.
    Nice show..!!

  • Cuse Wino

What an amazingly fun show. Great life's lesson from Miles that sometimes you have to just keep trying it and push on through and great things can happen. Some timely advice from Greg Allman never hurts πŸ™‚

QOTD- not a big bordeaux drinker, but my favorite of all time is Chateau D'Arcins. Had it in Paris and drink it when I can get it in the states. Nothing amazing but a very solid wine

  • teckdeck2008

wow. awesome stories dude. i have to say though, making tips is way better if you can manage it. but i could see why you liked working in the wine room. lol.
    Qotd:
I just had a 2003 Superieur Bordeaux two weeks ago and it was pretty good for $15. Not the best; it could have had a finer polish to it, but a solid entry for $15.

  • DaveyJohnson

Fun show, I enjyoed all of it.

  • David_from_Michigan

    Gary,

Never seen you better! Awesome, the way you pulled this out. Amazing guest, of course. Crushing it.

  • papavb

Whew first time commenting, former lurker lol

loved the show, getting into burgundy recently, I had a joseph drouhin bourgogne appellation that was rather perfunctory this weekend

qotd: chateau sansonnet 2006, i think gary would second that haha

  • A dumb Rhein king

Oh, ha, didn’t realize what their music was. I am horrible with names and hadn’t looked the band up yet, but the lyrics totally did it for me. It’s funny that I’ve been hearing it for 10-12 years and never knew who sang it.

    Speaking about being blind …

  • A dumb Rhein king

Thanks for the link, I never knew the muse behind the song.

Interesting story. In life they were only known by a few, but in death they were known (albeit indirectly) by millions.

  • Anonymous

I know the feeling. I use to listen to oldies all the time when I was
a kid, never knew who did the song untill several years later.

Sent directly from my brain to your computer/cellular device.

  • A dumb Rhein king

This was such a sweet ep, I wish I had time to get to it sooner. Miles was so interesting that Gary barely had to ask any questions. I was wondering about the accent until he said that he was going around between Texas and California. The wine room job sounds so great that I would think about quitting my dev job, but they fed me first, so they have my loyalty πŸ™‚

Randomness – Gary, your shirt reminds me of a hermit crab that I had when I was little. The shell he picked for a home was stripped and those colors.

QOTD: I have no advice to give.

  • A dumb Rhein king

Huh, I guess I've always known it as Kasha. I wouldn't have known it as buckwheat. But now I know them both. The one that got me for a while was Cassis. At first I couldn't find it on Google, but now I see that it comes up.

  • Absolutely killer episode. As someone in the restaurant industry I love hearing about other restaurant folk.

QOTD: To be honest, I haven't been able to explore Bordeaux much further than the $10-15 bottles. So instead of getting a knock your socks off Bordeaux I'll have to recommend http://corkd.com/wine/view/110992-2005-chateau-… I think I paid $8 or so for it. Not great by any means, but definitely drinkable especially when you're on a tight budget.

  • JayZee13

Loved the show. I usually rag on GV for having non-wine guests or talking about something other than wine, but this was a really interesting show. Miles was cool and his stories were great. In fact, I think Gary is right – there is a really good movie in there somewhere.

QOTD: My favorite Bordeaux that I can afford (definitely under $170) is Lynch-Bages. I'm also partial to Smith Haut-Lafitte.

  • jayhitek

    Fun good episode.
    QOTD: No idea. Sorry man.

  • Pierre

nice episode! he's a cool man
under 25$ Aiguilhe is really good to me
I have a few but dont drink often 70-100$ bordeaux..
    I'ld say Leoville Barton

  • adam gaydosh

QOTH: 2005 Ets Ouzoulias Pavillon Rouge (France, Bordeaux, Bordeaux SupΓ©rieur) – great little table wine for only $10.

  • jsums

Really fun show. Great story. QOTD – I'm a huge fan of Chateau La Vieille Cure Fronsac. The 2000 and 2003 are two of my favorite Bordeaux I've ever had…and they're still drinking relatively young. I can't wait to see what they do over the next 5-10 years. I'm also itching to get my hands on some of the 2005.

  • Nik_B

Great guest – this was more like a talk show than a wine show, but it was still very enjoyable to watch. I'm a big fan of Burgundy.. shame the wines didn't show very well.

QOTD – have very little interest in Bordeaux, so not worth me making a recommendation.

Seriously nice show. Defiantly a little different but a great change. I know it is a wine show but these none wine guests just add to it so much while the rest are so much the same.

$75 and below, I always look to off year Ducru Beaucaillou, or most vinages of Gruaud Larose. Probably best values i’ve had are Valrose or Haut Gardere.
