Gary Vaynerchuk wants to share one of his favorite under the radar grapes- Nebbiolo. This grape is big in the Piedmont, which most people have had as Barbaresco or Barolo. He tastes 3 entry level Nebbiolos.

    QOTD 2: I’ve had a lot of nebbiolo’s (Langhe, Barolo, Gattinara, Barbaresco, Napa) I can’t remember one in particular, but I dig the varietal.

    I’ve been trying to find more nebbiolo, but it is quite hard to come by. I think I’ve only had about 8-10 myself. The Malvira is available in the UK so I will have to try it.

    QOTD 2: I discovered nebbiolo on a trip to Alba, Italy and loved it. I haven’t really explored it much but Gary has just inspired me to continue the quest.

    QOTD2: I’ve enjoyed several Barbarescos quite a bit. I haven’t had a Barolo yet but I have one in my wine fridge. I had 100% Nebbiolo last weekend for about $18 that was absolutely terriible. I wish I wrote down the name of it. Overoaked and really, which made it taste even more dominated by the oak. Attrocious.

    QOTD: 2006 Valtellina Sassella by Triacca. $25, really earthy, a bit floral, lighter tannin. Reminds me of a Carema, or a lighter Barolo with some age on it. Great buy.

    I was in Alba/Lange in March/April and can’t say enough good things about it. Personaly, forget Tuscany, go to Piedmonte!

    QOTD: I’m still looking for a really good Aussie example, but for value I tend to go for Renato Ratti Langhe DOC Nebbiolo which I can get here in Hong Kong at a pretty responable price.

    Eric Gardner – Oregon City High School Class of 1978, weird time for music, listened to Talking Heads, Elvis Costello, The Sex Pistols, The Clash… AND Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, The Who, David Bowie, Van Halen, Bruce Springsteen, Yes, Rolling Stones, Kinks, Doobie Brothers, Bob Seger, Bad Company, Aerosmith & ZZ Top. Love Nebbiolo, I think it is the best entry level wine available. The Paitin is good the first day, but even better if you leave it open on the counter and drink it the next day. I think that all the Paitns are undervalued, but most of the Langhe Nebbiolos that I’ve had are a slam dunk. Langhe is the home of serious wine makers.
