it would be neat to see a double blind where the audience had to guess what you were tasting…..can enough detail be gleamed from tasting notes to give the audience an idea of what varietal/region the wine is? hmmmm……

everybody leaves a comment guessing the wines and the answers revealed the next day. yes….i like this idea….

QOTD…I have a small selection of Bordeaux wines. Most in the 7-15 euro ($10-$20) range. Most I haven’t tried yet. Many come from small European wine shops or right from the vineyards, so I’m not sure of the Stateside exposure.

Most are Bordeaux Superior and a couple Grand Cru quality. Some of them include Ch Haut Gay, Ch Timberlay, Ch Barrail Laussac and Ch La Fleur De Lescours.

  • I’m going blind! Love the blind tastings – so much drama. Looking for the La Clemence from Pomerol as we speak. (Google me this!)

QOTD ~ Have had a few, but the most recent at a tasting for work was the Christian Moueix 2005 Medoc ( I saw that Cork’d rated it 94 pts. I thought it was a terrific buy at $18 in our store. Lots of upfront dark fruit followed by firm tannins in the end – will buy some and hold a few years to see what develops! PS – tried the Christian Moueix 2005 St Emilion – it was far too acidic for me – needs more time in the bottle.

Well, I have from 2005; Cos d’Estournel, Ducru Beaucaillou, Vieux Chateau Certan and the red Pape Clement. These are all great wine but I personally prefer the great Bordeaux wines from the year 2003. Of course, the 2005s have often more acidity than the 2003s. But I prefer, for my palate, pure knockout wines!

Great episode, glad you finally got around to a blind tasting. Im excited for the future ( the ones I own ). I hope all the money you forced me to spend didnt go to waste! QOTD: 2 Cos d’ Estrounel, a Monbousquet, a D’ Issan, a Figeac, and a Reignac. More to come, too! Costco has some huge deals. I get lots of bottles from them that are like 30% cheaper than wine stores. So basically a $300 wine for $200. I also have some nice 05 Sauternes as well.
