2006 Sea Smoke Ten….silky smooth and intense flavors…As a long time St Louis Rams fan my super bowl prediction is the JETS

I haven’t commented in awhile because WL doesn’t ship to OK anymore, but i guess my protest is over even though I’m the only one who really knew about it

  • QOTD: Nothing too fancy. Probably just a bottle of La Crema Sonoma Coast I shared over dinner with a close friend. Hit the mood right.

  • Great Show!! Not too big on Pinot, but I might just have to hunker down and give the Alta Maria a shot. As far as the Super Bowl, Patriots-Saints, with the Saints winning 38-31.

  • Allan

    Great head-to-head.

Qotd: ? & Cono Sur 20 Barrels Pinot Noir, Love It. Also some NZ Pinot called Felton Road.

I live in Bethany, bro…and when DID WL ever ship to OK? Oh well, there’s always Brown Derby.

they stopped shipping to okla. when dhl went out of business. pick my order up in wichita falls, texas at fedex center about an hour away.there are many online distributors that still ship to oklahoma.i guess if they pay fees for a “license”.haven’t bought from anyone else. really like wine library selection and promptness.

  • Anonymous

i gather it was not something wine library could control.someone else in the chain of shipping.

QOTD 1): I know this isn’t really possible, but just for kicks: This year’s Super Bowl will be between your dirty Jers green Jets and my NE Pats, with predictable results (NE victorious).

QOTD 2): As always, instead of listing my all-time favorite of the category, I’d like to mention my recent BEST VALUE PINOT NOIR here so that my fellow commentors can try to seek it out and cash in. SO:
2008 SEAN MINOR “FOUR BEARS” Carneros Pinot Noir. This is silky, complex, lively, and a steal at K&L’s price of $13.99. For the kids, it’s also got a 91 point WE rating with a great review description and an Editor’s Choice designation. SEEK THIS OUT.

QOTD: Not really a prediction but my wish would be for a win by the Carolina Panthers. Dare to dream…

Best Pinot this year has to be Domaine Brescou in the CΓ΄tes de Thongue area of Languedoc. Sort of a cross between New World fruitiness and Old World complexity. Lovely.

  • My predictions are that the Vikings will never win the Superbowl in my lifetime, and that Gary will do a mead show soon. I think I might be wearing him down. I can almost taste it.

QOTD: There was one I had at a great dinner with my parents in cologne but I can’t remember the name.

  • Oakmon’s BF

That?s what happens when Mott?s not around.

    Mott! Comeback, we need you.

  • Can’t think of favorite Pinot, will have to review my notes. As for super bowl prediction: Saints v Ravens. (sorry)

  • KAHUNA

LOL – why it can not get any worse- is it true Jets are contacting Kurt Warner about coming out of retirement-

Nice show GV, head to head is always nice, and is helping prove that price has little impact on the quality of wine. The price structure is crazy in the wine world, take Bordeaux x Chateauneauf for example: Although in CDP the yields (Concentration) limit is a lot higher (2800 Liters/hectare), nearly twice of Bordeaux (5500 Liters/hectare), the top CDP wines sells for a lot cheaper than some 5th Growth Bx. Go figure?! Bordeaux just has better marketing.

QOTD: Pulenta Estate Pinot Noir 2008, from Argentina.

Thanks, G. Love the Cali. pinot. I visited the Russian River Valley in the Spring and was more than impressed with the wines, the people, the beauty of that region. Hoping to get down to the Central Coast soon.

QOTD: Don’t really have one. Most memorable would probably be a Papapietro Perry that was absolutely gorgeous.

  • Lvine

QOTD 2: Casa Marin Lo Abarca Hills Pinot Noir, from the San Antonio Valley in Chile.

    Saludos!

Gary, what a shame!! The Santa Maria ins’t available in Europe.
When are you going to ship to Europe? I, and with me A LOT MORE, would love it.

    QOTD1. Europe, you know …..
QOTD2. That was the Momo, Marlborough, New Zealand. But I have to admit, I not often drink Pinot Noir.

    Qotd1: Ravens
Qotd2: Was lucky enough to get my hands on a 1953 Remoissenet et Fils Vosne-Romanee which I shared w 3 other friends in the wine industry. I knew it was good vintage for Burgundy, but was pretty curious as to whether the wine would still be holding up (w age, how it had been stored all those years, etc.). It was still holding up and was great.

  • Allan

Has anybody seen Da Waynooooo da Vinooooooooo??? What happend to that guy???

Did the winetruck run him over ?

  • I just enjoy discovering the wines of Burgundy, and whilst the new world pinots I’ve had are probably ‘nicer’ I enjoy the Burgundy more.

QOTD1: Up in the air…probably a Saints repeat.

QOTD2: Belle Glos 2007 Pinot Noir, Las Alturas Vyd., Santa Lucia Highlands. Comes from the Caymus Family-actually bought it after a tasting at the Caymus facility in late 2009.

I have had the provliege of getting to know Paul Wilkens and James Ontiveros of Alta Maria. I have tasted through their wines at James’ home and everything they make is well crafted and beautiful. By far one of the best Pinot producers I have found so far.

QOTD: Too soon to tell on a Super Bowl prediction. Best Pinot in 2010, Ken Wright.

  • Thanks for the shout out on our Pinot Noir!

    Cheers,
    Sean Minor

Thank you for the Alta Maria recommendation.

  • QOTD: I don’t like to make SB predictions, but I know it won’t be the Jets. NE, Ravens, Indy, and SD still the tops (even though SD and Indy lost) in the AFC.

NFC is a tossup, I think the Pack could bring it, and you have to think the Saints could go back.

    Ravens/Packers maybe?

    (go Ravens!)

I’ll skip the gloating over the Ravens win Monday.

QOTD: Belle Glos 2007 Pinot Noir, Las Alturas Vyd., Santa Lucia Highlands. One of the best pinots I’ve ever had.

  • Yes, I actually have sampled one of the Pinots and enjoyed it quite a bit. Gulp now the pressure is on. Hope you do too :)!

Good episode and will look for the Alta Maria.

QOTD – Minimal if any Pinot Noir’s in 2010.

Super Bowl – as stated in the previous epidsode, who cares? Best of luck to your Jets, otherwise no interest.

Phillips Hill Ring of Fire 2008-thanks for turning me on to this wine. Great wine but owner was
one of the most unappealing guest you have had on.

Washington vs New England- Pats win(sorry I am a Jets fan too)

  • LOL.

QOTD – Packers and New England (or maybe the Jets – kiss up to GV). Favorite pinot noir is the magnum of Navarro 2005 that I opened last weekend. Everyone agreed it was darn good.

QOTD: 2007 Foxen Bien Nacido Block Select
    Patriots v. Eagles

Great show thanks for all of the info! do you think lower alcohol by volume had anything to do with more consistent mouth feel and why does Alta Maria rep Santa Maria on the byline but then it says “California Pinot” where are the grapes coming from? THANKS!

    Is Shaquille eastern European?
QOTD – Domaine Drouhin and many others from the Willamette.
