Super, super, super pumped GV before an important Jets game, and it comes across in the episode which is pure quality. As the great man would say…Kudos

Yes…. especially Rieslings and Moscato’s this time of year along with the red’s I normally drink all year round.

  • Nice show! I always drive white wine, but at the moment I’m drinking pouilly fumรฉ, and I like it.

    QOTD: Yes and Hey!

DISLIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get a little variety in your life! ๐Ÿ˜› I still love those Danish women though! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

  • Eagleputt

Well I was just giving Gary a hard time of course being a Seahawk fan (we’ve traded barbs before), but WOW, what a dismantling.

  • If $16 is $20 then there is a nice $4 price break happening @ WL.

Sorry about the Jets last night.

QOTD: Yes, I drink white as well as red anytime of the year.

  • Hey
    QOTD; YES!

Man, sorry your team didn’t show up for the game yesterday… Is it why you DON’T SHIP WINES to Massachusetts? Gary, can something be done? I know numerous examples of wine clubs, etc shipping wine to MA. I want to get the pinot you mentioned, as well as your wine club offerings, but I can’t, being a MA resident. Gary, have your people to talk to some people, can you do something about it? There is a whole untapped market for you here. Crappy WSJ club ships to MA, how come you can’t?

QOTD: Yes. There is always an occasion to have some white wine.

  • ALLAN

Love variety. GV preaches variety all the time, but somehow still fails to do A Single show on Madeira? Why? I don’t get it.

He’s reviewed Chardonnay hundreds of times. And what about Sherry? Only one full show and the one with Jancis R. ???

    Cheers anyhoot! ๐Ÿ˜›

Ohhhhh, those women….. (*BIG SMILE*) :)))))

Hey! (You said, just say hey). Nice show and I am impressed because from your tasting notes, there were actually two Chardonnays that I might like – which is unusual because I am not a big Chard fan – not quite ABC, but I’m very picky about which Chardonnays I will drink.

Sorry, I cannot give you my Jets prediction (although it would have been similar to yours). I don’t think anyone could have predicted that bloodbath. Brady just shredded the Jets defense all night and what was with those three stupid picks thrown by Sanchez? Ouch! Sorry about that, GV.

QOTD: We tend to pair wine with our food and we tend to drink a lot of reds year round. However, if the meal calls for it, we have white. Last night we had grilled chicken breast with a Worcestershire Dijon marinade and a pecan butter glaze. I served a 2008 Ravines Cabernet Franc from the Finger Lakes and it was lovely. Could have probably had a white just as easily, though. We do drink a few more whites in the summer at picnics and such, but overall, the season or weather doesn’t dictate too much what we drink in wine. And we do drink a bottle of wine with almost every meal either at home or at fine dining restaurants. Of course, at the bar after softball or golf, it is usually beer being consumed.

  • hey, i feel like the biggest punk, i watch every single episode but honestly have not commented in over a year. what a punk ass I am!!! well im back look out nypete and kahuna…

QOTD: A big yes! While I definitely drink far more reds during the winter than whites, my palate can’t take drinking reds exclusively, so for every 2-3 bottles of red I drink, I drink one white as well.

  • TommyB

    Hey.

  • TommyB

Hey – QOTDaye… Its a lovelee dae… and the sun is shining; everywhere I go… I see people smiling… (guess that tune folks).
Yes I drink white, straight NOT from the fridge but the living room rack – its cold enough at the moment to chill my whites without a fridge! I do drink more red though at this time – but sometimes – heck – you just need a white man… savee?

  • TommyB

    I’m a London Geeeeeeezaaaaaarrrrr!!!!

  • TommyB

Hey – this is my comment ONU meylo!!

White Burgundy is best when its fresh, not trying to be too complex (normal stuff) and just a joy to drink with some nice fish and salad. My favs usually come from the Maconnais in Burgundy – keep it simple and affordable!

I enjoy white wine this time of year because they are so versatile with Christmas dinner such as turkey and stuffing. Riesling works really well with the stuffed bird!

Gary, I am glad you are back and I look forward to more great episodes!!

  • WineCutter

QOTD: Yes…I drink white wine this time of year. In fact, I find myself opening a bottle every now and then in February and March to remind me that the sun and warmth will return soon. Kind of like taking a quick trip to FLA for some winter sunshine without having to go through the airport security process!

But you’re gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed….”

  • Hey!!!

Love the brown bag episodes. They are my favourite on WLTV (3 guesses as to my least favourite).

QOTD: you bet your @$$! I can drink riesling any time of the year for any excuse.

why would i not drink white this time of year? ive never understood that “unwritten rule”. in fact, and according to my cellartracker account, the last four bottles that i have opened have all been white. 2009 Kongsgaard Viorous, 2004 Chรขteau d’Yquem, 2004 Au Bon Climat Hildegard (killer), and 2008 Aubert Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard which is maybe the best bottle of white i have had in the last year….hi…

    ps mark mcwilliams says hello…?

  • I’m never a white wine drinker until I had some of my girlfriends Dr. Becker Riesling last night. It was very interesting and tasted like pineapple?! Anyone else had this wine before?

  • Kmurph

As a former resident of the Commonwealth, I understand how painful it is when you can’t get wine shipments. Unfortunately, there’s a very strong lobby in Mass. to block retailers from out of state. Also, there are 2 different licenses for shipping- one for retailers and one for wineries. I believe Mass. opened up to direct winery to consumer (including some wine clubs), but as we’re a retailer, we have to stay with this license. Sorry about that, but the best thing to do is to lobby your local reps as you’re both a taxpayer and a voter!

  • Kmurph

    thanks!

  • QOTD. I’m definitely drinking white wine.

  • Randall

Getting dangerously close to mainstream with the Zimmerman, aren’t you?
    ๐Ÿ™‚

  • I’ve tasted great wine from Mexico in the $60/btl range. Have also had LA Cetto a few times. Decent, very inexpensive.

  • philoxera

    Hey

  • Been living in Maryland for the past 2 years and we are in the same boat…no wine shipping. ๐Ÿ™

  • Randall

…or vinho verde! Or pinot! Or…

    ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • I drink white year around…depending on what’s for dinner and I usually sip on a glass while fixing dinner.

  • ALLAN

    I don’t care anymore ;OP

    Cheers! who’s Zimmerman ? ? ?

    :)))))

  • ALLAN

Kmurph, I’m a fan of yours!

Keep on kicking GV in the balls….!! ๐Ÿ˜›

Hey! And YES! Whites, whites and more whites.

Thank you for reading and replying. I know that wine shipments to MA were impossible at all until very recently, and I believe that it is still not as clear cut as wineries vs retailers. Williams Sonoma (a retailer), offers a wine club that ships to MA as well as several others that are definitely not producers. Is it possible that Williams Sonoma can ship their wine club selection because they have a store in MA? Possible, but that could be a loophole for you: you can arrange a partnership with some store here and distribute wine to the whole new market, just like the WSJ wine club does. Also http://www.cawineclub.com ships wines to MA and they are not producers and they don’t have a store here. I think with some investigative work you can open a new market here. Believe me, people are lobbying for opening MA to outside wine world, but I think there are some things that can be done to work around the current rules and regulations. I can look into that more closely, but I think you should too, it may be to our mutual benefit!

  • What’s the “big cellar syndrome”?

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

You got that right, Pete. I did like Ryan’s post game attitude/interview.

  • Randall

Oh… just a little folk singer from Minnesota named Robert who “went electric” back in ’65…
Was so boring that his band was simply called the “Band”…
Nobody really. Just another unknown poet…

    :D!!

  • ALLAN

The Band’s “The Band” is the greatest LP of all time, to me. Real Music. Timeless. If anything was ever timeless. !

    Cheers Randall-O-Wich! ;P

    HEY! : )

Riesling = white wine = Happy!
The Auslese, Eiswein and BA Tasting last week was awesome.
The German Wine Society totally rocks!

  • John__J

Nice to have ya back Gary!

Qotd: I drink any kind of wine any time of the year

  • Anonymous

Hey GV! Felt like the cowboys’ loss to the vikings last playoff season… Here in Dallas I can drink white pretty much any time of year, no big deal. It got up to 80 a week or two ago!

  • K is for Kate

I was mostly into Riesling all Fall and it seems to me that I will continue to drink quite a bit of it into the Winter. The reds are definitely creeping back in now that it’s dropped below freezing, though.

  • Anonymous

Hey! I’m glad now that I didn’t have time to watch this yesterday…
QOTD: Yes. Depends more on mood and what the meal is than the weather.

A desert wine show would be good. I like me some ports, and do my part in making some ports too.

  • Randall

    *as alex trebec*
Ooh… sorry. We were looking for “Kinda Blue”.

    ;-}

Hey GV – that was a terrible loss by the Jets, pretty sad. Better to have a wake up call now rather than in the playoffs when there is less margin of error. If the Jets and Pats are to meet again, it would be nearly impossible to beat them three times in a year.

QOTD – sure, I like white whine whenever… all year long.
