EP 635 Carneros Wines Picked By A Facebook Fan

Yesterday Gary used Twitter and Facebook to send out a message to the fans of the show to pick the show for today, and one of the 200 recommendations was Cyrus’s idea to do Carneros. What is going on with the place that has such a wonderful reputation for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir?

Wines tasted in this episode:

2007 Rombauer Carneros ChardonnayNapa Chardonnay
2007 Neyers Chardonnay CarnerosNapa Chardonnay
2005 Castle Estate Pinot Noir Los CarnerosSonoma Pinot Noir

line of the day – ‘It’s got one dimension and that dimension is mah!’

I feel like Gary was right on point during this episode. Made me laugh out loud a couple of times (‘what have you got, I can juggle two corks’ etc) and evaluation of the wines seemed razor sharp. Who needs guests when you can be this entertaining on your own?

    Gary Vee,

QOTD: Somewhere in the 50-60 range, with nearly each one more sarcastic than the last…

P.S. LOVED today’s guest. Hope to see a LOT more of he or she or whatever…

Gary, you f’in rockin’ the shiz! Too bad Carneros didn’t show better as there are many a great wines made there. And, homie, no sparkling? You’ll just have to do another show all about Cali Sparkling…Hold on now, have you don’t that? Don’t think so! Make it happen!

    QOTD: at least 400

QOTD: I’ve been watching since episode 400-something. Therefore I have left over 200 comments. I am running a few days behind but I always leave a comment. I once got a wrist band for commenting. That was awesome. Thanks.

Recently I began working in a Wine & Spirits shop. I want to do cartwheels when a customer buys a 750ml bottle of wine. Too many boxes of wine are flying off the shelves. Also too many people buy pink zin in the 1.5 L bottles. At least they like wine but I wish they would expand their palates. Too each his own.

About 10 maybe…How terrible is it to have a stuffy nose and watch you smell and taste wine.

Nice show. Very informative. I have been watching since your were on Mad Money…and I’d say I’ve left around 30-40 comments.

Great show Gary. Not as familiar with Carneros as they often don’t make it across the pond. QOTD: I often leave comments but not as frequently as you deserve Gary.

QOTD: probably getting close to 100. I have to admit to some lurking here and there…

I want to congratulate Gary for his humble remarks while still bashing one of his best selling wines. Keep it up!
Also for making the point that while a wine may not be to your liking don’t assume all wines of that variety will be the same.

I have posted less times than I have watched. I needed to get familiar with things first. I will guess between 28 and 40. That’s a total guess. Maybe Mott knows for sure?

  • Great show, Gary!

I think I have only left about 5 comments, but I am now committed to leaving one whenever I watch an episode.

Been watching you since last November, so I’ve been doing a lot of catch up.

I know I have purchased wine from the Carneros region before without knowing it, but given the price points on some of these, I might shy away from them. I’m always on the look out for a great under-$20.

    Thanks!

  • GV, you’re not overbearing in your interview style – in the immortal words of the great Billy Joel, “Don’t go changin'”!

The Butter Bandit – long time no see!

Like the reading of the comments at the beginning. Sorry you weren’t happy about the feel The Nation had (predominately) about your last guest, but we’ve been taught by you to keep it real. Monsieur Joly a few episodes back was “older-school” than Robert, but he rocked the house with his passion and his own style. Plus he was honest…

QOTD: Maybe a dozen or so? Doesn’t matter – you answered my question about your wrist watch, so I will lurk no more! 😉

GV – I have been watching the show for about 2.5 years. I comment on every episode that I watch, and I don not miss them, they stay on my e-mail until viewed. Therefore, I would have to say that I have left between 300-400 comments.

Never heard of Carneros ( of course 😐 ). Even though the wines didnt do too well its something to think about when Im at my wine shop in the future. Thanks for the love Gary. I’ll try to continue to be a loyal Vayniac in the future as well as now. QOTD: Ive seen every show, but didnt start commenting until I watched them on here….I watched a bunch on youtube. Id say ive left at least 350 comments, and def. have left a comment on every episode ive watched here.

Havent had an over the top buttered popcorn chard in a while. Have been steering away from them. I am going to get that rombauer just for that.
QOTD: no comments in 30 episodes over 2 months. 11 comments since. And I will leave one for every episode I watch here on out.

25:05, laugh in the background, caught me off guard watching late at night!

This is my first comment. I found out about WineLibraryTV while listening to the Windows Weekly podcast; Paul Thurrott gave a hearty recommendation. I eventually got around to watching the show…now I am obsessed. I am a pretty big noob when it comes to wine, but I think the art of wine-making and the art of wine-drinking are fascinating!

I got to this specific episode because I ordered two bottles of the Rom at a nice dinner, on the advice of my date. She had visited the winery. I actually thought it was pretty good. <A sign to keep drinking, I guess!!!

Had a 2008 Rombauer ($32.) with king crab yesterday, I really liked, so much that I was compelled to searched your site to see if you had reviewed it. I didn't know anything about it, a friend asked me to see if they had it at the market, I had no expectations. Amongst 2 other $12 bottles this stood out as a very good wine, but that is not a fair fight. Crazy apple oak butter action. For me the apple was as dominant as the butter. BTW, did some some tasting at Hanzell the other day, what a range within the chardonnay varietal.

I was pleasantly surprised to have a Napa Chardonnay that actually tasted like Chardonnay the other day while tasting at Signorello Estate Winery. It was made in the Burgundian style, 20% new FO (80% neutral) and 20% ML. Come to find out that Pierre Bierbant, Winemaker and Vineyard Manager (6th generation grapegrower and winemaker from France) hasn't made a wine that has scored lower than 89 points on any scale in the 12 years he's been at Signorello. He should be considered a super-star winemaker but unfortunately has not been given proper recognition by the Proprietor. Let's try and get this winemaker the credit he deserves.
